- William - SACUNick, do you get professional help to combt your paranoia? I work in Customer Relations for Time Warner Cable. Perhaps it is you that works fo the spammers and are trying to incite anger about everyone but you, as you are the true phisher/scammer.
See, I can play the paranoia game too. - BobBobBob| 1 replyLegitimate call from my credit union's fraud detection department.
I have gotten this call a couple of times this summer, when my travel and spending patterns were indeed unusual. The system will keep calling you back to make sure some bozo hasn't taken your debit card for a cross-country ride! This is a valuable service.
There are a lot of folks on this list crying "Scam!". Perhaps there is a scammer out there spoofing this number? Perhaps there is a scammer with a phone number that's one digit off, and people are getting them instead? But my experience has been 100% positive, even though no fraud had occurred.
For your reference: If they leave a message, you will be prompted to call back with a "confirmation number". When you call back (or if you answer when they call), you will ONLY be asked for your zip code, and then will be asked whether three selected transactions were actually made by you. I have never talked to a person, or been prompted for my card number or anything more personal than my zip code. But I haven't had any fraudulent transactions show up, either.- Caller: Credit Union Fraud Prevention

- BobBobBob replies to BobBobBobOne more thing I should mention. The system attempts to read the name of the joint you (or someone with your card) bought something from. But it's a pretty stupid computer, and it can't tell that "CHEVRON #2145551212" shouldn't be pronounced "chevron number two billion one hundred forty five million...". It's fun to listen to it read off a dozen zeroes, too. It's a sign of a poorly-implemented text-to-speech engine, not a scammer.
- texman22They left a message saying to call back and gave me a number to enter. I was a little hesitant because of all the different post on here so I call my bank and asked them to tell me if the number was legit and they said it was. So I called it and all I had to do was tell them if some transactions I had made were mine or not.

- AJI just got a call from this company after making a $500 purchase from Newegg. I called them and spoke to a representative and they're from FISERV, which is a company that processes payments for a very large number of banks. It's a totally legitimate company (I used to work for my bank and have dealt with FISERV many many times) and a totally legitimate call.
When I called back the automated number, I was asked to confirm the last 4 numbers of my debit card (the system read them to me) and then it presented three transactions from my card: the one from Newegg and two others. Once I acknowledged that these transactions were valid the system told me I could continue to use my card.
Not calling them back could result in your card being frozen, so if you ignore the call be prepared for the consequences.- Caller: "Not Provided" came up

- RichardTHIS IS A SCAM. I work for the Army's Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D). If you get a call from this number DO NOT give out any information, hang up and call the police. There has been over 100 police reports made in the last 2 months alone all over the country for this number. These people need to be shut down.

- VickiIt was a voice recorded message asking about my card ending in <4 digits> and asked if I had that card with <bank name> to press 1. I checked this page as I did it. It then asked if I had made a purchase in the amount of $15.02 at and gave the info the same way it shows on my bank statement "7-ELEVEN <store number>" and asked to press 1 if I made it and 2 if I didn't. I was slow to login to my bank account to verify these and made it repeat 3 times, after that it connected me to a real person who only verified the last 4 of my social and my zip code on file then asked about that transaction plus one more from the same day or day before.
I've had this particular credit union account for 10+ years but I moved out of the area almost 2 years ago (in other words, made it hard to deposit to) so this is the first real activity for over a year and a half on the card. The zip code associated with my card matches the same city I was using the card in but if I was my bank, I would probably wonder too.
In short: Legitimate call. If they ask for anything more than 4 digits of personal info or more than just your zip it's probably a phishing attempt to impersonate this service. They should already have your card number and be able to give you the exact transaction details (The same you can find by logging in and checking your online bank statement)- Call type: Unwanted
- Jay replies to BerryThis number is legit. I used my card while on vacation and they were just calling to confirm the charges I made. It was all automated (no waiting), took less than 5 minutes and seems like a good service from my bank.
- ScamScam!!!! I just got a call from this number and then checked my bank account to see that everything was ok. Just to be sure I called my bank and they said this is not their fraud protection number and asked me to give them this number immediately. I knew it because I havent had any irregular transactions. Please do not call this number back.
- fluffypiranhaI received a phone call from this #. I hung up without providing any info. and called the bank. It is a legit service. I had made a large purchase at Walmart. If you would like to talk to a human instead of a machine call 1-866-262-2024. The gentleman I spoke to was very nice. They will only ask for your name and verification of your address. If for some reason you did not get the 6 digit # call the 1-866-262-2024. The message on my voice mail cut off before they could leave the 6 digit #.

- JoshI received a call by this company and was told a charge of over $9500 was put on my card. After this call I called my bank and was told the call was legit and this company services over 3000 banks and credit unions in the US. They were way off on the dollar amount, though. By about $9450.

- TammyThis is a scam. The end of August they called to verify a charge I attempted to make. I had plenty of money in the bank to cover the item I was buying, but got some note that the bank denied the charge. Within 2 hours or so I received a call to verify the charge. I never got the product. Within 2 weeks I had fraudulent charges to my bank visa card.

- Relieved -- It is legit. After returning a call from a voicemail message and speaking with a rep from the Fraud detection center (866-750-9107), I became suspicious and withdrew most of the money left in my account. I then proceeded to call the lost or stolen number on the back of my bank card. The agent I spoke with transferred me directly to the fraud detection center -- IT WAS THE SAME PERSON FROM THE 866 750 9107 PHONE NUMBER. SO, IT IS LEGIT.
- miss+meehthis is so awesome.. i purchase some items overseas last night then all of sudden i receive these calls on my work and cell phone. so yes not a scam.. totally cool.. and the people they were very nice. just call the number back.
- fraudsmasherI hate all the confusion surrounding this number. This number is NOT A SCAM. As stated by another poster above, this number is owned by Fiserv, the "worlds largest financial services company". They contract with thousands of banks and credit unions for fraud analysis. If you receive a call, it's because something was flagged with your account.
I can understand some of the confusion surrounding this number as they generically label themselves the "fraud detection center". I'm certain this is so they don't have to claim to be with a thousand different banks when contacting clients. I'm sure this is why they have a unique code for each incident. This way, when you call in and supply the code, they can say "this was detected on behalf of XYZ Bank". Makes sense to me.
Anyway, please notice the people that continue to claim that this is a scam. Notice the same text posted over and over again.. "The writers above who are saying this is a legitimate call are part of this scam. This is NOT a legitimate call. They are trying to obtain account information. Per my personal banker, DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS CALL. Instead, report it to the proper authorites, as I have done. Then we will shut these crooks down." ... Also notice the date range on the posts made by that user and consider the following:
1. If this were a scam, and the first report of this number on this forum was on October 18th of 2007, don't you think it'd be shut down by November of 2009? Our government is slow, but not THAT slow.
2. Caller ID can easily be spoofed when they call you, but when YOU CALL this number you're being routed to the real deal. If they speak fluent English and have details of your account, either it's the worlds largest and most complex scam to date that has been ongoing for over two years OR THEY'RE TRYING TO HELP PREVENT FRAUD ON YOUR ACCOUNT.
3. Last but not least, notice how many of the "this is scam" comments are repetitive (the exact same text verbatim). This indicates to me that these messages are either automated (message spam, unlikely with the validation code) or someone very persistent who continues to provide no details on why they believe this is scam. These are often people (whether via automated tools or persistence) who are purposely trying to add to the confusion and likely part of the criminal community behind the thousands of vishing, smishing, and phishing scams.
By adding to the confusion, they're helping misguide "good guy" resources. Each time someone reads this forum and believes the "this is a scam" posts then contacts the authorities, they're draining resources. It's basically a guerilla warfare tactic.
If you're called by this number, do yourself a favor and don't give out info right then. CALL THEM BACK and then give info. This is to avoid caller ID spoofing, a popular miscreant trick.
Good luck out there...- Call type: Unwanted
- Washington replies to LoriI called my bank and they said it was a scam
- WashingtonWhat's funny about this call was they were mixing up the account name, swapping the first and middle name around, it's hilarious, their pathetic attempt, kind of matches their pathetic lives ripping people off. The feds and banks should do more to catch these crooks and put them in a cell

- It's Legit! replies to BerryJust got a call from the Fraud Detection Center with a number of 866-750-9107. It was triggered from a website purchase I made (which I thought was US) but, was actually China.. My Card will not process a transaction from China which triggered the call. I would advise you to contact your bank if you get this call but, it is legit. If you got the call then there is a problem or a concern about your account.. CALL SOMEONE
- KathrynThis is NOT a scam...and hell no I don't work for them...but they DO work for my Credit Union!
They was calling me because I was trying to purchase windows for my house and the charge wouldn't go through. They thought it was fraud...it's NOT! Got my windows bought and they had the info of the last 3 transactions on my account. I talked to the lady at my Credit Union and she said they DO work for them!!! - Cautious!I answered a call from this number> It was a recording saying it was from the fraud department of my bank. Suspicious, I hung up. I got the call again and let it go to voicemail. Again, it asked for me to call the number back and give the id# they gave and to verify my bank name. DON'T call any number you do not recognize! LOOK UP YOUR BANK'S PHONE NUMBER ON YOUR OWN and tell them about any thing like this. You will be directed to the REAL fraud department.
