- Not Chase replies to Moh| 5 repliesThis is a fraudulent call, they wanted my social and other information. Called Chase Bank and talked to the fraud department and found out this is not a Chase number.
- DiceyI got a call from 847-488-6000 today regarding suspicious transactions. They asked for zero personal information from me but were able to give me descriptions and dollar amounts of previous transactions - both retail and online. They offered to close my card and express mail me the new card at no charge to me.
I immediately called 1-800-436-7927, which is the posted contact number for Chase's credit card fraud dept. I made that call from a different phone number, and when I went through the usual automated identification process, the automated system reported that my account had been closed and a new card was being mailed out, and gave me the expected delivery date provided in the initial call. I also then spoke with a representative who confirmed that the call was legit. The 847-488-6000 number is the trunk line for the office where they are located, in IL.
(As an aside: if you go to www.whitepages.com and do a reverse phone lookup, it will find (as of the time of this posting) 6 individuals with that phone number, identified by title and company, and you can use that to get more information from sites like LinkedIn - not definitive, certainly, but it lends more credence when there are multiple and independent sources of data.)
This thread has a wide range of responses, from those who believe the number is legit to those who believe it is a scam. My experience falls on the "legit" side of that argument. While there are times when trolls want to stir up trouble (and some of the less articulate posts fit that description rather neatly), I should point out that it's possible the number has been spoofed by scammers.
As has been stated repeatedly, when in doubt, **call your credit card company directly** and confirm that they contacted you. They may ask you for information to verify your identity, but if you're calling from the phone number they have on file for you, that's probably the last 4 of your card number, the last 4 of your SSN, or the answer to a security question. Your credit card company's fraud department will not require you to give them your entire SSN or your card number, and they won't threaten you with a lawsuit if you ask them to stop calling you. In the end, you should independently verify the authenticity of the call with your credit card company - if it smells like a rat, err on the side of caution.- Caller: Chase Bank
- cwthis not chase i call them. they said they did not call. do not give them any imfo.

- JulieIt is a Chase number. I've been playing phone tag with a person in the executive offices at chase and this is the trunk line that comes up on my caller id.
- Caller: Chase (executive office/trunk line)
- SAMTHIS NUMBER DOES BELONG TO CHASE EXECUTIVE OFFICES....BUT JUST BE CAREFUL WHAT INFORMATION YOUR GIVING OUT.
- Caller: CHASE
- LizI believe it is also a legit number for Chase. I sent a letter to someone in their "Executive Offices" and this is the number that showed up on my caller id when they called me back. If it wasn't a legit number, than how could the woman I spoke to reverse a late fee that was on my account the same day I spoke to her??

- UnawareReceived a call on cellphone. Person identified as Patricia ... from Fraud Prevention, wanted to connect for a conference call regarding a fraudulent transaction with Chase.
Realized this might be a scam, hung up. Checked Internet and found this was indeed a scam. - Unaware847-488-600 called again. Ignored.
National Do Not Register Call did NOT prevent these scam-calls. - RobI followed the advice above and called the number on the back of my Chase card. Chase did want to talk to me regarding possible fraud activity on my account. It is likely this number is valid, but I would not respond to random calls like this and instead would use the contact information provided to you previously by the company. This is just a good practice. Although this time the number may be valid, the next time it may be a scam, so always use caution.

Had expected this call from CHASE after I had called the 800 number on the back of my card (in response to an automated call from 800-454-9078, CHASE Fraud Dept). As well as verifying a charge (which was legit also), they were verifying the correction of my date of birth in their records which was discovered to be in error when I had called them this morning.
Also offered to sign me up for free text alert messages to my cell phone for this card account.- Caller: CHASE Credit Card Services - Fraud Dept

Note the comments here about how it's a valid inquiry about a card application or fraudulent card charges. Then think: Why would someone bother to google this name or number if they had no problem with it. I received a number of these calls and didn't pick up. Finally, just to be safe, I called the number on my credit card. They weren't trying to contact me. The people leaving comments here that it's okay are part of the scam. DON'T FALL FOR IT!- Caller: Chase USA
- FRAUD replies to LouiseAlso keep in mind - at banks and other corporate institutions, access to Letter Head stationary is easily available. Getting letters requesting to call is not always a good way to settle any business. ONE should find the telephone number on his/her own - then call. DON'T rely on STATIONARY as being legal; it is possibly fraudulent! FIND THE NUMBER ON YOUR OWN INITIATIVE, irregardless of organization, then call to settle disputes or whatever.
- PSBGot a call on my work line. They left a message to call back at 888-813-7092 ext 6503. I called the rep did not answer and her voice mail said to leave my name number and account number. Felt it was a scam so gave no information. Left a message with work issued cell phone number for call back. They called back and said it was a mistake that they were looking for someone else. When they called back it came under number 847-488-6000
Sounds fishy to me. - JM replies to Louise| 6 repliesSCAM! SCAM! SCAM! This foreign-based Scam is hard to stop. But do not call them. The are criminals!!!! Avoid them like the plague they are. If you ignore them long enough, they will move on to someone more gullible. The astounding part is that they think people will believe that a corporation like Chase would use such low-class, illegal tactics to contact someone about their Chase card.
- Look Below the SurfaceIt's obvious to me that these scam artists have accessed some legitimate files. What they'd like more than anything in the world is for you to cancel your current card and get a "new one".
The people who contact Chase directly report that Chase is interested in the situation. I'll bet they are! Not only is this hacking costing them money, but it could also give them some very bad publicity. If they really care about the customer, you will see this topic mentioned on the company's web site with specifics on what you should or should do about it. I haven't been to their site, so I don't know what's there (or not there).
I'm not involved with Chase at all, but am familiar with another institution that experienced the exact same thing a couple years ago. If you feel like giving these strangers your personal information, you are either not very bright or are wealthy and very generous! - CarrieGot a call from this number this morning. Called the number on the back of my Chase credit card and was immediately directed to the fraud department. Chase had called from 847-488-6000 to verify a purchase from a different state as fraudulent.
