Interesting as I read about this dilemma for the unsuspecting public.  I too was called today.  I was told in a prerecorded message that an inmate was attempting to contact me via Global Tel Link (1-866-230-7761).  At the end of the message I was asked if I wanted to be contacted by the messenging service (1-800-483-8314) to accept the call via an operator of some sort. I hit the button associated with "yes" (as I was feeling a little peeved).  Within a reasonable amount of time I was contacted (half hour to 45 minutes).

I pushed the operator for more information, a well spoken woman.  She reluctantly told me that the number was coming from a payphone inside the Stafford Creek Correctional Facility, but she could not give me the name, as she was simply a message operator for them.

Given the additional posts that I have read here, I also see that other prison facilities are associated with this (in the same area???), an employee?? I wonder???  Just a guess there however......  What does all this mean I wonder?  How could this number be coming from more than one facility, if it is a stationary payphone, on a wall somewhere??

I then got online, and started researching, and found this place to leave a memo, as I was a little unnerved, and know NOONE from any prisons.  I don't hang out with such crowds.

additionally, Stafford Creek Facility is in WA state.  I also have an unlisted number, I am also on the do not call registry, AND this was on my home phone, not a cell.

I will be calling my isp, and my phone company tomorrow to see if I have any suspicious charges to my number.

OOOOOOHHHHHHH  and one more thing, at the end of my conversation with her she asked me if I wanted to block calls from the facility calling me.....I told her "ABSOLUTELY"!!!!!!!!!!!  Then she asked me my full name and I wasn't even thinking ......and I gave her that tooooooo  sheesh!!!  Don't be too trusting with these people....the wiff of bs is pretty ripe here!!!

I've received the text messages noted as well indicating that the Locator Services will renew. I have never texted any game shows and actually started getting the messages before I texted anyone. After receiving these texts, I received a charge for $9.99 on my Sprint bill from Uscellnet.

I got two calls on my AT&T cell phone yesterday.  I didn't answer either call, they did not leave voicemail.

I received a call awhile ago from this number doing the collect call thing. I just got another call this morning, a recording saying it was important that I call them back at 866-230-7761

I just received a call from that number today too (866-478-8892). Missed the call. Actually I received two calls today from that number. I received a call yesterday from some other number (866-800-0234) with a pre-recorded message that said some inmate from jail was trying to call collect. I hung up. So strange. I don't want these calls!

Got another call from this number, but it was doing the collect call thing. These folks are driving me crazy. It was a voicemail again.

Called my cell 4 times today. I didn't get to hte phone before they hung up and when I did no one said anything.

got several calls today from this number ... tried to call it back and said the call couldn't be completed.   ANNOYING!

It called me twice today, September 16th. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Approximatly 8:00am and 7:30pm. As soon as I answer it they hang up. Kinda creepy.

Dialed number of Virginia Legal Aid Society (VLAS) 800-552-7676. Automachine cut in to press any phone key for further info on this number. I now suspect I will be charged $9.99. If so, forget authorities. I will find these devils and extract my own justice from them according to their own rules.

My Fiance and I have both received numerous calls from this number.  I sure hope that it is not a scam of some type, that will charge my account with all kind of fradulent charges.  I called the number back and it says that "The Service you requested is not available in your area."  I didn't answer any one of the 4 or 5 different calls.  Anyone who wants to put an end to this possible fraudulent behavior go to www.donotcall.gov and file a complaint against the number.  On the website you can also put yourself on a no call list so that you can be protected in the future from telemarketers and other mean, vial, evil people.

That number is to The Duval County Jail. Its probablly someone needing your help. if you don't know anyone in jail then don't answer. when i get calls from there they are collect and cost me 7 dollars for a 15 minute call.

I have received this call now twice on my cell and it says its from the Bridgeport Correctional Facility.  Nope, don't know anyone who's in jail so I am sure it's a hoax.

received a call from this number on my cell phone yesterday 3pm (pst).  pre-recorded message was from "Collier County Jail" and asked me to call back another number to set up an account to accept a collect call.  i'm sure it's a scam - i'd like to form a formal complaint but not sure how.  bbb or ftc.gov?

Not sure there, but back on page four is the number of a legal intern and a website.  I say we flood the website with emails!!!

We have enough people in this thread, to do some damage and start making some heads roll, lest more unsuspecting consumers get taken advantage of!!
