- DC replies to Tamara L.A) never return a call to a voicemail message at the number they gave and give them your card number and other info. Always, *call the number on the back of your card!* That said...
B) _this call seems legit._
I missed a payment on my CapOne card, and it went over its limit. They'd be right to call me. Still, it was odd they called my work number, not my home or cell.
So, to be sure, I *called the number on the back of the card* and asked them if it was legit. They said, yes, it was, and they did try to contact me.
Card paid. All is well. - TLI have gotten recorded messages from "Linda" at Capital one for weeks now! I called back today and as everyone else posted they ask for my 16 digit card number! I told her I wanted my number taken off their calling list and I was told my number is not in their system.
THIS IS NOT CAPITAL ONE!! - Suzy replies to Tamara L.I just received that call from Linda today. There are two of us in the household with Capital One accounts. I called the number, it sounded like a busy call center, but the lady asked for my cc number. I told her that it is not the number on the back of my card so I would go online and figure it out. Turns out there is nothing wrong with our accounts and the customer service person told me to only call the number on the back of the card. I knew it was a scam! Same thing, told me to call today regarding business.
- CiCiThese people call DAILY and sometimes two/three times a day. I'm on the Federal Do Not Call List, but that is apparently only for law-abiding telemarketers as scammers pay it no heed.
I've reported it several times to the FCC, but again, nothing is done about it.
This problem has been going on since January!
I have the exact same problem as another commenter: "Robocall left on my machine: "Hi this is Linda. We would like to discuss solutions regarding an important business matter with Capital One. Please call us back today at 1-866-953-7906 to discuss it further. Again the number is 1-866-953-7906. Thank you." Contacted capital one and they said if 866-953-7906 isn't on their website contact pages, then it's not a capital one number. Couldn't find 866-953-7906 on capitalone.com so this is a scam call. I think this scam works on you believing you've been called by the real capital one (and you have not), you call 866-953-7906 back (and you should not), they ask you for an account number to look up what the important business matter is all about, then they ask you for personal info to verify that you are the legit owner of the account number you just gave them. Don't fall for it or the scammers will steal your money and possibly your ID."
DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE BACK, THEY ARE SCAMMERS!- Caller: CAPITAL ONE

Didn't answer.
They left a long garbled message. Can't understand it. - crazymom123Got a call from Linda. Came from a1- 800-955-6600. They left a message and asked me to call back at 1-866-953-7906.
I have an account but will not call back. My accounts are in good standing and there is no reason to give them the time of day. I do think I will call the Capital One and let them know about this.- Caller: Said Capitol One
- Call type: Debt collector
- BMHThis IS a legitimate Capital One call. If you have doubts, then just call the number on the back of your card.

- RRNReceived a VM saying her name was Linda and I was to call 1-866-953-7906. The number came from 1-800-955-6600. When I call back, I don't get Linda! They want my CC number....I don't trust it.
- Caller: "Capital One"
- TMultiple calls continue from this number despite accounts current. Glad I checked it out here first.
- Mills Connelly| 1 replyFor those saying this is a scam, it is not.
After receiving these calls for several days, I called the number on the back of my Capital One card. The representative I reached did not recognize the number, but did offer to call it. I let her. After a minute or two, she came back and said that the number was legitimate, and was from the Collections department. She had a representative on the line, and offered to conference her in. The issue was that I had missed my last payment on my card, and since I normally make my payments on time, they were calling to make sure I knew I'd missed the payment and to make sure everything was ok.
So, to summarize, this was a completely legitimate message from a company I actually do business with. In other words, the complete opposite of a scam.- Caller: Capital One
- TomThey call everyday. I don't answer but I would like it to stop.
- Brian| 2 repliesTo shed some light on this first Linda is the automated system at Capital One. The number is a legit callback number for Capital One (866 953 7906). The issue is whenever Linda calls Linda doesn't "know" why. It is a scheduled call from Capital One to discuss various "business" issues: credit increase, credit lowering, different credit card (switch from say platinum to quicksilver) etc.

- anonymous replies to Mills ConnellyRe. "The representative I reached did not recognize the number", the rep I reached said if 866-953-7906 is not on their website capitalone.com, then it is not a capitalone number. I looked through several capitalone.com contact webpages and 866-953-7906 is not on them. Therefore 866-953-7906 is a scam and Linda is luring capitalone customers to call a scam number. If you call, the scammers will pretend to be capitalone reps and dig banking and personal info out of you and steal your money and perhaps your ID. The scam is called vishing which is short for voice-phishing (google it to learn more).
- anonymous replies to Brian| 1 replyThen people should call the number on the back of their capitalone card -- this is what card companies tell customers to do. You should never call an unpublished/unverified number like 866-953-7906 that a stranger like Linda from fake-capitalone gives you. You should also never trust CallerID because criminals can fake the number they are calling from (google "spoofing" to learn more). 866-953-7906 is not listed on capitalone.com as a contact number so it must be treated as a scam number.
- StaceyThis number 866-953-7906 calls the company I work for at least 2x a day. It states, Hello, this is Linda calling from Capital One, we need you to return this call for an urgent matter with your account. Sometimes It states it's for collections, and sometimes it just an urgent matter. So annoying!
- Caller: Capital One
- mrtravel@gmail.com replies to anonymousIf it is a legitimate call, why don't they just give a normal CapOne number?
Then the normal CapOne rep can see who wants to contact you and forward your call to them.
I am not convinced it isn't a scam.
I would expect them to be able to look up my phone number and tell me why they called, without me providing my account information. Surely Collections should be able to match my phone number to an account. - CatThis number calls my place of business multiple times per week and leaves voicemails on the weekends when we are not open. It is always the same recording so I called the number back and the person asked for my name, 16 digit card number as well as my social security number. I informed her that under no circumstances should anyone ask that information over the phone. I also explained that the actual creditor- Capital One, would already have that information and if they did not then they most certainly would not ask for me to state it over the telephone. She said that the reason for the call actually requires that information. SCAM!
I asked to be removed from their call list.
Be careful people!!!!!!- Caller: "Capital One"
- jackSame as the others. Called them back and got someone on the line and i said quess what time it is? "SCAMMER TIME"
