Must consider that if a scam, as it appears to be - they steal twice, once from the donor and
secondly from those legitimate groups who need money desperately.- Caller: US Armed Forces Association

- J Kretzer replies to Eddie| 12 repliesI am a retired SFC, and an Iraq vet. Organizations that make money off the blood and sweat of our veterans make me ill. USAFA takes 80% of every dollar you send them for "operating costs". The other 20% goes to the actual charity of helping the service member. This service largely consists of USAFA helping vets complete paperwork for the VA, that VA counselors do for free anyway. It is a total sham, and I don't see how they can call themselves a not-for-profit organizations, when all they do is profit from the generosity of well meaning donors.
- Pam in Austin replies to J KretzerThanks so much for your information. I too received call, asked how much went to who and they could not answer. I then told them I am with two groups on Facebook, one of which we have a former vet and VA volunteer who helps those vets in need of finding resources called Welcome Home Veterans, another for vets to talk about politics. I am going to bring this to their attention as the end of July 30th is a big recognition day for current and former armed forces folks.Hence, the scammers dialing for dollars. YOUR POST WAS VERY HELPFUL.And, thank you for your service, it is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Pam B. - C.I received a call, as well. They wanted me to make a donation over the phone, but I requested that they mail me some information. I just received the information in the mail. Their brochure has 3 logos on the back that are slightly blurry...this made me suspicious. They claim to be supported as one of the Best of America: Independent Charities of America, as they have this badge on their brochure and on their website. I went to the Independent Charities of America website...they have a list of all the organizations they support, and this organization (United States Armed Forces Association) is not even listed. Unfortunately, it sounds like a scam to me!
- Linda ParamoThe "United States Armed Forces Association" now has a new phone number 1-800-203-4163
I was contacted by phone last week and asked for my credit card number....told them I didn't have credit cards...they sent me a packet with legit looking brocuhre and info on a website
http://vsf-usa.org/.....but shecked with my military friends and was given this site to check it our......I believe it to be a scam .....something just didn't feel right because they were pushy and insistant on getting some donation in any amount.............thanks for this opportunity to report this......

- Linda Paramo replies to Eddie| 1 replyit's a scammmmm!!!! I was called and asked for my credit card number for a quicker "gift" to get to the military and their families due to the immediated need due to the economy.....they were upset when I told them I didn't have credit cards and said they would send me and info packet with a legit looking brochure but to be sure and send back my "gift" the same day I get the packet with official looking stationary but cheap envelopes.....and and I checked out the official looking website "vsf-usa.org/".....BUT:
I checked with my military buddies and given this forum and my suspicions were verified.....it's as i sus[ected all along it's a huge scam....no such organization.....they even change the phone number ......our military and their families are being used and violated by this scam....DON'T BE FOOLED..... - Jay replies to ???Yeah, I got a call from them to, and always wonder about an organization who calls for
donations, as there are so many SCAMS out there. The guy who called, had my name,
address, and asked for a donation by credit card. I told him, I don't want to use my credit
card, and to send me a donation envelope instead. I also asked for their website, so that
I could check them out - and after a little research, I found out, that they are simply a
SCAM operation. It's really sad that they would use our troops to get funds, for their own gain.
they are - truly pathetic...when my envelope comes in the mail, it's gonna get trashed. - Jay replies to sue I was scammed I sent a money orderYou shouldn't have to worry about a Money Order, as it does not have your bank account
information on it. - E. WilliamsT also had my exact name and address. They are now using a different number, 1-877-202-9821. A double team operation of a Black male and female. the woman called herself Miracle Tanksley

- rj| 1 replyMy wife received a call from this organization (United States Armed Forces Association) too, asking for donation. They asked how much my wife would donate and that some kind of a brochure would me mailed. She received it, but decided not to make a donation upon reading some posted comments here. I am just curious of how they were able to get our phone number as well as the address.
- ldburb replies to Linda Paramothank you for your scammmmmm!!!! message. I recieved the call for a donation and was a little shocked when the solicitor was set back by the fact that I did not want to use my credit or debit card. My first impression was that an agreement to donate should be sufficient. I think they shoot themselves in the foot when they become obviously annoyed by the "no" response for credit card donations.
- Bob Retired Major replies to found infoThey call themselves a charity however only 20 percent of the money raised goes to support vetrans or troops. The remainder is put the pockets of the Board of Directors I do not see has this can be a Non-Profit.

- noogiesGot a call from united states armed forces association using number 1-877-202-9821. These companies make me sick and give non-profit organizations a bad name and difficult to get donations for valid organizations. They were rude and pushy I wonder how much money the solicitors make off the money they collecT.

- RonDespite repeated requests to remove our phone number, this United States Armed Forces Association continues to call, at least once a day. We don't answer. BBB does not have them accredited. Most of the donations go to their own employees, callers, etc. Phone number used for the past few weeks is: 877-202-9821. They are very persistent. I work too hard for my money to give it to a scammer!

Dear D. Tective (love the nick, btw),
If you were joking or being sarcastic, then including a smiley face or a, "Just kidding!" would have been useful ... But I'm assuming you were *not* joking by the way you wrote "president" in quotation marks -- which looks as if you were given this information during one of these scam calls after asking how you could get off their call list.
Well, I googled the phone number (just like I googled the scam call number), and I see that phone # as the home phone for John Miterko and Kathy Miterko, who are connected with two organizations which absolutely are legitimate. John Miterko is connected with the Vietnam Veterans Association (VVA) and Kathy Miterko with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). The VVA is the only organization my parents donate to (they donate possessions they don't use or need rather than money); I was married in a VFW hall. In other words, I have no doubt whatsoever that the VVA and the VFW are legitimate.
Would you please explain why you are suggesting people call this number? Where did you find it connected to one or both of the fraudulent "charities" being discussed here ("United States Armed Forces Association" or the "Veterans Support Foundation")?
Without investigating the information you were given by a scammer, *and* without also providing a clear explanation of any link between the Miterko's home phone number and the two fraudulent "charities" being discussed here, your suggestion is very irresponsible. It might even result in criminal or civil charges being pressed against those who call the number you provided -- or even against you. After all, you are suggesting we harass *them* by phone now, and encouraging people to call "late at night" (which can be interpreted to mean a lot of things, including well after midnight).
Furthermore, keeping in mind that the VVA and the VFW are legitimate charities which are very much in need of donations, consider the effect on them if a bunch of people ask to be removed from their call list because you didn't fully check out the information you were given by a scammer.
hlo - duckhuntrGo to the Veterans Support Foundation website. This is a legit charity with over 81% of revenue going to it's program services
