They are still at it, using phone number 1-877-203-4163.  They contacted me on 8-31-11  and sent a pledge card.  When I didn't send it back, they started calling and getting really pushy.  I just got around to checking them out and found this site.  Thanks to all the people that left notes.  My pledge card is going in the garbage.

I received a call from this number and the man making the call talked very fast and I could not understand the name of the organization.  When I asked him to repeat it, he gain spoke very fast.  Told me I could make a donation using my credit or debit card, "so that your gift will start working right away".  He seemed upset when I told him I didn't do donations with credit cards.  A woman got on line and said she was a supervisor and wouldn't I like to use my card.  This call was supposed to be to provide holiday packages to our overseas troops.  What really was suspicious, was that they were using my daughters name and she hasn't had our phone number for at least ten years.

It sure is a scam - I offered to donate $50 about 2 months ago and they sent me a letter with a return envelope. Well as life happens I wasn't able to send it off right away. Well they started calling non-stop - my husband said they were calling everyday for about two weeks. I told a young guy on the phone about 3 weeks ago to stop calling that I would send the money when I received my money from the government - now when I say check from the government I mean a check to reimburse me for college tuition I have been paying on my son's college tuition - the Army was to pay my son for joining the Army back in 2007. My son died in 2010 after serving 15 months in Afghanistan - well they started calling again this week - I finally got to talk them and explained that I am all for supporting the military etc., especially since my son proudly served and died - well guess what they lady said "well would you like to put it on a credit card so that you'll stop getting the phone calls" - I proudly said "well how about you take me off your donation list and hung up. Do not - I REPEAT do not have anything to do with this organization - it is definitely a scam for money.

Received call this AM.  When solicitor made his spill, I explained that my grandson had just returned from Iraq last week; and, how we had sent packages to him and his comrades during his tour.  The caller then accused me of only being loyal to my grandson.  His tone was very accusing; which was an affront to me and my family.  My father was a career army officer serving in both WWII and Korea and a brother who is a navy veteran.  When I started asking questions, he hung up.  Tried e-mailing link to complain about the call.  E-mail came back--no such address.  Definitely a scam..  Not for benefit of our troops.

I also want to thank you for your service. I am a disabled Vietnam Vet, and was about to send a check to these people, but after reading what you had to say about them, (NOT NOW).

It discust me to see so many organizations, and so-called organizations making money off of Veterans sweat/tears, and blood.  Even some Vet organizations have large staff payrolls, etc.

God bless you, and thanks for the heads-up.

Same people called here and hubby answered the phone (I swear he will talk to anyone that calls)!  Afterwards (I knew it was some solicitation just from hubby standing there listening to the caller).  Since hubby is a veteran, they kinda hooked him in though thankfully, he didn't give any cc info and asked for information to be mailed to him.  They called again to ask if he received literature and I said yes but did not say anything further since I had yet to look over the material and do an internet search for the charity.

I told hubby I was going to check them out before he gave them a dime, so naturally I found this place with various comments regarding them using only 20% of donations towards veterans and troops.  So naturally they are not getting one thin dime from us and I am tacking the info right next to the phone so husband clearly sees it for the next time they call.

Thanks for your post.  Our solider spent a year in Walter Reed and another year learning to walk and talk and return to civilian life.  I  had never hard of this organization.  When they called me I asked questions - kept getting transfered from one person to another - no one could answer how long they had been in operation or provide me with their Federal ID to verify they are a charitable organization, etc.

For those who might read this...here are who have helped us.  Wounded Warrior Project.  Sew-Much-Comfort.  Local American Legion and local VFW.  Our local church and community.

Anyone can create a website.  Anyone can be nice and friendly on the phone.  That does not make their legitimate or legal.  Any reputable and charitable cause would not be descrete of their whereabouts, their Federal Tax number (FEIN), how they help Veterans, how the connect with returning soldiers with injuries, etc.

Sad that folks find ways to set up things like this, pay themselves a lot of money and little goes to the real need or cause.  Bet the President has several homes, driving fancy cars, going on exotic trips and the guy who lost limbs, has lost his job, lost his ability to play with his children, etc.

I mentioned Wounded Warrior Project and Sew-Much Comfort.  My son arrived at Walter Reed on a med-vac, on a stretcher, hooked to life support, in a coma.  He was naked,. His personal belongings were in storage 15 hours away where he lived when deployed.  His military belongings were in Afghanistan.  WWP provided him with some basic needs and some funds to obtain shoes, socks, underwear etc. when he was able and wake.   SMC is a great private chairty who comes to WR about twice a week.  They remake new clothing for specific needs of the soldier.  They are absolutely wonderful.  They open seams, alter items, etc. to be able to find over cast, braces, prostetic limbs, healing amputations, etc.  They make the soldier clothes that look like regular clothing...amazing work.

When in doubt, help these groups or help your local VFW, American Legion or go visit the VA home close to you - there is one nearby.  You will know where your money went and you will have names and smiles on their faces to go along with your contribution to our much deserved Veterans.
