I received a call from the number 224-236-3564, agent named Melissa.  Regarding a sudden change in status of my student loans and said it was an urgent matter.  She advised she extended "the date" to Friday.  And gave me a callback number of 1-866-861-5070.  Obviously not legit.  Dept. of Ed loan payments have been suspended due to COVID.  There no changes at this time.

I just got the same call from a Melissa, agent number 0136 from 1-866-861-5070. She left a message on on my answering machine saying something was urgent about my student loan and she could extend the time for me to reply until Friday.  My student loaned was waived earlier this year. I went ahead and called the number and a man answered. He asked if my loan was $10,000 or more? I replied that my loan was waived and asked what this was about. He promptly said he would take me off their call list and hung up.  He never said what company he was with. Definitely a scammer.  Shame on these people in the wake of the covid pandemic we are in and  the financial struggles a lot of us are suffering right now. I hope reporting it here helps and these shameful people are caught.

I received the same call from Melissa and received many calls from her with a reference number. I’m glad people are writing in about this. I figured it was a scam since I do not have an student loans but there’s so much identity theft in the world that it’s been in the back of my mind.  But now I am assured this must be a scam. I have had so many kinds of scam calls and when they are relevant to your situation it can be scary and you can be easily tricked into their scam. They often have some of your real information; including name, address, last 4 of social, etc. And they will ask you to verify information usually in order to tell you what information they are trying to scam you about. It’s always trying to get your money. SO... IF YOU ACTUALLY HAVE STUDENT LOANS DO NOT CALL OR ANSWER OR CALL BACK anyone that you do not know for sure is handling your loans.  Melissa is suggesting she is overseeing your loans and Melissa is lying:) If you answer accidentally, Never say yes on the call to anything. Even saying yes when asked is your name “......“ Can be twisted into saying yes for any service they are promoting or even worse stealing.  I don’t know the extent of this scam but there are some nasty ones that are tricking people more easily because they have upped their game.  I wish there was more control over the ability for people to get your phone number these days. But Be safe and Good luck!

I've gotten numerous calls and assumed thdy were valid bc I am disabled and haven't followed through my reinstating my loan forgiveness. I was explaining to guy why i hadn't returned calls sooner due to having 3 brain surgeries since last Oct and dude literally hung up on me and then I heard a recorded message that my request to be removed from call list was granted and I'd never be contacted again by them. Sketchy stuff for sure. I'm so glad I gave zero personal info.

Almost one year later, from the previous messages in 2020. Same recording for me, "Melissa" calling about urgent changes in our student loan account. It went to our recording machine and I deleted it after reading comments here. Thanks very helping each other!
