This is Wells Fargo.  If you call the number they answer as Wells Fargo and state that this is an attempt to collect a debt.  Thank you to everyone that pitches in in order to figure these out

Actually, it’s not. I went to Wells Fargo after getting multiple calls saying I had an over drafted account, even though I haven’t had one in years with this bank. They confirmed that it was a scam and to ALWAYS call whatever bank they are claiming to be from first. Otherwise I would have paid them a lot of money!

This is Wells Fargo calling from the collections department for overdrawn checking accounts. The calls are for someone else so I have blocked the number. From personal experience at a young age, dont ever let a checking account get closed with a negative balance because you will be reported to ChexSystems and EWS (Early Warning Sings) which will prevent you from opening a new checking account at most banks for next 5 years (California). Even IF you pay off the debt after it’s closed, your name will remain in those agencies reporting systems.

Week,..IF, That's True & Accurate, Why do 2nds companies continue to call ppl after co.s as in Wells Fargo, have charged off their debtors' accts, gotten paid back by their insurance Co, and sold off these debts for literally pennies on the dollar?

That person posted here 6 years ago.  I doubt they will see your question.  Charging off debts does not mean they are not collectable.  The contract can be legally assigned as long as it is not forbidden by the contract terms.  I have never seen a loan, mortgage, or credit card contract that does.

They keep leaving me at least five messages a day, and I'm not exaggerating. They're compiled of complete silence, or the sound of ten people talking at once. Unintelligible garbage.

    Well Actually replies to LMAO
I see that this is old, but I don't have a Wells Fargo account but when I did, I closed it out properly with zero debts. So, for them to be calling me almost 9 years after I switched banks the proper way with no debt to the bank. So it may seem like a legit number, but when they are calling people who haven't dealt with them in years, it's suspect.

    Well Actually replies to J
Well, someone in their collections department is not doing their job. I am getting non-stop calls from them and I have not banked with Wells Fargo since 2009. I closed out my account at a branch. That being said, Wells Fargo has had a lot of suspicious activities recently with accounts being reopened, second accounts being oped, and just accounts generally being opened fraudulently. So, it's important to stay on top of them, to make sure it's legit and not as a result of identity theft. Also, if you look through the replies, they are calling kids as young as 14.
