It is Performa Recovery.  If you have a past debt to the IRS, this is the collection company they use.  Its legit.

This is Performa Recovery.  They are the collection agency used by the IRS if you have a past due tax bill.

Right. Sure. Tell us another one, Shill. Oh, and tell us why you looked the number up when you clearly know to whom it belongs.

I am not saying it is legit or not, but I in fact do have an outstanding debt with the IRS and they are calling me frequently. I will continue to ditch them just like my outstanding tax bill. I'm dying soon anyway so I could give a single flying fudge about it. They never leave a message.

The IRS has started using outside agencies for collection purposes.

    https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-business ... debt-collection

The IRS will send out a series of several letters prior to outsourcing your debt to a private agency. If contacted by one of these collection agencies, the taxpayer would have been notified over the course of several months if not years of the balance(s) due.

**Please due your homework before giving out any personal information over the phone. The IRS and/or the Collection Agencies will never request your banking or credit card information over the phone**

I got three calls from this number. Each time "Amy" let me know she was a representative from Performant Recovery, Inc. working on behalf of the IRS. She then asked me to verify my address. I did not and ended the call.

    1. I didn't give personal information
    2. I went to the IRS website and found the list of third-party collectors: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-business ... debt-collection
    3. I called Performant directly using the number on the IRS website and asked for a representative to verify "Amy" worked for their company.
    4. Performant verified that she was an employee and offered me to transfer.
    5. I asked them to verify that the person they were calling was infact "me". Turns out our birthday year was not the same, they have been calling me in error.
    6. Performant rep added a note on my Name/Number that they had an error in their data and to stop calling me.

Don't give out personal information over the phone when someone calls you. Do the due-diligence of checking it out yourself.

    Stay safe out there.

Exactly.  If you do owe a tax bill, no matter if the IRS is outsourcing collections or not, they will ALWAYS send you several letters via USPS snail mail first!

The IRS (as of late last year) did contract with a third party collector but I don't know their name.  It is legit....https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/private-collecti ... -most-tax-debts

They do send mail. If you owe and have not received mail update your address using form 8822 change of address on the ww.irs.gov website that’s what they told me. They also said I can go on irs.gov and see they are one of four agencies contracted by the irs.

It's Proformant Recovery, which is apparently an IRS collection agency. They call us repeatedly, so we've put them on 'ignore'. The reason I know they a arer not legit is that we have no debt with either our personal or business taxes.

What if they are collecting for a different debt?  None of those agencies collects strictly for the IRS.

You can go to the IRS website and it list all of the collection vendors they use . So anyone calling can say they are from performance They have called me several times . You also can go on IRS website and check you returns for the last 7 years and it will show if you have a tax bill
