I do have loans through Nelnet, but I received a text from this number telling me to reply YES with my address to postpone payments for 12 months.  I do not believe for an instant that this is actually Nelnet.  They do not communicate via text or request personal information be sent via text.

    Clever
At first, in the background I could hear "and we have a special offer for you", then the agent said, "well, uuuh..." and some supervisor said, "you have to wait after the recording". It's all going on the end of my answering machine greeting, which is designed to take control of the Cisco programmed robocaller, and sent my greeting to a live agent. They definitely made a TCPA land line phone violation, whether it's a telemarketer or a debt collector, because they did not identify the company calling, and an answering machine recording is a communication.

Shills are saying the FDCPA does not apply. Right. Stop reciting the FDCPA mantra. Unwarranted violation of consumer privacy is a violation of the TCPA.

    Yep, Crazycowboy, you're right!
Student loans are so expensive BECAUSE they have to pay debt collectors to collect on loans students cannot possibly pay directly out of college or maybe ever because of the penalties, interest, etc they tack on erroneously and at such ridiculous amounts.
I'm not into politics, but read up on Senator Elizabeth Warren's proposal to put a stop to the high costs of college and the tactics that are built within the whole scheme. I've seen her interviewed and she's onto them! Funny tho, she gets a lot of support because she's correct, yet the leg work needs to happen and that's slow going. Same old story.... the rich are making tons of money in the student loan scheme and to cut their paycheck is like pulling teeth from a dino!
    Enough said.

After reading the remarks here, This is an attempt to collect on a student loan debt.  As I never went to collage or went to a school where I needed a loan, and Have no children or other relatives that have need loans for school. Thus is harassment.

They won't stop calling me and I just don't answer. I figured if it is important they will leave me a voicemail but they never have. Assuming it's a scam.

This number called me today and the man that I spoke to said he was calling from Empire and they were collecting on behalf of cash call.  I don't owe cash call anything. He said there was a judgment and they would debit my checking accout in 2 days.  This is clearly a scam.

I have gotten calls from these jerks now and then.  From what I understand, they are an outfit that collects student debt.  No one lives here except me.  I had a student debt that I paid in full in the '70s.  That has been off the books since then.  I don't owe anyone a dime.  They are harassing me, and I expect what they are doing is illegal, despite Keygan's dishonest protests above.

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
    http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-an-atto ... tates_value=All

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I get calls like this all the time and if they are not in my phonebook I just let it ring and ring and ring and ignore them. I paid my student loans off years ago and not going to give them any assistance.
