- kcnext time a cashier asks for your phone number
just give them this number, LOL! - jakeeHaitian voice huh?
I receive several "unavailable" calls with a Foreign sounding
voice. Then this phone number pops up occasionally.
I wonder if its them.
recently the "unavailable" foreign voice wanted to
get me a medical card. I just hung up.
I have this Theory that its a scam being run by collection
agencies. If they can't get money or information one way
they will try another way.
They just want money and will try anything to get it. - Amy BI've rec'd multiple calls from this organization that leaves a message stating to call Mr. Martin, a phone number (866 429 3591) that does not work and an ID code for whatever reason.
These calls are for the woman who previously had this phone # and is a deadbeat named Walsh, Patty or something.
They identify themselves as being a debt collection company & that they're "attempting to collect a debt".- Caller: Asset Care
- BudThe have been told to remove our number from their database which they have not done. If you tell them you are recording them they quickly tell you you don't have their permission - HELLO they don't have my permission to call my number!

Burns me big time, they ask if I know the person! I DON'T. They also hang up on me when I try to explain. Last night I blew up! I want to file a complaint, don't know where to go.

- TJMhttp://www.ncogroup.com/ is the website of NCO Portfolio Management. From what I've seen, they are the parent company of ASSet Care. The president/ceo is Michael Barrist. I say we all start sending letters to his attention...maybe then we'll get some resolution. Thoughts?

- sdm replies to m.h.| 3 repliesAre you being sarcastic about Verizon? I just got a new Verizon phone # and I have received calls about uncollected debt and I don't have any debt, I haven't had any in over 20 years. It was a prerecorded message and when I called to ask why they were calling me they put me on hold and didn't come back in a reasonable amount of time so I hung up and googled the number.
- PaulThis number has been calling us for a few days now, being rude, and constantly hanging up the phone, saying we owe money for a doctor's visit in August. But my family didn't have medical problems in August. We've had this our number for 25 years, so they don't have the wrong number.

- A old collector that knows the lawI got this call on 12/26/07 at 7:35am and got a recording like everyone else, but being a fellow collector myself(over 10 years ago that is) I decided to call and find whats is up, I was put on hold for over 30 mins hung up and called back again, that person that answered refused to give name of company and ID herself said I owed a debt that was about 12 years old which is chargeoff by name depending which state it was, I was even harrase about the debt. I advise the person about the fair debt credit act and that person what they can and can not do. which states :
Contacting a debtor.
A collector may contact you in person, by mail, telephone, telegram or fax. However, a debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., unless you agree. A debt collector also may not contact you at work if the collector knows that your employer disapproves of such contacts.
Contacting a third party about your debt.
If you have an attorney, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you do not have an attorney, a collector may contact other people but only to find out where you live, what your phone number is and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting such third parties more than once. In most cases, the collector may not tell anyone other than you and your attorney that you owe money.
Giving written notice.
Within five days after you are first contacted, the collector must send you a written notice telling you the amount of money you owe, the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money and what action to take if you believe you do not owe the money.
When a consumer doesn't owe the money.
A collector may not contact you if within 30 days after you receive the written notice you send the collection agency a letter stating you do not owe money. However, a collector can renew collection activities if you are sent proof of the debt, such as a copy of a bill for the amount owed.
No harassment
Debt collectors may not harass, oppress or abuse you or any third party they contact.
Debt collectors may not:
Falsely imply that they are attorneys or government representatives.
Falsely imply that you have committed a crime.
Falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit bureau.
Misrepresent the amount of your debt.
Give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit bureau.
Send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency when it is not.
Debt collectors may not state that:
You will be arrested if you do not pay your debt.
They will seize, garnish, attach or sell your property or wages unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so and it is legal to do so.
Actions, such as a lawsuit, will be taken against you when such action legally may not be taken or when they do not intend to take such action.
No unfair practices
A debt collector may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt from you.
Debt collectors may not:
Collect any amount greater than your debt, unless your state law permits such a charge.
Deposit a postdated check prematurely.
Use deception to make you accept collect calls or pay for telegrams.
Take or threaten to take your property unless this can be done legally.

- Tracey M, Woodbridge, VA & Wallace, WV| 2 repliesI've been getting calls from this number for a couple of years now; never asks for a name but always leaves a "Case" number to call about. Now this is the wierd part...I've gotten these calls repeatedly in West VA yet I just returned from West VA last night after being there for 6 days and had 2 calls from this same so-called collection agency on my answering machine. I have called this number and an actual person answered the phone. The message left on my machine said his name is Mr. Martin. He had no clue as to who I was or what I was talking about, they didn't have the phone number I had been left a message on (requesting my return call) and I told him if he didn't stopp calling, I'd call whomever I had to to get this crap stopped. And yes, I plan to do something.

- ec replies to Tracey M, Woodbridge, VA & Wallace, WV| 1 replyAsset Care is just a subsidiary of the debt collection industry's biggest lawbreakers: NCO Group, Inc. In 2004, the FTC fined NCO Group $1.5 million for multiple violations of federal credit reporting laws; the fine was the largest ever imposed on a debt collector to date. NCO was deliberately reporting false information about consumers to the credit bureaus in an obvious attempt to illegally re-age expired debts. Here's Bud Hibbs' report on NCO and his advice on dealing with them: http://www.budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/nco_financial_systems.htm And here is more advice on dealing with NCO and its subsidiaries: http://www.ethannonsequitur.com/nco-financial-systems.html
Since NCO is dishonest enough to sabotage consumer credit ratings with false information, then it stands to reason that its subsidiaries are just as crooked and untrustworthy. That's why anyone dealing with AssetCare should be especially vigilant. Here are some links to a litany of complaints against AssetCare and NCO:

To stop AssetCare's calls, send them a letter notifying them that they are to cease all attempts to contact you and warning them that you will pursue legal penalties against them under the provisions of federal law if they don't comply with your cease-communication request. Just be sure to send the letter via certified US Mail with a return receipt request, and save a copy of your letter. This is AssetCare's address: Assetcare, Inc.
5100 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Norcross, GA 30071. If AssetCare/NCO contacts you more than once after receiving your cease-communication notice, then they are in violation of the law and subject to monetary penalties for each violation. In other words: if they don't obey the law, you can sue the hell out them. :) You can also file complaints with your state's attorney general and online with the Federal Trade Commission: https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01
