Go ahead answer the ph. It is SS they wanted to verify information I had already given to them in my application. I only had to listen and answer yes to verify. They did not ask me to provide any further information.

Number called and I didn't answer, as I generally do not answer numbers I don't know and instead Google them when I'm done, so if they turn out to be telemarketers or whoever I can block them. Google led me here, and after reading a few pages of comments I decided to call the number back. It rang, and then I received an automated message that I had reached the Social Security office and the person who called me would call me back.

Luckily I had listed my roommate on my disability application when I applied, so when they couldn't reach me (and couldn't leave a voice mail because I don't have one set up) they called my roommate who did answer and gave me the number and extension to call the person helping me file my claim. So yes, if they leave you a message asking you to call back at a different number I wouldn't be surprised if it's not this one and starts with 877 instead.

I called the 877 number, confirmed that they had tried to reach me through a local 816 number, and went from there. If you've filed for disability recently please answer the phone when these guys pick up, it really is Social Security. If you haven't make sure they aren't trying to call you on behalf of someone else who may have listed you as their contact and have the correct number. I'm usually pretty skeptical of numbers I don't know/aren't programmed into my phone, but this one is legit.

The ones who process internet claims are often open on Saturdays (and sometimes Sundays as well). This number is not from a local Social Security office, but from the Workload Support Unit, a regional office that isn't open to the public. They are routinely open on weekends, as overtime is offered and many take the opportunity to work overtime.

This is a confirmed legitimate number for KC Social Security. If you feel uneasy, you can always ask for their extension, and then call them back at their toll-free number (877-772-4309) and type in the extension number.

We DO call people to discuss their cases.  When we call, we have to verify the individual's information before we can discuss personal information.  We WILL ask for the SSN, name, etc.  If you hang up on the SSA individual, it will delay processing of your case.  Also, we DO work on Saturdays and Sundays.  Get real, people.

So, why did you look up your work number? You clearly know to whom it belongs.
    Personally, I think you're a shill.

Received call from this number.  Person left voicemail stating they needed to verify contact information about my disability claim. I called this number and got the same recorded message as others received...."no further action required, someone tried to reach you and will try again".  This is odd as I spoke with my local SS office earlier that day, they already had ALL my information, I am just waiting for my claim to be processed.  Why would this SS office need my information when it is already in their computer system???
