I got a call and have been getting collection notices the last one I received was a pay off letter offering to settle for 70% of what I "owed".  I called them back the first time it sounded like a scam wanting me to verify my information so I hungup.  Called the hospital with which I supposedly owed money to and they had no record of me.  I called the collection agency back a few weeks later and this time the lady had my address, last 4 of my social but my birth date was wrong.  She told me to write a dispute letter and they would have to investigate.  Obviously they have the wrong person but it disturbs me that part of the information they do have is correct.  Not sure what is going on but before it affects my credit I'm filing a dispute as should anyone that receives calls/mail like this.

    Keep calling
Do they honestly want to keep crank calling a person who was arrested for being involved in a double homicide in 1989? I mean you tell me... what do they expect to possibly go wrong? Someone to show up at their call center with nothing to lose or to tail one of their employee's home?

Shouldn't be calling my house. Don't have any outstanding medical bills. In fact, haven't been to a hospital since I was hit with a bat to my head during my teens in the early 90's and that was covered by Champus - an insurance company that provided medical coverage to Military families. So they need to try to scam elsewhere.

They called me and the first thing they asked was for my mailing address for a personal matter. I told them I was not giving out any information until I verified who they were and what this was about. He said he could not continue the call and hung up.

Well, for over 1 year I owed $700 to a hospital, Since I missed the call from this 877 number, I decided to return the call and check what "they" want... They knew my personal information including my birth date, and how much I own. When they asked about making a payment, I asked what can they offer other than a full 700 bucks payment - they said, if I pay "today" $420, the case will be closed, none of the credit agencies will be involved and the hospital will be contacted. When I decided to do this, I was offered to complete the transaction with a check or credit card - well - a scammer will not offer you a payment by a check... I will contact the hospital billing department in about 1-2 weeks and see if there is no balance - otherwise, I'll call  the credit card company, and dispute it... that's it - if that works, I saved over 30%, if it does not, the credit card company is getting paid to resolve such issues anyway... so I am not worried....

You people who are saying they don't have your info..Guess what? they do. If you can do all this other research try looking up the fact that because it is a debt they have to make sure they are talking to the person who has the debt. They have all your info up on the screen they just have to make sure you are the person they are looking for (ITS A LAW). Go look up debt collection laws and learn something before calling something a scam. If it was really a scam how would they have that info?

Here is a thought look up hippa laws a secondary agency cannot know such details even when they work on behalf of hospitals.you're insurance can give you a eob but would not know about collections if you went to the hospital/doctor you owe what makes that so hard to figure out. When in fact you could resolve the bill after the call in person w the hospital sounds like real scammers are the ones trying too catch a free ride and place all our health care at risk because when debt is to high we lose the most important thing quality reliable healthcare everything has a ripple effect be the cause or the problem remember our future and sleep well my friend.

This could be for doctor visits and yes even the best insurance cost sometimes the problem is people do not know really what there insurance covers or checks before service. You should be responsible get your bill summit it to your insurance company hospitals and doctor do it as a favor on your behalf pay your bills including hospital n doctor at least discuss the matter the men n women that care and whose doors are always open deserve at least that if you didn't get your check from your boss you would be calling own up take a stand n become more proactive in the future but don't jeopardize our health for your lack of care.

Just because one is gone doesn't mean that debt is still not owed. You get upset as someone is personally attacking your mom NO it is to collect the debt that your brother left behind I know it is upsetting but really people say things every day if one is really gone than send the paperwork really if one didn't require it they be fool because people could avoid debt I am sure you did not think of it that way. People need to not follow but look up laws n understand the other side of the call.it is a job to pay bills n feel rewarding when have helped people like yourself out because debt is overwhelming along be thank full for consideration when most business would of placed harder rule of credit and collection it could be worst at least no interest or late fee for such line of credit try that somewhere else.
