Call with no message

they called at 7:08 AM, asked if I wanted to take a collect phone call from a jail inmate, the thing is I have a block for collect calls, I hung up.

Got the same message, someone from valley nidorf juvenile hall (which doesn't exist anymore, it is the former name of Sylmar juvenile hall). They have called 8 times in 3 days, I keep refusing.

I had two calls from from 866-478-8892, one at 1:23 pm and one at 6:16 pm.  I was on the phone and did not switch over.  When I tried to call back the number it says it has been disconnected and no longer in service.  Very strange.

I received a call on my cellphone this morning from . I thought it was pretty odd to receive a "collect call from someone in Los Angeles jail". I think this is fraudulent. I'm planning to call Cingular to have it reported. I definitely don't want to find an outrageous expensive surprise charge on my cellphone bill!

I received 3 calls from this number last sunday i didnt get to answer... i know someone who is in jail but i just talked to him and he said he never called me on sunday... what is going on?

I just discovered that my cc has been charged $19.95/month since 2005 and I do not even know who or what this is.  The phone number on my statement is 888-243-6180 CT and when I call it I got the same, a text indicating to respond with "Y" but it fails.  What is this????

The number called me at 10 this morning. I have a cell phone so I"m surprised that a collect call can come through. Anyway, my cousin is in jail right now and I know he really wants to talk to me. I assumed it was him calling but I was half asleep and my phone was locked and I kept pressing the wrong button. Eventually it hung up.

This is a person trying to call you from a county jail. If you miss the call you're out of luck and need to wait for them to call you back.. But to be honest.. this system is so screwed up.. I have it all set up right but they cant seem to get us connected!!! IM SOO PISSED!! anyone got any suggestions?

I got this call 1-866-478-8892 and I can not return trhe call right then i got a messege with a prerecored call saying something about the West "something" Correctional officae in Richmond,Ca..Im really confused because I donrt know anyone is jail..

Received a cell phone call @ 9:44 AM today, 11/7/07.  Recording stated it was a collect call from DeKalb County Jail.  Would I accept the call, if so please enter a credit card number for pre paid calls.  I pressed one which stated that I didn't want the call.

Called saying that an inmate at Middlesex Correctional Facility was trying to make a collect call.  Press 1 to accept.  Hung up.

I was on line and one of those tricky sites asked me for my cell # then I was texed the cost  will be $9.99 I tried texting back and was given this phone number to call I called and it gave me the web add smsvw.I do not want to be billed $9.99..This happened another time so I know they have my credit card number they have a scam going on.

I got a call on my cellphone today. It rang twice then quit . I tried calling it back serveral times , and each time I was told to check the number , then try my call again after a very loud , very long tone. I do not know whom this call came from , but was quite distrubed that just anyone apparently can get my private number. I was horrified to google the number , and find that this same number has appeared on so many others phones.

Interesting... I just got a call from 866-800-0234 last night (twice) with the same message that someone was in jail, etc... and they wanted me to enter my credit card information.... very creepy.

Asked me for credit card information to accept a collect call from someone in the county jail. Called twice in one evening, about 45 minutes apart.

I'm having this same issue, but Verizon says they can't do anything about it.  This is such a scam--why is it legal for someone to charge my account when I never gave them authorization?  I don't even know what this service is?!  Verizon gave me a number and told me all they could do was block all texting to my phone, but they could not give me a refund.  How did you get Cingular to listen to you and take your side?

I work at a pizza place in Oakland county, Michigan. We got 2 calls saying "this is a collect call from... Antoine... In Wayne county Prison. To accept the call, press 1 now..." the second time the guy said "'Ey, this is Jay" and it was from Oakland county prison. i pressed one, and it made a terrible sound then it was silent. I figured it was a prank.

You don't have to give them your credit card number--they automatically charge your phone company and it's impossible to talk to someone to find out what this service is and how you automatically got signed up!

Got a call, recorded msg from state penitentiary would I accept call, hung up. I've been getting a few odd calls from people with out of state #'s that I can not call back and this call ever since placing a classified ad in the L.A. Times.
