It is the social security administration. I refused to answer several calls so they contacted my attorney's office. They in turn contacted me and advised, I would be receiving another call and needed to cooperate. At that point I called 816-936-3000, but only got a recording stating they would call me again etc... I had received a letter from SSA in the mail before the phone calls began. The following week SSA called again asking personal questions. I cooperated, claim processed, no problems! Recently I contacted SSA through the 1-800 number to ask a question regarding something discussed during the call from the 816-936-3000 number and they were able to look in the record and retrieve the information I requested.

THIS NUMBER IS A SCAM  816-936-3000.  It is a SCAM!  the Social Security office would never call you on a Holiday weekend and "just to confirm who they are talking to" ask for your date of birth, full name and your SSN in full.
    • Caller: Social Security Office

It is a scam, they will not call you on a holiday weekend and ask for your personal info just to confirm who they are speaking to.

Received a call from this number. Did not answer because did not have a caller ID. I am confused about answer because of the messages. One says do not answer because it is a scam. Another says it is a legit call from Social Security. I do not like giving out personal information over the phone. I had other scammer have my personal information that I did not give them. I think they are getting it over the computer. Be careful.

this is legit.. I verified with my local SS office. they looked up my application and it had notes on there when this number called me and the reps name and when they are calling back next. .  the callback number that was  left was 877-772-4309.  the local office did say  its handled by the SSA office that takes care of internet applications.

i called the natl number and the rep didn't have much information  .. referred me to my local SS office. I called them and they had all the info. my application, when it was filed, that its being processed and YES  the KC MO SS office had called me at exactly the time they stated  816-936 3000  who called me and when they were calling me back,.  the callback # is a toll free  number 877-772-4309 .  The local office said the KC SS handles applications done over the internet.  so if you need to call your LOCAL SS office,. they have better information.

In the 21 hours since you last trolled...er, I mean posted about this, nobody has "spazzed" on the legitimacy of this number, but since you have decided to post again with a pointless link, consider the fact that scammers will routinely spoof the number of legitimate Companies and Organizations to trick people into a false sense of security.
Just because the number might be legitimate, doesn't mean the caller is!
For anyone wanting to know if they were in fact called by Social Security, heres their contact:

I received the same message.  I called the SS Administration and they had no record that anyone had attempted to call me.  I received the call twice and missed it both times.  When I called the number back it gave the message you received that it was from the SS Administration from Kansas City, MO

Turning 65 early next year and I've been inundated with calls from quite a few Medicare providers. I applied for Medicare/SS online 11 days ago. Received two calls from this number. Being VERY skeptical, I didn't answer. Checked the number that called 816-936-3000 and the number they left in their voice mail (877-772-4309) here and elsewhere online. Some say scam while others say it's legit. I returned the call to the number they left, dialed the extension and got the persons voice mail. When they call back and before giving them any information, I will ask if they can tell me the confirmation number I received when filing my application online. Hopefully the person that called will have this number.

I have a hard time picking up phone numbers that do not have a caller ID. This was a legit call from MO Social Security. If I had known I would have picked-up the phone call.
