3 days in a row, from an Evete Evans from Johnson, Smith and Associates, pending legal case, they have been trying to contact me before filing papers but since I don't call back, leaves them no choice. If I want to handle please call before Thursday as this is time sensitive. Also leaves a case #. This person called me some months back as well, then stopped. This time the # came up no caller ID. But leaves a call back # of 855-693-3504. It's a crock of bull

They do, but the problem is they're invisible to the human eye. How'd that work if it was actually true? How many would actually be "served" if they knew in advance? It's a load of manure and an attempt to scare you out of money.~I Was Prepared~JustinCase

Did you not see the reply from JustinCase? I know his post was in a joking manner so let me clarify: No. No one ever calls in advance then shows up to serve papers. Real process servers don't call in advance because then you could simply avoid them. They also don't give you the option to pay your way out of being served.

I addressed that on the first page.  I think the words "extortion scam" should have given you a clue.  Further I supplied links to actual government agencies for you to use to educate yourself.  Of course, that would require you to take the time to read.

Website says they are in Massachusetts:  http://jsmithassociates.com/index.htm
Website was created in March of 2017 according to Whois.
The BBB has no page on them under that name
The address is a UPS store, but another criminal debt collector by the name of Receivable Management Corporation aka RMC is listed at that address with a “suite” number
They are not registered under that name with the Massachusetts Dept. of State or registered as a debt collection agency, which legally preclude them from doing business.

    Other complaints:
    https://www.avvo.com/legal-answers/contacted- ... 31-2391468.html

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Also file a complaint with the Massachusetts Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation:  http://www.mass.gov/ocabr/government/oca-agen ... -complaint.html

Same. Ed Logan of johnson Smith and Associates called to claim they were attempting to collect an old credit card debt for HSBC bank. I have never had an account with the bank, and the bank confirmed. They offered to stop with suing me if I paid the principle today. They had a fair amount of recent financial information on me that gave the call some level of legitimacy.

Guy named Michael Wilson called indicating they need to contact me to arrange for delivery of legal documents. Left a case number but seems sketchy. I owe no debt nor have I ever been in collections so this must be a scam.
