Actually, that's where you're wrong.
They put that notice on the application process to cover themselves when they sell your number.

As a business they are legally aloud to trade services with other companies.
But WE are legally protected from such actions.
So to protect themselves from lawsuits, they post an advisory message. Which is all that is required by law.

So, no, they are NOT allowed to call without your prior permission.
And no where in the application (including fine print) does it say anything about them selling your number.

I am calling the Jobs.com offices tomorrow to file a formal complaint.
I'm also calling this Career Advisors company and informing them that I am not interested in their services and wish to be removed from their call lists.
There's no use bitching them out or tearing the phone operator a new one.
He/she is just doing their job.
If they keep calling, ask to speak to a supervisor.
Or request the number where you can reach their main office.
File a formal complaint with the main office.
And if that doesn't get the point across, go to an attorney and have them write up a legal request to cease harassment.
That usually stops it quite quickly.

The company is on a "auto dailer" and just not answering the phone calls isn't going to make them stop! The reps on the other end have NO control on who they call over and over again! So if they keep calling you then please just pick up the phone and ask to be put THEIR DNC list. If that doesn't work then ask to speak with an supervisor. It's a no cost service and it just helps y'all get into contact with schools. So please just try and be nice with the reps that call you. They've helped hundreds a people get back into schools and make better lives for them and their families!

The company is Career Advisor. There are three ways in which they get your information. 1) You visit a website owned by them and specifically request information on returning to school. 2) You indicate on another website (such as jobs.com) that you'd like to receive information about continuing education. 3) You call them directly and give them your information. The point is, *you* asked for it, whether you intended to or not. If you don't want information on continuing your education, please don't indicate that you do when you are on job websites.

Also, they representatives who call are not psychic. Ignoring them will not get them to stop calling. All they know is that YOU requested information, you didn't answer, and they should call back at another time. If you don't want them to call, just answer the phone and ask to be put on their 'do not call' list. It's simple, and only takes a second. If you ask them to stop, they won't stop, because it was you who asked for them to call in the first place.

It is not a scam, and they do not ask for your social security number or billing information. They won't take your money. They put you into contact with universities, colleges, and schools that have programs that you are looking for. That's ALL they do.

no wonder all of you are unemployed. all you have to say is PUT ME ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST!!!simple as that.

The last thing you should do is to constantly call them over and over again. This is called harrassment and is illegal. This can legally bite you in the [***] and isn't worth it.

What has happened is that while you were on www.jobs.com looking for a job, while you were registering for the website, you listed your phone number. The website does say (in small letters) that your information will be forwarded (not sold) to companies that can refer you to "career college" schools.

So, if you are calling to harrass the company, guess what?! They have your name, number and address. They have enough ammo to press charges if they chose to.

All you have to do is when they call is to tell the person on the phone that you are only looking for a job and to remove your number from the list. If you are returning a call, be polite and just say that you are only looking for a job and you want your number removed. By law, your name and number can be removed from the calling queue.

How do I know this? I worked for this company a short time through a temp service.

hi i use to work for career advisor, when they call it will always be an 866 number, there will never be unknown. it may be another company affiliated whatever job website you went to. there are many career advisor companies affiliated with those job.com websites. if you ask them to take you off of the list and then wait 48 hrs without answering another call from them, the calls will stop after 48 hrs. they are actually only interested in talking to people that want to go back to school. good luck with everything. and remember they are people just like you doing a job, they help a lot of people that dont think they can go back to school. it is a legitimate company though.

well as childish as it may be, it may just get coded as inappropriate call or not interested. if you just act like an adult and say take me off of your calling list, they will do it. they are looking for mature adults and young adults that are interested in furthering their education not people that are going to job.com websites just to play silly kid prank games. but hope you are enjoying yourself. and good luck with finding a job. lol

read the fine print again. it does give them freedom to sell your contact info. if you gave them your info, you agreed to their terms.

Sorry, no legitimate company randomly autodials until connected then hangs up without saying a word or leaving a message. They're in violation of the Do Not Call act.

The only sites that have my number is snagajob.com and my unemployment site. I know neither one of them have any little writing or other wording that says they will give out my number. Not only that I have not wanted any other information about going back to school. So when people say thats the only reason they call is full of dookie. If and when I find out who sold my number and personal information, I would be filing a class action lawsuit. Well thats all I have to say for now.

From Snagajob's terms of use *you all should read the fine print of every site you submit info to - every company has a right to do whatever they decide with whatever information you put on their sites - you agree to it by submitting the info.  If you don't want to be called, don't put in a valid phone number

Read = "license to use" - does not specify how they will or will not use it

I work for Career Advisor and HATE IT! However, we are required by law to leave a message and must at least say something when people answer. I don' t know who keeps calling you and not saying anything, but it's not right. The company is shady for sure...they know how to fly under the radar just right so they don't violate FCC. They are not very employee friendly either. Just please remember, we are people just trying to do our job, even if we don't like it. Please don't yell at us or curse. Also, if you ask to be put on the DNC list, please let us explain to you about how it take up to 48 BUSINESS hours for it go through. Don't hang up in the middle. Thanks.

They are only open 8am-9pm M-Th, 8am-8pm F, and 10am-6:30pm on Sat., Central Time. They can't call you at ALL hours, and it is an automated dialer...please don't yell at us on the other end. Thanks.

They are part of a company called Target Marketing/Plattform Advertising. Hope that helps!! Usually if you really want the # removed quickly, asking for a supervisor over the phone will do the trick.

I work there now and she is right. Just be polite...I know most of us won't fight you. We really will get you off of the list ASAP. I hate that place.

Well said!! I spend a good chunk of my day leaving messages. I spend the rest RARELY talking to actual people. The stupid company actually expects us to meet some stupid quota that is unattainable. If you have an issue, their number is 913-254-6000.   Please don't be rude...I hate working there but it is paying my bills 'til something better comes along.

This isn't the first time I've heard of this problem, with calling the Career Advisor number back and getting a $3.49 charge as if you called China.

I worked at CA for more than half a year and I talked to maybe four or five people with similar issues in the entire time. I don't know why that occurred. They have call centers in Kansas, the Phillipines, and India, but not in China.

It is definitely not a valid charge, but I don't know why it happens every once in a while to some people. I think your best bet though, is to contact your phone company and get the charge reversed.  

p.s. Sorry about all the calls, people. They pay $12 an hour and I'm just trying to get through college here.
