- GateKeeperDO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO.
No one calls out of the blue to verify information...let alone an overseas call claiming to be a company they are not.
Simply hang up,- Call type: Prank
- NACalled, and hung up once the call was answered.
- kaytyI didn't answer the call I got. The number showed up in my phone log and I researched it. These people are trying to get you to say "yes" to their questions. Then they splice that into some sort of order for merchandise, which they will then bill you for. The place I work has been stung by this twice, despite our explicit instructions to the receptionists about saying "yes" instead of "it is" or something similar in response to such questions from a suspicious-sounding caller.

- Rebecca GVBJust received a phone call AGAIN for this number. Our business is on a do not call list but they continue to call. SO frustrating. Number they called from: 882-014-0105.
- DanaReceived a phone call from this number today from someone with a strong accent (maybe from India?). He said he was with the Oregon Better Business Bureau asking if we had found a new location. I asked why he needed to know and I got suspicious. I said we had already moved and that I didn't know where he was getting his information. He said "oh sorry. have a good day" and hung up. Sketchy.
I called the Better Business Bureau and they did not have any idea who might have called.
I reported the number and am going to block the number on my phone.- Caller: Oregon Better Business Bureau

- LYThey are still calling. Called our office here in Portland, OR just a minute ago. She said the same things that all the other contributors have talked about: claiming to be from the state government, having a foreign accent, asking us about moving. Our local news featured a story about this scam some time in the middle of last year and yet they're still doing it.

It seems this is a continuous problem and they believe these individuals are conducting fishing expeditions. These calls are generated over seas. Best thing to do is hang up and file your complaint.
I just received one of these calls from 882-014-0326. Woman said she was with the Texas Department of Business Development Services. I told her that entity doesn't exist and I asked the woman for her address, telephone number and web address and she became hostile, telling me that I was "just a receptionist" and that I didn't need that information.
I could tell I caught her off guard and made her angry 'cause I wouldn't answer any questions-- she threatened to "report me" and have my business fined for not cooperating.
I've really had enough of these cons and their phone calls.- Caller: 882-014-0326
- Jane from CanadaNot sure where you are located, but we have the same problem here in Alberta, Canada. Someone calling from that number saying they are from the Canadian Business Development Bank or Centre (which they are NOT). They always call and ask where we are located and whether we have already found a place to move to. They people calling (either male or female) are calling from a call centre in the Phillipines. I can tell because they have a Phillipino accent - (I know several Phillipino people so I am really positive about the accent.) Anyway, I believe they have been hired by a commercial real estate company in Canada or the U.S. to phone businesses and see if they can find anyone who is looking for office space to move to. We have been getting these calls every month or two for years now and yes, they are very annoying. Each time I tell them we are not looking for space and ask them to take us off of their list, but it does no good. I even called the Canadian Business Development Bank and verified that it wasn't them, but I don't think they will have a solution to this problem. They said they will pass it on to their security department but I'm not sure they can do anything as the call centre is outside of North America. Anyway, I think next time I will just put them on hold to waste their time. Not sure what else we can do but I'll post again if I come up with anything that works.

- EmployeeThis ring of idiots called and said they were from the California Economic Council and wanted to know if the business was moving. He would not answer any questions as to where they got that kind of information, nor would they give a call back number. They finally hung up in frustration, but immediately called back five times. On the fifth call back somebody else answered the phone and then a woman started to ask for the same information. When she was told that we were not aware of who it was calling, she too hung up. Very suspicious, very likely major trouble if any information is divulged to them.
- shawnGot this call, and when she said "I'm calling from the Province of British Columbia, from the Business Development Office", i quickly googled it, then told her there was no such thing (we have an Economic development board, or something differently titled). Then she hung up. Muhahahaha
- Master BaitBeen receiving calls from the "Business Development Office" over the last few years. I have many phone numbers call forwarded to my phone so the annoyance is multiplied exponentially.
This might be a telemarketing firm that sells leads to Collier's International. I magically started to received local business property availability from Collier's when I initially answered these questions thinking there were in fact governmental in nature.
I'll be testing this the next time I get a call. My contact information will change to "Master Bait" "Vi Gena" "Forni Kate", hey, might as well have some fun with these time wasters! ;-) My business name will change to "Dork Fins Inc." or "Paddle Tales Corporation"- Caller: Business Development Office
- talk bad to the crooks! replies to ChristieTellt the caller to do the most horrible things you can think of to her [***].... she will never call again....
- ThomGot a call from the number 882-014-0326 just a few minutes ago. I felt very uncomfortable with the call when without explaining who she was or where she was from started into asking questions about my business, our location and if we were planning on moving. I stopped her and explained I refuse to provide that information or answer any of her questions. She then proceeded to tell me she was from the State of Michigan Business Development (blah, blah, blah). I questioned the area code she was calling from, she side stepped it and offered the toll free number. Then proceeded with her questions. Finally, I told her again I wouldn't answer any of her questions, she relented and ended the conversation with a polite goodbye. That's when I googled the number. Glad I stuck to my guns on this one. To see the same number posing as so many different organizations and locations. Highly questionable!
- zip zapThey claimed to be from the Chamber of Commerce and wanted to know if we still plan to move. Never said that we ever were planning to move. Number comes up as 'private'. I could only find the number by searching the internet using the words 'chamber of commerce moving'. They call constantly using any of several different names. Person hangs up when confronted with a question after answering 'no we don't plan to move'. But they will stay on the line if you preemptively ask them if they are from the Chamber of Commerce (etc) prior to answering their questions. So if you want to have some fun with them, do it up front. It's probably a good idea to approach these strange calls with caution given the major problems with terrorism and the recent threats for beheadings in the US, threats against Christians world wide including the pope.
