- J. G. replies to anonymousDon't just click the first link. Do a little more looking and you will see the number is tied to a Chicagossuburban based JP Morgan chase branch.
- BR| 1 replyJust got a call from this number and no message on answering machine. Since the majority says it could be from Chase, I checked my 2 accts with them online, nothing wrong there so far, will keep an eye on it for sure just in case. I did make a charge on my credit card the other day, first one in a long time but not for very much, so it wouldn't alert anything at Chase. Sure glad this 800 notes site is around to find out what are scams and what are not.
- TG replies to BRI received 3 calls from this number today. They did not leave a message so I called them back. They could not identify me by the same number they was calling so I called the number on the back of my bank card and got the number to the fraud department and explained what happened, they thank me for reporting this number 847 488-6000.
- Jenfid| 1 replyI've gotten a call twice, once from this # and also from 847-783-7066, both claiming to be from Chase Fraud center. They leave a case #. While I do have a chase card, the only issue I had was a fraudulent charge back in March which I handled in April and was refunded on my May statement. No other charges besides my monthly things like Tivo, etc.
Considering I pay my bill on time every month (so why would it be debt collection??) and based on the comments here I'm not going to be calling them back...I also instructed Chase to contact me via their message center on their website which they have done in the past regarding important issues. Why would they suddenly be calling me?- Caller: Chase?
- Jenfid replies to JenfidOK, so funnily enough about an hour after I posted this I did get an e-mail from Chase titled "Chase Fraud Alert" requesting I call them at *this* # 800-772-9261 which takes you directly to their fraud division and is a legit #.
Basically the lady told me my CC # had shown up on a report that it had been found by police in some crime - like a hacker who had a list of credit cards they'd stolen from a company, etc, which is why they call to check and see if you've had any odd charges. I didn't have anything recent but I did have that fraudulent charge back in March. So they reissued me a new card and shut down this one, sending it for free overnight. She was also able to transfer me to regular CSR for some unfraud related questions I had.
Seems to be legit. Glad they emailed me. - mashdemdubsit is chase. they did leave a message. it sounded more like a solicitation. in the message they said they had some great offers for me that i might be interested in. sounds like they were trying to sell fraud protection. the only chase card i have is best buy card and it can't be used anymore. so i know there could not have been any fraud related to this card.
- EAIt's legit. part of Chase bank, Fraud Detection dept. The called asked me to call the number on the back of my Chase credit card to verify and it did. Perhaps the same number is used for different purposes; fraud prevention and detention, solicitation, etc.

- nayIt really is Chase's Fraud department. I didn't answer when they called because I didn't know the number. They left a message stating there appeared to be irregular activity on my card today (said where the card was from and gave the last four digits - asked me to call the number on the back of my card and speak to a representative).
I followed directions and called the # on the back of my card. They were concerned because the guy at the service station kept running my card and deleting the charge (he was messing up and ran it like three times). I confirmed it was me with the card and not theft.
I honestly think its a lot better than my Bank of America fraud department who will shut down my card and not call me if I decide to spend $200 at walmart (each and every time....what a huge pain and embarassment at the register as everyone waits while I have to beg BOA to let me have access to MY money that I earned).
I'm not sure why people are saying this is a scam. It is NOT. HOWEVER, if they call you directly and ask for any personal information, I would always be on the safe side and tell them you'll contact them right back via the # on your credit/bank card. That way you know with whom you are speaking and there is no fear of spoofed numbers.- Caller: Chase Fraud Department
- ckCalled on DO NOT CALL cell phone# left no message.
- pzzytatThis is ARS collections...they use several numbers and skip tracers and illegal methods to chase down debts...they have called 3 times in the last hour!! Do NOT ANSWER!! (and YES! the caller ID did say "Chase" but I don't do business in any way with Chase, so they'd have no reason to call me!)

- NikkiChase replies to MohI hope someone from Chase is monitoring this thread. I don't answer or return toll-free calls and if I lose my credit card, I will immediately call the issuer. I am in the midst of relocating, so I am subject to a lot of these types of calls from several financial institutions. I appreciate the fraud prevention efforts, but please give your card holders some credit for reaching out if we lose the card. Thank you, NikkiChase
- TAnnonymousThey did not leave a message, I called the # back it answered "Chase USA" which is not the same as Chase JP Morgan :)
- kqi don't know if this number or the number they told me to call is legit, but i called the number for chase on my card and explained that i got this call from a random number claiming there were fraudulent charges on my card. they looked into it and then confirmed that they were trying to contact me. when in doubt, always call the number on your card.
- Just A Guy replies to SB| 1 replyOk, if this is "legit" like you say it is, why are they calling me? I don't have a Chase card, and I have NEVER had a Chase card, and I have never had an account with ANY Chase bank -- ANYWHERE.
- Just A Guy replies to RoeI've never had a Chase card. Why would they be calling me about fraudulent charges when I DON'T HAVE A CHASE CARD, AND NEVER HAVE?
- Sir Bedevere replies to Just A GuyHere's the story: 847-488-6000 is apparently a legit Chase phone number. So CRIMINALS forge their Caller ID to show you this number when they call, hoping you'll fall for it. That's why there are people in this thread saying "it's legit" and others saying "it's a scam". They're both right.
- Just a Guy replies to J. G.You Lie.
I have NEVER done business with Chase -- in any form or fashion. I don't possess ANY store cards, gas cards, or anything like that. In fact, I don't possess credit cards.
So explain to me again why they'd be calling me? - just neJust got a call from this number and it sounded flakey, so i hung up. I had answered because i was expecting a call from chase. Called chase using the number on the back of my card. they transferred me to the fraud department, which confirmed there are scumbags "spoofing" their number. It is a valid number, but if you get a call and you are in the least bit suspicious, hang up and call chase using the number on your card or your bill (not one on the internet which can be spoofed also). If they really are looking for you they will tell you so, and why they wanted to contact you.
- Caller: chase bank sometimes
- It is ChaseThe caller is Chase. However, it is true that they don't leave a message, which is kind of irksome. They also send an email to notify you that they tried to contact you but were unable to get ahold of you. It does not ask for any information, just gives you a number to contact their fraud prevention department as your card may have been used fraudulently. So, I guess the best way to see if it is legitimate is to check your email when you receive the phone call. Don't wait too long. I got the call on Saturday, but didn't check my email until Monday. Needless to say, the scumbags had charged up quite a bit. However, Chase does not hold you liable for any of them. It still sucks that they are still able to get away with it, though, because they are probably not going to get caught. By the way, I never use that card except for transactions such as plane tickets and Amazon purchases, neither of which I had purchased in months, so they got my information somehow online, probably through an Amazon seller, and somehow created a card because they used the card in person. So, watch out.
- Caller: Chase
- DonThis is the number for Chase Credit Card Fraud dept. They just called me to warn about recent activity on my credit card. A restaurant accidentally billed me twice but immediately refunded one of the charges and that sent a red flag to Chase to the Fraud Dept.
- Caller: JP Morgan / Chase
