- RGHMy sister just received a call from Financial Management System. The lady who phoned was named Michelle Concepcion and her number in (877) 291-8405 ext. 8570. She did tell me there were many numbers and didn't know which she was calling. they were looking for an ex in law... my sister was asking how did you end up contacting me and the lady said we just picked a no. She said this ex in law had emailed information on help with its education. but this ex inlaw no longer lives.. so why would they be calling someone that never gave their no. to anyone.
- Jim replies to FMS EMP| 5 repliesIf this agency IS legit, and you have worked for them, then why didn't you post your name at the top of your comment? Give me a number to another federal agency that I can call and verify the information. It is that simple. If you can't do even that then there is sufficient reason to doubt any of it.

- Teemy mother received a call from this number 877-291-8405..... this is a authorized student loan collector with the dept of education. they help to lower or eliminate, consolidate your loan. this article shows the authorized agencies as listed http://articlesforme.info/government-student-uncollectable.htm
https://www.myeddebt.com/borrower/myoptions_collectionAgencies
if you don't have a student loan you might of been listed as contact to the person who signed the loan but they must verify your information or the persons information they are trying to get a hold of before they can proceed according to their rules... Its a legit call. I'm just passing the info i found researching . If you don't have a loan i would suggest you get ahold of the agency either by phone or mail to stop the inquiries.

- Martha| 2 repliesIt appears there are some trolls for this company monitoring this website to spread false information. This phone number may be associated with a collections agency, but they are clearly acting illegally. I do not have any government loans in default (or for that matter any loans or debts of any kind in collections) and my one Sallie Mae loan is on auto-pay and completely up to date. Yet, this company keeps calling. I have not cosigned on any loans either. My credit reports confirm that information and a good record (along with an excellent credit score). Any and call calls (and there have been many) are therefore simply harassment or an attempt to convince me to pay money on a debt that doesn't exist. I've had this happen before, a collections company kept calling my phone number telling me that someone named Maritza owed money, and when I informed them that anyone by that name did not reside with me and the number had been mind along for 5 years at that point, they started telling me that *I* was responsible for the debt and threatening me. There are lots of stories about this kind of scam and people who have fallen for it. I don't even pick up my landline now - just let it go to the machine and any legit company will leave a message and I'll call them back on a verified number I already have on file.

- Tred replies to MarthaMartha, you are dealing with a predatory, abusive, and exploitative debt collector. They are not following state or federal consumer protection laws. It's your responsibility to send a cease and desist showing these cowards that you understand your rights. Send a cease and desist through their BBB in the form of a complaint against these predators. You can also copy and paste your complaint and send to all state and federal consumer protection agencies. Their BS excuses of wrong number, wrong name, or whatever is just to continue the abuse. Your number is associated or affiliated or an alternate contact number with some debtor. They will not stop until you send a cease and desist! http://www.bbb.org/chicago/business-reviews/c ... urg-il-88484655 This thread shows another student loan debt collector with similar tactics but has some reference links under Tamianth's post. https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-292-8590/2
- WolfmanJack replies to MarthaYour best bet is to go here: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/. While there you are going to do three things. You are going to educate yourself on your rights as a debtor. You are going to file a complaint against this company. You are going to download the form letters they have provided, specifically to be sent to debt collection agencies. You then going to pick out the one best suited to your situation, replace the generic information with your own and send it US Mail, Certified, Return Receipt. Once you get that little green card back, if they call you again, then you have grounds to sue them which will cost you nothing.
Some further information to assist you. They have a contract with the Dept. of Ed to collect on debts. Here is the contract: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sites/default/files ... aseContract.pdf
They seem to have several address, and several registered agents. Registered agents are supposed to accept legal documents for the corporation:

Pleas read the CFPB website and learn how to handle these cretins. http://www.fraud.org/ - Karen ScottI just got a call from Leo Gaerke with FMS - he did not identify himself other than by name and told me he was calling to verify reference for someone. He gave me a name, I know THREE people with that name, they are father, son and grandson - so once I determined who he was talking about, he asked me for their phone number, address and place of employment. I did not have any of that info, so he then asked ME to give HIS INFO to the party he called me about and left his phone number. 1-877-291-8405 - although my caller ID shows a local phone number, which I tried to all back only to find it's a dummy number. In short, I called this guy out on his lie and he still continued to talk. I just hung up - so for those of you claiming this is a "legit" business - give me a friggin break!! The person he called me about is the son of my ex-husband. There is NO RELATIONSHIP here and the fact that he called ME at MY BUSINESS simply proves this is a bunch of BULL and makes me ANGRY that the LIAR who called me even has access to my phone number not to mention that they really had to dig deep to find any connection at all between me and the person they called about. LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR!!!! I hope they call me back......I'm not done yet

- Denise KnuppThey called 10/28/2014. Said I was listed as a relative of my son. Asked for his number, but I said "What is this about, if it's about his school loans we pay those." He said "Oh no, nothing like that. " I said" Well, give me your number and I will have him call you back, because I will not give you his number." He then wanted me to verify some information and started giving and address where he has never lived, so I hung up.
while calling my son the house phone rang and it was the same person and asked for me again but would not tell him what it was about. He told me that it had some thing to do with his education but did not say what.- Caller: said his Name was Eli Campbell
- FMS EMP replies to Jim| 4 replies1-800-621-3115. Department of Education can verify all agencies who are contracted with them.
To everyone else on this page, if you are truly bothered by calls like this, you need to do something about it instead of hanging up hoping they will go away. There is software involved that makes sure they don't unless you give them a valid reason; hanging up on them makes them think they have a good phone number and you are avoiding your dept. So get on a $5/mo. program, return your forms, and start getting your financial life back on track. - FMS EMP replies to Fredrick BrysonA late response, but all payments set up through FMS are debited by the National Payment Center (NPC) or the US DEPT of ED. Not 1 penny of your payment goes directly to FMS itself. You can verify your payments are actually going toward your loan by calling the Dept of Ed: 800 621 3115. (To speak to a rep, press "0" when it asks for your SSN- otherwise your call will get redirected to the servicer of your loan, which in this case would be FMS)
- Dashanz| 2 repliesI got on a repayment plan everything was going fine now they are calling saying that is not enough for a qualifying payment yet they are taking it out every month. Because I don't owe a ton of money they want it all. Borrow from the bank or family or they will garnish my wages. Really. I'm making payments every month on time.

- CWG40 replies to Dashanz| 1 replyThis looks like a scam to me. No one can garnish your wages except a judge and that only after a hearing where you would be given a chance to defend yourself. Do not give them any money. Block their calls and do not return them. This is just an attempt to scare you into paying more money.
Report them: See: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
