that's pretty stupid of you. a "telecommunications harassment charge"?? really? how about doing something as simple as returning the call to find out if they're even looking for you in the first place. if it's a mistake the number gets removed by any company. dont act as stupid as you sound.

i've been browsing through some posts here and wonder; is filing complaints and contacting the AG the only answer? Is doing so ultimately going to extinguish your debt? doubtful, but an effort nonetheless. For my own curiosity, would you really have paid the debt in its entirety had you agreed to the amount due? Or would there be another underlying issue causing it to be set aside even further? I'm fairly sure you agree that you do in fact owe... something.. correct? but what about fees, interest, agency fees, etc.. does that not come to mind? Do you firmly believe that what you originally owed from the get-go is all you would re-pay when all is said and done? No, unfortunately delinquent bills and prior debts do continuously carry an interest rate, a rate more commonly higher than what was initially entered into. consider that in the future when you do finally decide to recitfy prior financial issues. For reference there is no intent on a personal attack here, I simply had a thought and wanted to share it. I will also add that the amount you were quoted by this agency does seem a bit ludicrous, but to reiterate what i said, there is probably more involved than you may agree to.

No, an Attorney General's office can't do anything about the debt itself.  If the debt exists, it does have to be paid (though in return for quick payment, many debt collectors will waive interest that has built up).
An AG's office can only ensure that the debt collectors are proceeding with their business legally, not misrepresenting themselves or using illegal threats or scare tactics when they try to collect on debt.  Nothing will make the business of debt collection pleasant for anyone, but it can at least be conducted lawfully.  I know from experience that Tri-Fi does NOT always proceed legally or use legal tactics.

You are correct on some issues and your thoughts are duly noted, but with the economy the way it is. misrepresenting the amt of the debt and then speaking to someone in a condescending manner and threatening them with license suspensions and that type of thing is ludicrous. I have spoken with my family attorney and was adviswd to forward any future calls to him. I also don't feel that a 300.00 debt should spiral up to 2200 dollars, the payday loan company has already reported me to checksystems and they appear on my credit. This company purchased my debt for pennies on the dollar and state I need to come up with at least 1294 in 11 days, that's impossible. That is my salary for an entire month. They wouldn't even let me make arrangements. The original debtor was easier to work with. I feel, I'm bring victimized. i know I may owe something but that amt is ludicrous and not obtainable. I takes me almost two months to make 2200.

Also not to evade your qts. I was willing to make the payment of the amt due on this Fri. The company rejected my offer and would not allow me to make arrangements, which I recorded. I also explained that info regarding the loan had been misrepresented and I received no loan docs. Until after I accepted. They were still uncooperative. So how are they helping me to resolve my issue.

From everything that I have found out about them. The outstanding bills that they try to collect on are over 8 years old after 7 it is suppose to be removed from your CR. Beware though they call any and every number they can find for you even your work number.

I spoke with Jeremy also. He asked if i wanted to clear up my debt, of course I said yes. The original debt is $255.00 he said I now owed 1200.00 dollars and going forward the amount would go up $75.00 every two weeks until it was paid.  I'm sorry, but that is BS.  I will gladly pay the $255.00 but I am NOT, nor can I afford 1200.00 or more.  He has called my office on several occasions asking for our office manager - she knows all about this and has nothing to say to the man as he has in the past been rude and abusive to our receptionist on the telephone after she tells him that our company does not allow calls of this kind and no one will speak with him. I have an attorney who is suing them for unethical collection practices in regard to the law.

Always getting this call from Peter Stanton of Tri Finanacial and leaving a message " We have made several attemps to contact you with no results. This will be our final attemp to resolve the matter that was placed in our office..and so on and so on...". This has been going on for a year now and do not quite understand the meaning of FINAL when he says it.  They are trying to collect from my old bank Washington Mutual bill 15 years ago and the bank does not exist anymore. I just ignore it and laugh about it. I dare them to try their scare tactics on me!! They do not have a stool to stand on. One thing to say "time barred debts"

I've also had seven calls since 12/15/08 from this jerk Peter (I thought he said Stanwell), all went to voice-mail. Early in the message, a mechanical sounding voice gives the name "R... S....", which is nothing like my name. Possibly R. S. had my number before I got this cell phone two years ago; or   Peter is blind dialing. And each call says it's the FINAL attempt, as WAMU noted.

I kept getting robo-calls for Jimmy Hampton. I called and spoke with a rep who told me my name would be removed from their system. Not a half hour later I received another robo-call. I called back and talked with a rep who asked, "Did I tell you there's a ten dollar charge for removing your number? I was just kidding around."
I told him I'd been told my number had been removed. He said it had but because it was in their automated dialer, I'd received another call. I was told I could stop the calls if I talked to the person who gave them my phone number. I was told "You're full of yourself."

    sickened by slime
These people are slime.  They have no morals or integrity.  People don't pay their bills because hello they arent working or have had trouble times. These people "choose" to be the slime of the earth.

Please!!!!!! Go ahead and do the right thing.  Instead of just complaining on this site, report the illegal collection tactics to the Federal Trade Commission, your state Attorney Generals office and the Buffalo Ny Attorney Generals office.

Ok, you might owe the money or in most of these cases you don't, but that doesn't excuse these these people for breaking the law.

I never once have received any piece of paper that shows me any debt I owe, a correspondence or anything valid from this company.  I have received continual "final notice" calls from them everyday since October of last year.  Same message every day. With Third party disclosure laws broken on every call by leaving a message completely explaining the call their name and it is their final attempt.  Keep all of the answering machine messages they leave you and tell them if you talk to them that you are tape recording the call and do so.

If you don't place a complaint they will continue to get away with breaking the law and manacing.

If everyone that placed a complaint on this page would place a complaint with the FTC and the Attorney generals office they would have the heat on them for a change and they might not be able to practice business again or have a class action law suit and have to pay millions of dollars out to the people that they have threatened unlawfully.

Federal Trade Commission Consumer Complaint line:   877-382-4357

Additionally the FTC told me to certify mail to this company a letter stating to Cease and Desist any contact with me in the future, any of my relatives or my workplace.

let me know if you sue them, I have kept every answering machine message from them with their TP disclosure with final attempt in collecting a debt.  See if there is a way to do class action because then we can contact all of these people on this site and see if we can all place the class action law suit against them.  They called my mom today and was fishing for information.  I have no idea why they are calling I haven't even received anything from anyone, other than these phone calls, saying that I owe anything to anyone past due. I placed complaint with the FTC today.  We have to be able to come after this company for harassment.  Once you give someone one of these messages that say final attempt in regard to this matter, that is giving you a deadline and without followup action it is a threat with intent to menace or harass.  They break so many laws.  Let me know.

These people call me all the time. As with any unknown 800 number, I run a quick check on it if near my laptop before answering. Answering unknown toll free numbers is for suckers. And it's irrelevant if you have any outstanding debt or not, slimy places like are just looking for ANYONE to give them money.

As of now I've gotten at least 20 "this is our last attempt to contact you" phone calls, heh. Given what I've read about Tri-Financial at Bud Hibbs and here I won't be calling them back soon.

Once again someone is trying to scare my 84 year old mother who has always paid her bills on time and still does.  These calls are more than annoying as she believes she owes somebody something and I know they are scams but can't totally convince her.  Thank God she checks with me before she says anything to these creeps.
