Also report them to the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs:

Probably the most important thing to remember when you receive a call from a "zombie" debt collector is to STAY OFF THE PHONE!

Like the Forbes article states, "zombie" debt collectors mission in life is to coerce you into admitting that you "own" the debt, so they can reage it.

    HANG UP THE PHONE!

    Go to this this link:

http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/statue-limitations.html and check the SOL (Statue of Limititations) for the enforcement of collection of debts in your State.

Then, send them this "drop dead" letter VIA certified mail and request a return receipt:

    Today's Date

    Your Name
    Your Address

    Collector's Name
    Collector's Address

    VIA CERTIFIED MAIL

RE: [insert account number or name of account or name of debt]:

Dear [insert collector's name or company name],

This letter is in response to your [letter dated xx-xx-2005] (copy enclosed) or [phone call on xx-xx-2005], concerning the collection of the above referenced [account or date].

I do not believe I owe what you say I owe therefore I dispute this debt. I am well aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and my state laws so I hope to save both of us a great deal of time by letting you know that not only do I dispute the validity of this debt, I have also checked with my State Attorney General and verified that the Statute of Limitations for enforcing this type of debt through the courts in (insert your state or the state in which the contract was signed) has expired. Therefore, should you decide to pursue this matter in court I intend to inform the court of my dispute of this debt and that the "statute of limitations" has expired.

This letter is your formal notification that I consider this matter closed and demand that you, or anyone affiliated with your company, stop contacting me regarding this or any other matter except to advise me that your debt collection efforts are being terminated or that you or the creditor are taking specific actions allowed by the FDCPA or my state laws.

Be advised that I consider any contact not in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act a serious violation of the law and will immediately report any violations to my State Attorney General, to the Federal Trade Commission and, if necessary, take whatever legal action is necessary to protect myself. Be advised that I tape record all phone calls and violations of the FDCPA can result in you or your company being personally fined up to $1,000 per incident.

    (Sign above name)
    Printed Name

    http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/Disputing ... ute-letter.html

Be aware that they may attempt to report UNVALIDATED and BOGUS debts after they receive this letter as a charge-off to the IRS on form 1099-C at tax time. This is ILLEGAL!

I have received several messages from this company stating that they will be filing civil law suit in my county against me if I do not respond in 48 hours or have my legal representation contact them.  The gentleman that continues to call ends with "good luck" very unprofessional. He also says he is an investigator for Legal Action Recovery. I just googled the number and found these statements.  I have also had my credit report pulled and there is nothing on my credit, nor have I received anything in writing telling me about the so called judgement.  I will continue to post what I find out and also read these statements to find out how to get these people to stop calling and harrassing me.  I did answer a few months ago and told them to no longer call me at this number, that seemed to work for 3 months.

Yup I too just got a call.  They actually called my sister and got her to give them my cell phone claiming to have a federal investigator on the phone.  Not 2 mins later they left me a message on my cell.  I called back and got some SO CALLED Investigator who claimed I had a debt from 12 years ago and was being filed in my county court and they wanted to reach out to me for payment.   I played along go some other guy who is the collections dept. He claims the 6k debt(which no longer exists) can be paid in the amount of 2,500.   He said I will connect you and you can make payment now.  I told him he was crazy and I would not do such a thing.   He told me I was negative!   I told him if you can't email or send me any information I have nothing to do with this situation.  BEWARE they are scammerssss

Three people I know were called asking to get emergency messages to me.  My oldest daughters' mother-in-law was told there was a complaint filed against me in Georgia and that I was going to be picked up, put in jail in Georgia, and sued.  I talked to a man who identified himself as Mr. Johnson and he told me my son and I were going to be supeaoned to go to court in Arizona.  I was not called personally.  My son was called, my daughter was called, and  another daughters mother-in-law was called.  We were told this has to do with a credit card taken out in 1999 with my name and my son's ss number.

My parents and my sister received calls from Noelle Lucas with Legal Action Recovery just today. This woman told my father and sister (in two separate calls) that there was a civil lawsuit filed against my husband. My sister ignored the call but my father, being the honest man that he is, gave her my husbands cell number. I was mortified that these people had called my FATHER!!! Several months back, my husband received a similar call. When he called back to find out what it was all about, he was told that if he did not pay the amount owed the sherriff would come to our home for him. The person on the phone was extremely rude and threatening. The man on the phone offered to connect him with someone who could take his payment over the phone right then. This man could not give my husband any concrete info about the "debt" My husbacn told them there was no way that he would give them any personal info over the phone without something in writing from them. The man on the line then became very ugy and told my husband to wear his best suit to court!!  When I heard about the calls again today to my family I decided to look up this company to see if I could figure out what was going on and that is when I found four pages of complaints from people just like me who had been contacted by these crooks!  Thank you for all fo these comments that have enlightened me and my family about this scam.  I will definitely report this to the FTC as many of you have suggested!

Some guy from this number called my SISTER who he had apparently managed to find on Facebook and told her to relay a message to me that I was being sued in a county here in my home state of Florida in which I have never lived or done any kind of business.  Just by luck, I decided to look up the phone number and I just googled it and... voila!  I knew it had to be a scam as one must be served notice in writing for lawsuits.

I think we all need to come together a get a "serious criminal case on them" I think i might just call them and act like i calling from the BBB and tell them we have recived complaints aginst them and there is a law sute pending for impersination.

Caller said her name was Noel and that she was an investigator and was going to be serving us with a warrant for our arrest for some civil lawsuit.  We have not been involved in a civil lawsuit. Told the caller that I knew they were a fraud and that I was reporting them to the FBI. She then hung up on me.

I just had the same thing happen to me over the weekend!! Old debt from '98...i remember having this cc back then. We declared chpt 11 in '03. but, they said I was due to be summoned the coming week and felony charges for fraud were going to charged on me! I was so upset and just wanted to clear this up. I set up payment arrangements and they said it is a legal binding contract. Now, I'm reading this and I think I will be contacting an attorney!! For my state, the statute of limitations on credit cards is 6 yrs. I just found this out today!

THis is the same person that contact me as well!!!! Did the EXACT same thing for a debt owed more than 10 yrs ago!! When I heard criminal felony charges ..I freaked!!! I set a payment plan..gave them all my info!! THEN found this site and all the complaints. I have closed all bank accounts and will have an identity alert put on my SS# and credit.WHat a fricken nightmare! I also found out that a cc company cannot sue you for debt over 6 yrs. Mine is about 11 yrs old! THis is WRONG...they shouldn't be able to bully people like this

They called my sister in laws father who had no idea who i was. They used my sister in laws maiden name when speaking to him. Told him that i had listed her as a personal reference on a debt and that they needed to get in touch with me. He in turn called my sister in law. She called the number to find out why they were calling her dad about me. They refused to give her any information. I called the number. When the guy answered the phone he never identified himself or the company. I asked for the extension given and he never transfered me just asked how he could help me.I gave them the case number but they were unable to find the case. Go figure. They told me I was being uncooperative and that they would serve me with papers at home or work. Seems to me if you knew where i worked or lived i would have received information via the mail. The next day they called my sister in law at her job and asked for me. She told them it was her place of employment i didnt work there, that she had goggled the number on line and that she knew all about them. The guy told her to have a nice day and hung up. We havent heard from them since. They havent called my number because i made sure when i called i blocked my cell phone number from their caller id.

I am sooooo happy to read all of these!!  I had a messaage from that number, left on my machine yesterday saying all the same things that you all are saying!!  The caller said she was calling from Harvey Lent (?) associates and when I called the number back it said - legal action recovery.  I left a message, but now that I have read all these posts, I will not respond to them when they call back.  I didn't give them any information other than my name and the "case number" they left on my machine.  It made me so nervous, I could hardly sleep all night.  And then I was just on the phone with my married daughter, and she said her husband also got one of these calls yesterday!  This is terrible!!!  Scaring everyone with no validity!!  How can we get these people reported???

A representative form this company called my parents home. Explained to my Father that the company was trying to contact me.  After my Father inquired on the nature of the call, the representative explained it was urgent and if I did not return their call, a warrant would be issued for my arrest.  My Father then wrote down the telephone number, extention and case number then telephoned me. While speaking with my Father, I googled the number and low and behold I found these previous messages.  I read them to him just to ease his mind.  I also called a friend who work in the judical system of the state they said the case number was for and the case number was not valid.  I then had a relative with a legal background call this number a present himself as a legal representative for me.  Lets just say, they will not be contacting my family, me or anyone who may be my family.  Remember, the same way they called you misrepresenting themselves, call back and present yourself as a legal representative.  Tell them if they would like to contact the person, they would need to forward certified verification information to the address on file, Or you would be pressing charges against the company.  Remember if you do call back, block your number, *67 wait for dail tone then your number        Ex. *67(dail Tone)1-999-999-9999.  I apologize for the lengthy message but like my title reads, (Mad as Hell)
