    Duh!!!
In Most states if you ask them to stop calling and they continue, you can tell them you will report them to the A.G.or the F.T.C.  for harassment.

They called my work cell phone 9 times last night (all through the night) and woke me up.  I have told them many times they have the wrong number as I have no idea who the person is they are trying to locate.  They tell me they'll take my number off their "list"... but then a month later they start calling again.......... over and over ... back to back calls and voice mails....  I may have to ask my work to change my number as they don't seem to know how to remove a wrong number.... OMG

I keep receiving email from Nelnet?? They are stating I went to college in Murray State University, I have never attended college in Murray State University which is located  in Kentucky. I don't  like being threatened about garnished wages, with holding my taxes or reduction in my social security benefits.

I am not receiving phone calls I'm receiving emails. Multiply e-mails

You need to file reports and complaints then! And perhaps the FBI will be interested in the emails since that is under internet crime reports

Please do file reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,FTC & FCC..

I looked in Netnet's email and their number is 888.486.4722. I am not sure who these people are leaving me a message to check my email, Facebook and email. When Nelnet leave me a message, they say who they are and also leave a person's name. I don't believe that is Nelnet calling me from that number. I think I better inform them about this number.

However, I did find a law firm online suing them in result of this google search.

If they leave messages for someone else, they have not violated the collection practices act, but they HAVE violated the Telecommunications act.  It's called Due Diligence - and they must perform sufficient due diligence to make certain they are calling the actual debtor and not calling innocents who never gave them permission to leave recordings on their phone.  Those recordings for someone else left on your voicemail call for a 500 buck fine per recording.  So just let them rack up a bunch ( I have 66 now) and call your lawyer.  He'll get a quick settlement and you'll be happy.  Don't feel bad, they're idiots who should pay - doing due diligence takes 30 seconds using any reverse directory or not designing your systems to ignore outgoing messages which can inform you of your error.  What they need is the plain old brains we used doing skip tracing for bail bondsmen.  Using plain old Google, I found their debtor in five minutes, his address, phone number, family, employment and latest pic.  You know, I'm sure Nelnet's contract with the Education Dept is contingent on obeying the law - maybe investors in other states should organize the complaints and use them to bite off a chunk of Nelnet's contract.

The other fun thing to do is a legal search for the attorney of the debtor they're calling you about.  When you find him, play him the recordings over the phone which violate his client's privacy because Nelnet did NOT do it's legally required Due Diligence.  That way you can collect for the telecommunications act violations and the debtor can collect for the collection act violations.

Received a call tonight from this number. Only left a message on my voicemail offering to extend the payment on a student loan. I'm not in college currently and when I was I did not have a student loan. They either have the wrong number or are attempting to scam.

Caller ID = TOLL FREE CALLER.  Definitely a debt collector, trying to recover a school loan debt from a grown up son who hasn't been in school in 10 years.  This toll free call was mixed in with a set of calls from 402-972-4665 and 303-696-5689, both with Caller ID = NELNET INC.  According to Wikipedia Nelnet is a "Nebraska-based lending conglomerate that deals in the administration and repayment of student loans."

The male caller spoke good American English and tried to leave a message on my answering machine, but I picked up the receiver and hung up.  He immediately redialed, at least a dozen times, presumably with an automatic dialer.  Every time I'd pick up and immediately hang up, then his dialer would immediately redial.  Anyway I finally picked up the receiver and left it on the table.  Every now and then you could hear the caller ask "Bill? "... "Bill?", my son's name.  All he could hear was the roar of a nearby fan, and maybe an occasional snicker from me.  Finally he hung up and I left the receiver off hook.   I've now blocked all 3 numbers.  The phone company will answer "Sorry this phone does not receive calls of this type."  Ain't technology grand.  :-)

IF you have recordings they've left - SAVE THEM !!!!!  They are different violations and if you have no business with Nelnet, they have no sovereign immunity.  A class action suit has just been filed in Arizona, jump aboard - remember, save those recordings!!!!
