ok...i was searching for a car online and came across a nice Acura TL on Craigslist.  it was a 2006 selling for $4800 with low miles...rediculous offer!  so after a couple of email exchanges he tells me he wants to use ebay as an "escrow" for the deal...sounds great.  then i start to think...better check out if ebay has an auto website...then he gave me a "case" # so i looked that up on ebay and didn't find it...then it asked to send info to fax and i got curious and started the search on the fax and came across this website.

so.....here is the email address of the guy doing this stuff on the internet

What do you guys think of this?

Hello and my apologizes for the delay,

First of all I would like to give you a complete description on my 2005 Nissan Altima SE-R.
The has about 35,643, 3.5L V6 MPI  6 Cylinder Gasoline, Transmission Manual, 2 wheel drive - front, Black Paint, VIN: 1N4BL11D55C953693, Super Clean, No DINGS, No Accidents, ALWAYS garage kept, service records up-to-date, lien has been paid off.
I want to be honest with you, the car is in perfect condition, but please expect some minor scratches and rock marks on the exterior. Because during normal usage of the vehicle on either the highway or city, this wear is unavoidable. The interior is impeccable and nobody smoked inside of it.
The car is registered in Florida and has a clear title. The price I am asking for it is $3,200. You can find the rest of the pictures at this web address: http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2010-2/1353707/2124853

I have no use for the car anyway, due to my job. The price is low because I must sell it fast.
It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident. I do have the title, clear, under my name.

Anonther Scam on Craig List I e-mail to get more information and I get the below.  I am glad I found this information on the scams.

    2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 ~~ - $3400 (city of s.diego)

    http://tinypic.com/useralbum.php?ua=Qn6I0SAQg ... e=1&sort=oldest

    Hey,
This 2004 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4x4 is in perfect working condition. Clear Title. My husband was recently promoted so we had to move in Ashland, Nebraska. We brought the car with us, but my husband received a new car from the company. Besides, there are a lot of things which have priority now, so, this car has to go. As you probably noticed, the price is rather low $3,400 for you if you will buy it today or tomorrow. Due to the fact I am very busy with my work and I don't stay too much at home, the car is already to the shipping company and will be delivered from there very fast. If you are interested, please email me with your details (Name and Address), for the shipping process.
    Mileage: 69.000

    My best wishes!

And the good Sgt strikes again...  Yes if it sounds too good it probably is, not to mention several red flags in the grammar usage.  Here's my reply from the 'seller' today:

Hello and sorry for the delay,

My experienced tech has fully checked out the car and gives it a special high rating has a CLEAR and CLEAN TITLE, a great history and mechanically without any problems ever, safety check and pre-delivery inspection along with a fresh servicing before I ship or deliver the car.

As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal closed only through eBay's Buyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected. You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTER you receive the car and you inspect it(for 10 days) eBay will release the payment to me; in this way we are both protected. Anyway i am sure that if you will don`t be satisfied about the car i will surely find another buyer in your area and there will be no need for you to ship the car back.
I am located in London,United Kingdom and I was sent here to improve the military relationships between USA and United Kingdom. One months ago, my wife moved here with me and brought the car with her, but now we have to sell it back in the United States because we can't register it here; it has US specs and everything, and registering it here in Europe will take for ever. My final price on it is US 2,970 $. If you will take it for this price, I am willing to handle the shipping. It will be shipped from here by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place. You will receive the car in about 3 days. Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and address where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.
    Best Regards,

Staff Sgt Bailey Bishop is now in Alaska... oopsss  he mysteriously got transferred to Spain!!  but he did send me his physical address, I guess he lives at the interection of Barnes and Noble and Outback Steakhouse in Anchorage.  Ebay confirmed that this was a scam. Using Western Union and Ebay Auto Agent.   This really angers me to have a guy (gal) like this scamming honest hardworking people.  I reported him to Ebay, looking into the Attorney General avenues... other than that, dont know what to do.

I'm so glad I GOOGLED eBay Buyer Protection Program because the scam part and the part about Craigslist all came up in my search, which landed me here to this site. My really good friend said the same thing - it's all a scam! So glad I found these responses.  If it looks to good to be true it probably is.   I so glad I never trusted his guy that goes by apparently several different names and probably is not even in the air force.   He should really use some more convincing amounts.  A 2001 wrangler for 3,620.... really come on.  Like another person that posted the listing appeared on craiglist and under a chicago listed which I though was strange when he responded back to me saying he was in Alaska and wanted to pay for the shipping...please.  There are so many crooks out there hope I can help out other that may be interesting in the vehicle scam.  This is what he responded to me WATCH OUT!!!!

I too just saw this same scam on Craigs List in Vermont.  Here are the two emails I received.

    from: Steven59Davis@aol.com

    "Hello,

My car (2004 BMW 325 CI) it's in perfect condition, it has only 56919 miles, it's almost brand new, never accidented, no scratches, no dents or hidden defects...it's just the way it looks it is.
The price is $5800 if you buy it now. It has also a clear title. the car will come with all the paper works.

First of all I want to tell you that I am in Anchorage, AK. I am selling the car for such a low price because my squadron has been sent back to Afghanistan and I don't want it to get old in my garage. The price is low because I need to sell it before April 05th...
I will handle with the shipping everywhere in USA and I will cover the shipping fees too. The car will be shipped in a crate container directly to your home address in maximum 3-5 days.

I am a member of eBay Vehicle Purchase Program and we will use this program in our transaction.
I will wait your email if you are interested in purchasing it...

    Thank you,
    Steven"
    ______________________________________________________________________________________

"As you can read in my first email, it is located in Anchorage, AK and I will cover the shipping fees.
The Shipping company will shipp it at your home address.

In order to notify eBay I will need buyer's full name, phone # and shipping address so I can open a transaction case and they will contact you for further details and instructions. I want a safe deal and I want to end this transaction with eBay's buyer protection program.

    How it works:
You make the payment to eBay safe account.
After they check the payment they announce me to start the shipping.
After you will receive the product and see that is ok, you have
to announce them that you have it. Only then, they will send me the money.
If you are not satisfied with it, I will have it shipped back to me on my cost and you will get 100% refund from eBay.

Hope to hear from you soon..."

I found this posting on craigslist.com as well for a 2006 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer by a SSgt Frank Thomson for $3400 stationed in the United Kingdom. I exchanged a couple emails with this person. The eBay Motors Purchase receipt seemed to be authentic. However, I was puzzled because a section in the instructions said to wire the payment to an ebay agent named 'MICHELLE BAILEY' person to person as friend not a commercial account so he wouldnt be charged a 15% tax fee. He then wanted a reply to the proposed(fake) eBay vehicle purchase order with all the money gram info; refer#, sender, receiver, amount, etc. to this fax# 858-408-3555. I then became suspicious and call the # just to see if it was a valid fax#. I found it very perculiar that it was a message/fax not a traditional fax with the beeping sound. I then followed my internal red flag to search fax # to see if it was an actual eBay number. Not to my surprise, it was bogus number. Thank God I didnt follow through with that wire transfer. FYI, the email he used is; 'frankthomson3gmx.com'

FBI Warns of Online Car-Sales Scam
Scam artists pose as military personnel about to be deployed

    March 9, 2009

Scam artists are now posing as members of the United States military in a new ruse to dupe consumers buying vehicles on the Internet, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warns.
These scammers claim they’ve either been sent overseas to improve military relations or need to sell their vehicles “quickly and cheaply” because of upcoming deployments to Iraq or Afghanistan, FBI officials say.
This is a new twist to an old scam that continues to rip-off unsuspecting consumers buying cars and other vehicles on the Internet, the FBI says.
“Victims find attractively priced vehicles advertised at different Internet classified ad sites,” the agency warns. “Most of the scams include some type of third-party vehicle protection program to ensure a safe transaction.”
After consumers receive what the FBI calls “convincing e-mails from the phony vehicle protection program,” they are told to send either the full payment -- or a percentage of the payment -- to the third-party agent using a wire payment service.
“No vehicles are delivered to the victims,” the FBI said.
Consumers can protect themselves from getting taken in one of these schemes by doing their homework before buying any vehicles on the Internet, the FBI said. Consumers should also know and follow the rules used by the Internet sites they visit. If someone asks you to break those rules, the FBI warns, that person is likely trying to rip you off.
