Why would a Missouri social security call me? I'm from IOWA. I'm also not yet 18 so they would have called my parents if they really were real.

This is a legitimate number. If you file for retirement or disability online the Kcmo office will receive your application.

    What
I live in Texas and this number has called me repeatedly from Missouri. Whenever I deal with ss it's always from my local office and they always leave a voicemail if I cannot be reached. This number never does. I believe it's a SCAM!

    Legitimate Number for SSA
While due diligence is a great idea, and recommended by SSA, spreading false information, such as "this is a scam" when you are not 100% sure just hurts people who are trying to ascertain if they should provide the information necessary to complete the processing of their application, or respond to inquiries that, left unanswered, could suspend benefit payments. This is an outgoing number for SSA. Yes-- it is a KC, MO phone number attached to the Richard Bolling Federal Building (which houses a large number of SSA employees), and yes, they handle claims from all over the United States. Contrary to popular belief, SSA does not notate your record every single time you call, or every single time they call you, so it is very likely that calling back will yield an answer that no one is trying to reach you. SSA does indeed ask for personal information on outgoing calls, to verify that they are speaking to the correct person and not violating any privacy laws. If you're uncomfortable with these facts, and in this era of fraud and security risk that is understandable, then simply give up the convenience of doing your business online and by phone and conduct your business in-person-- telling others, falsely, that this is undoubtedly a scam does them a great disservice and creates more work for SSA employees. I assure you-- you can conduct business with this phone number with zero risk.

This is false. I am a disability attorney, and know it's nonsense. SSA calls people ALL THE TIME for PERC appointments and additional information in calls from initial applications appointments to DDS processing to any number of other matters that come up during a case, particularly if a person is not represented. Don't give out false information.

The caller is NOT SSA.  The scammers have spoofed their telephone electronic info so caller ID broadcasts the SSA number instead of the real number.  Stop believing that your caller ID display is giving you the real number, because it is NOT.

This is an obvious scam and I suspect that you are part of it.   Some sort of white collar gang going around cold calling people and   fishing for information  pretending to be working for SS.

You're playing a dangerous game.  You and your crew are riding for a fall.  The Feds will nail your rear-ends up against the barnyard door.  You know that don't you?

The US attorney for the Western District of Missouri has prosecuted people for fraud connected with social security.  Are you aware of that?

In any event you ought to google this number out. For example, see:  https://www.callercenter.com/816-936-3000.html

Kansas City office of SS does not recognize this number.

Fact is, you're  like a lot of these white collar number scammers.  You follow a pattern.

    1.  Tell everyone how valid the number is
    2.   Then tell a ghost story.
    3.   Repeat the assertion that this number is just fine and you should answer it.

This scam is similar to the one where scammers pretend to be with financial institutions and start asking for information.

    You're fooling no one here.

Received call & cell message stating she was calling for Social Security wanted me to call back. SSA does not call. They send letters. Thanks to all of you complaining--made my decision to block valid. Spoofing numbers-- same thing happened with toll-free number for Pacific Gas & Electric in CA. Their website now has warning about scams using their number.

I got a call from 816-936-3053 and they left a message regarding Medicare.  I called SSA 800-772-1213 and asked if they knew who it was, and they said they did not recognize the number and did not have any record or anyone trying to call me for anything.  They did confirm the name that the caller left, but that means nothing (as you can see by the name on my post).

Called on a Sunday morning at 10:30 AM. Seems odd they would call on a Sunday morning. Said his name was Ron Sims and they would be working all day today. Sounded like he didn't have all his ducks in a row.

To help people out. I received a LETTER with this phone number on it. It IS from the SSDI imediate processing department. The letter asked if I had purchased any impairment related equipment to help do my job and that they needed a complete medical release form so THEY could contact my doctors. Scammers can spoof phone #s so my opinion is if you didn't receive a letter asking YOU to contact them be leery. If you got a letter and calling just confirm the personal info they have and only provide what was asked of you on the letter. I live in Iowa.
