- WatchingJust checked Amazon. The cd album was # 51,000+. No money being made there. The DVD is listed as being released August 26. There were plenty of reviews for it, primarily by people who had not posted reviews for anything else not Legends of Oz related. My conclusion is that time would have been better spent marketing the film in other ways. I loved how all the reviews point out how family oriented the film is and perfect for kids. As a side note, I was reading the reviews of the cd and a woman reviewed it who had reviewed other things, such as a sex book that would make her marriage more healthy, a push up bra, and a Legends of Oz Dorothy doll her 3 year old son liked to carry around. Because he loves Lea Michelle's voice. Now that review sounded like it was by a real person and not part of a Marketing team.

- Curious| 5 repliesWe are at the point now in which we can safely calculate the weight of individuals posts here. There were many that posted warnings and there were those that were overly optimistic. For those optimistic individuals one can only wonder what disbelief they must feel now. What is it like to lose one's savings or 401K/ IRA? How does it feel each year that you are charged fees for a worthless investment? Those fees will probably continue for another 10 years or more. You'll just keep paying fees for a worthless investment.
- Relieved replies to Curious| 4 repliesI am relieved to say I did not invest my retirement money in this travesty but my heart goes out to those who did. I am documenting the failure of this film and franchise to take the capital write-off for the Alpine stock I bought when I do my 2014 tax return. For those people that did invest via retirement funds and are now being charged annual fees by the investment firm, they should seek each other out and get a class action legal case going. It is unthinkable that they would still be paying fees for investments that have failed.
All the principals in this venture deserve the bad press, bad feelings and bad reputations they seem to be getting. - Curiuos replies to Relieved| 3 repliesHow does that work with Alpine Stock? why can't they just close that down and list it bankrupt so it will over.
- Relieved replies to Curiuos| 2 repliesIt would be desirable for Summertime (formerly Alpine et al) to do that, but we all know they will not devalue their own stock, even though it has never been listed publicly. From a tax perspective, to take a capital write-off when the filer lists stock as worthless, the filer has to be able to support that it is worthless to the IRS' satisfaction. I would say buying stock ten years ago from a company that has not paid a penny in dividends on the shares, has released via its various LLC's films that have been money losers, and has countless legal cases against it in many states for money raising tactics that are not sanctioned in these states (including the very state it resides in) provides more than enough documentation. Pile on that Dorothy of OZ LLC articles detailing how investors are using the terms they are using to describe the organization and its personnel and I am confident an examiner would approve the write-off. In doing my due diligence I spoke to a U.S. Treasury employee who told me what to provide. I am not giving advice here; I am merely stating what I plan to do so I can put this whole sordid chapter behind me.
- curious replies to Relieved| 1 replyThank you for the valuable information. I have 10,000 shares of Alpine. Can I take a $10,000 write off? Also on the OZ et el fiasco. shares were a $1.00 and then re-valued at $3.00 I believe. That would seem to create more than a few problems. IRA accounts with a trust custodian will need to re-evaluate the stock valuation. sounds pretty messy.
- Relieved replies to curiousI believe if you are going to take the write-off of Alpine shares, the amount you paid for them is what you write-off. IF you did pay $10,000, or $1 per share, then you would list it as such. Make sure you know what you are doing with this-I would recommend you consult a good Tax Preparer when the time comes.
How did people invest in Oz? Did they invest in the LLC or did they buy shares of stock? Are you getting a K-1 each year? If so, that tells me you invested in the company's project-i.e. you contributed money expecting a return rather than just buying shares of stock. I can't believe people have no recourse if they rolled IRA money over. Is the investment firm treating it as a retirement account? If so, you should be able to role it out rather than watch its value diminish each year due to fees. - Checking In replies to LurkerHow is it going so far?
- Franchise replies to Toy guyHow is the Mega-Franchise working out for you now? I say invest $500K in picture #2.
- doubters replies to FubsYep. you sure proved those doubters wrong.
- Review replies to Toy GuyThank you for the splendid review. The movie really made a splash
- You Tube| 11 repliesIt is a You Tube Video knucklehead. You should have been this cautious with your investment!!
I really wonder what all the HAPPY supporters of the GIGANTIC world franchise that Neil, Greg & Ryan sold you as an investment. Lucky for 401K/ IRA that you will get to lose yet another $2000 is upcoming fees and hassles with your tax returns for years to come.
Lets hear ab big Hurrah for those hard working souls in south florida. - Glorious replies to You Tube| 10 repliesAnd Happy Thanksgiving to you. Speaking only for myself, I did not lose all that much so I am quite well, blessed and thankful. One of the things I am thankful for is I try never to hurt others in any way, be it in life or on a board like this. Be well.
- Glorious replies to Glorious| 9 repliesIt is wonderful that you only lost a "little" but is that really the point? Since you are such a giving person I know some wonderful children going without gifts this christmas. Since money is no object to you can I put you down for a $50K contribution? Its tax deductible.
Make-a-Wish Foundation
The Make-a-Wish Foundation is the world’s largest wish-granting organization. In 2007, they granted wishes to 13,006 children suffering from life-threatening medical conditions. Since its beginning in 1980, this organization has granted more than 165,000 wishes. From an afternoon spent as a police officer or fire fighter to a visit to Disney World, the 25,000 volunteers who are part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation give ill children their greatest wishes.
To learn how you can donate to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, visit www.wish.org. - Glorious replies to Glorious| 8 repliesWhat exactly is your point? That someone keeping a positive perspective in life while losing money is somehow wrong? I already tithe and give to many worthy charities thank you very much, including being a Save the Children sponsor for almost 20 years. But do feel free to make a donation to Make- A-Wish, itself being a fine organization. Don't be so sour on someone trying to be peaceful rather than in a state of constant anger.
To be on topic, I hope anyone thinking of investing with the producers has found this board in doing their own research and that we have written enough to warn others before losing their hard earned money. - unglorious replies to Glorious| 7 repliesWhat is sad is that I am 100% sure that that group is still doing the same thing today. Someone somewhere is receiving a call about an amazing investment opportunity. someone somewhere is unknowingly going to write a check or transfer their 401K to these guys and lose their money. It appears to be a 20 year cycle of fraud and deception. There simply comes a point when people need to stand together and say enough.
Where are the financials and where are the payments. The movie did earn some money. How much is ours?
I did not receive a quarterly report with financials. what happened? - Who Knows replies to ungloriousMaybe you should call the lawyer who invited everyone here to contact him. He was earlier in the thread. He came in huffing and puffing about things being posted and then when another guy called him out on it poof! he was gone.
