This guy, named Mr. Matthews, keeps calling our office to speak with one of our workers.  The phone number cuts in and out but he insists on leaving a message for them to call him.  Our employee says that this is a FRAUD and they have already turned it in to the Fraud investigation, but they continue to call.

I keep getting the same guy!!  What a scam.

i got a call at my job and then they started calling my phone saying i had a payday loan lawsuit and my attorney need to call and he spoke broken english but said his name was mr. thomas smith. I kept sending him to voicemail and he just keeps calling just started today. Never had a payday loan so confused as to who they are but definetly a scam.

If you are targeted by these criminals, be sure to report them to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (most of which you can do online or over the phone):
1.    The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.
2.    Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone. And if the crooks claim to be law enforcement or lawyers, officers of the court or bankers, be sure to include that information in your report.
3.    File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.
4.    File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.wvago.gov
5.    File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en
If these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)

Scam alert: Bogus debt collectors

This scam isn't technically about credit cards, but it is scary enough to post a warning. The Better Business Bureau issued an alert today saying consumers across the country are getting phone calls from bogus debt collectors claiming default on a payday loan. Of course, the consumer needs to pay a large fee to avoid arrest -- as much as $1,000.
The caller poses as a lawyer, and may threaten extradition to face trial if the consumer doesn't pay up immediately.
What makes these calls alarming -- and perhaps convincing -- is that the perpetrators reference the consumer's personal information, such as the person's Social Security number, driver's license number, previous bank account numbers, home address -- even personal references.
"The amount of information they have is really troubling," says BBB spokeswoman Alison Southwick. She adds that the amount of data points to a possible security breach.
Spread the word to your friends and family: Don't give out personal or financial information to an unknown caller. Scammers can spoof Caller ID to display different numbers, so trust your instincts over technology.
The BBB offers these tips:
•    Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt.
•    Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call.
•    File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws or the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
•    File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau online if you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you.

I have received numerous calls from this number.  I was unable to understand the message left on my voice mail as the lady who called spoke very poor English.  I then received a call at work and our secretary took a message.  I then called the number back.  The person on the other end said that she was working for US legal and US legal was representing representing Cash Advance USA.  She said that if I did not pay back a loan that had been given to me through an online loan service that I would be taken to court.  I told her that I had not taken out a loan with this company and that I would dispute any such action taken against me. She said that I would be receiving paper work in the mail.  Also the lady making the call said that her name was Nancy Smith.

Received a phone call from Alex Johnson; has a Middle Eastern accent.  then spoke with Michael Anderson.  Both insisted there is an affidavit being filed against me regarding a cash advance done in December 2009.  All my cash advances have been satisfied or arrangements have been made.  He wanted my attorney's name and number; I gave him phone number to local Better Business Bureau.

I receive such phone calls about every 3 months.  Obviously these scam artists have access to payday loan applications.  There goal is to get you to send them money.  Please be aware of this game.

Got a call from Tamila saying she was from US Legal Affidavit Service and that this is a serious matter. Here's the deal people, these people are a fraud. After I informed this young lady that I am a criminal attorney and have been practicing law for close to 15 years and I would love for her to take my fax number and fax me any documentation that she has regarding this bogus debt and I would gladly bury her and her cronies in a United States Federal courtroom. Ms. Tamila hung up. Please dont be fooled by these tricksters, they are pathetic!

The scammers almost always call consumers at work several times a day, and tell their supervisors, “Your employee has committed fraud and is about to be arrested.” Such threats have proven unsettling even to the most savvy consumers and employers who suspect the calls are fraudulent.

They just calle me I had there script memorized. I have reported them to the attorney general once I will report them again. Her name was Ruby this time...

I am reporting them now. but I need an address... do you know what it is? When they called they said they are from California?

Mr Matthew called and left a message at my work on the main switchboard, i called him back and he read a long list of items that i am being charged with including internet fraud, bank fraud and money was deposited into my bank account  they are from a place called usa legal advocate services of Los Angeles and did i want to take care of the debt or should they proceed with the legal action.

I have been getting calls from a gentleman named Alex Johnson at my work. I have refused to answer the call let alone return one. His english is so bad and broken that you have to listen to the message quite a few times. I have been deleting the messages. He has also been calling my home number as well. This has gotten annoying and it needs to stop. I am not sure of how I can get him to stop calling my work.

Another harrassing phone call again today. These people are relentless. They are calling my work and my home. I am so sick and tired of these people calling. I believe these are the same people who called last year stating something about a claim of fraud from my bank and they wanted to assist with my claim. Be careful they are supporting terrorism.

Wished I would've used my brain before now they conned me out of 272. and are still trying to get more today. LoL they call 10 or more times. I finally called them and told them that I knew where they were and I was reporting them to the Bureau the man thats names was supposed to be Michael Anderson and Alex Johnson start calling me stupid b******, and telling me to suck they d***.

This guy clamming to be officer "Alex Williams" kept calling me. I ignored him until he left a call back number. He is clearly from some other country and has no idea of how our legal system works. He also claimed to be in Texas but couldn't remember the name of his city, then he claimed to be a lawyer. All of this in the same phone call. So their scam wasn't working because no one could call them back. So they went through a tone of trouble to set up a number you can call them back at. It is very costly to them so I make sure I call it once a day and tell them something offensive. I feel that you should do the same! Here it is 512-354-8973. If they want to scam people cost them money!

I had this lawer call me saying that I OWE payday loan of 413.22 and i do not pay this amount that i will be sued for over $5000 and that have to come CAL. to court. this lawer name is brian john and his from glendale cal.the he call me is 818-638-7269. now he threating to freeze my bank acount. This lawer has broken english and this lawer is trying to get money from my pay checks.

They call all the time and claim they are going to issue a warrant for my arrest if i don't pay.
