Very demanding message on my work voice mail.  I have already sent information to this company that they are beyond the statute of limitations in trying to collect a debt that was a remnant of a divorce.  Their attempt at frightening me is just annoying.  They go away for several months and return with a vengeance for a few weeks.  This is a continuous cycle for them.  They never state that they are a collection agency or are calling on behalf or are an attorney.

We have had three phone calls from 866-328-8253(Hargove), 866-224-9825 ext 295(Alba Floyd), and 866-224-9823 (Catherine Lopez at North Star).  They are all asking for a person to call them back that does not, and has never, lived at this number.  Their message implies urgency in returning a call.  I thought I would run an internet check before calling them back to tell them they have the wrong number.  It appears that they have a history of rude, pest-like behaviors.

    These people are pure evil!!

My elderly mother answered a call from a "Miss Hargrove" who gave her number as 866-224-9825, but when I hit *69 it said the number was 866-224-9822.  She said she was trying to reach (my brother's ex-wife; I'll call her 'X') and that she needed to speak with X within the hour.  The call came in around 10 AM - noon, and mom told 'Miss Hargrove' that she would not even be able to get a message to X until after X got off work around 5 or 6 PM, that if they needed to talk to X within one hour, they should have called last week so she could try to get a message to X.

Miss Hargrove told my mom that the more time she (mom) talked, the more time she was taking away from X (as if it were some matter of life or death or incarceration or something equally dreadful).  After that first call, Mom called back the number 'Hargrove' gave her, 866-224-9825, reached a man who put her through to Miss Hargrove, who ended up hanging up on mom.

Either way, I decided to call the number, to tell them that I would not allow them to further upset my mother, who is old and on oxygen and can't deal with phone calls at all to begin with; I wanted the name and address of the company so that I could inform them in writing to stop calling here; the woman who answered wouldn't even let me say that much before yelling at me that if I wouldn't stop talking, and listen to her, that she would have to terminate the call.  I told her I was just trying to explain the situation and reason for my call.  She went from saying she needed to know my phone number so she'd know which # for them to stop calling, to curtly saying 'thank you' and hanging up on me before I could even give the number.

BTW, when I called the number I got from *69, the -9822 one, when the female answered, she simply said something like, thank you for holding, how are you doing this morning?  She did NOT state the Co. name when answering, like a professional would do; when I asked for the name of the Company, she said she was calling FOR NorthStar Location Service, which means she works for a subcontracting phone center.  I've worked in a call center doing research surveys (NO sales or collections) and some of them do use fake names, so there probably isn't even a real 'Miss Hargrove" anywhere.

I hope the info provided by 'anonymous' is correct, as I will be contacting the BBB about this whole absurd event.

As for a 'solution', mine was to get Caller ID added to our phone bill, and to tell mom not to answer ANY calls from an 800 or 877 or 866 number.  People should NOT have to increase their phone bill, and check Caller ID on every incoming call, just to avoid these bloodsuckers' phone calls about people who have NEVER lived here.  There's a special place in hell for collections agencies and their lackeys.  I can understand legitimate polite efforts to collect on a debt, but these people go FAR beyond rude and ruthless.  (And yes I will have to tone this down for the BBB)

Got a call today from them. They do not say that they are a collection company...just that there is an urgent matter that requires an immediate returned call. I think this collection group is more of a Gestapo Type Group that is hired to chase down debts that are SOL (Statute of Limitations) protected. Check with your state laws and see if you have reached the SOL status. If you have (4 years in Texas), they have no legal remedy ... unless ... they can get you to make a small payment or admit you owe the debt...then your time starts over again. The best thing to do is "note" the number and say nothing...not even "SOL".

A scumbag by the name of Mr. Greenwood keeps calling for my husband.  He says he has an urgent business matter to discuss with him.  Either my husband or his representitives can return his call at 1-866-224-9825.  Caller ID says the call came from 1-402-934-6251 Timberline Total, whoever they are.  I googled the number and found out they are a collection agency, Northstar.  My husband is a quintuple heart by-pass patient and the very LAST person I would let him speak to about any "supposed" debt are these low life, leach, bottom feeders.  Thank God for caller ID.  We can just ignore these pests and send them right to voice mail and blow them out!!  Beware, this company is only out to make your life miserable while they TRY to squeeze a nickle of you.

    Hi,
All you need to do is send a Cease Contact letter via certified mail w/ return receipt from the US Post Office. By law, they have to stop. It worked for me!
Go to this site to find a sample letter.

The collection agency continues to call me demanding payment for a debt that I don't owe. Of course everyone says that. But the collection agency calls and threatens to contact my employer regarding the matter. The debt has nothing to do with my employer and my employer does not like being contacted by creditors. I attempted to work out a payment plan (even though I feel that I don't owe, just for them to go away) and they demanded a certain amount or else they would not work with me. The lady that called was pleasant and then transferred me to her supervisor who was very rude. They have repeatedly called me on my job and is jeopardizing my job. Again I don't mind working with them, but I don't appreciate being threatened and being contacted at my job.

If you want their address, simply call them ask them how much you owe and where to send the check. Then, send them a CERTIFIED cease and desist letter.  If you can prove they call you after you see that the letter was received (you can track it at usps.com) you can then sue them.  Get these [***]!

I've been contacted by dozens of such collections agencies over someone's  alleged debt from 10 years ago.  I happen to have the same name as someone they appear to tracking down, assuming they aren't simply phishing.  Most seem to be from the upper NY area, but a few appear to have called from CA & FL.  Sending a cease and detest letter only helps with one agency.  The problem is they have dozens (hundreds) of sub companies where they seem to simply pass around one's name / phone number & alleged debt.  Each promises not to call again (and typically don't), but after a few months - .....

Understand that they call for AT&T and for Northwest Community Hospital, both of which are in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. As for AT&T, understand that they make big errors. As for the hospital, understand that they call people who have sued the hospital for malpractice just to harrass them. Understand that they have the full blessing of the local Republican congressman to do that. He is a Tom Delay protege and wanted not to long ago to make a trade deal with Uribe, if you can believe it. He uses this collection agency, I understand, to harass his political

I just got a voicemail from them who actualy wanted to speak to 'lastname' then he said 'also known as 'sucks' then went on to talk about how urgent it was that the person should get back to them.

    First: How rude is that?
Second: How did they manage to leave a voicemail without the phone ever registering a ring or even a call at all?

They are the rudest ever! I have never felt so offended in my life, by someone trying to collect a debt. They also contacted me DEMANDING the full amount, when I tried to arrange payment arrangements they said they couldn't work with me and hung up on me. They really need to brush up on their customer service skills, They made the situation worst, I REALLY don't want to pay them now. I have contacted a lawyer because I know that they have cross the line, and I want legal advice on how to deal with them.
