I got the same thing.  I actually had signed up for the service something like fifteen years ago and they discontinued it after a while.  Then, more recently, they started up the service again and started charging me again, all of a sudden, after many years of not charging.

Are you sure this number is related to Discover?  Some girl called and said she had "an opportunity of a lifetime for me" all I had to do was giver her my social and address. Yeeaaa right!  What kind of a scam is this?? I just hung up on her with the quickness

If you have a Discover card, the law says they can call you about any new offers. The Do Not Call list only protects you from UNSOLICITED calls. It is not considered unsolicited if you do business with the company. Also, some companies state (in the fine print) that if you agree to do business with them, you also agree to let them sell your phone number to companies THEY do business with. That's another loophole. Another thing...when you are at an event and they say "Sign up for this drawing! You have an excellent chance of winning a vacation for 4 to (BLAH BLAH BLAH) and there is no obligation to purchase anything!" Right on the back of those cards it says, "By entering this drawing, you are agreeing to be contacted by this company and it's affiliates...BLAH BLAH BLAH. So again, this is not a violation of the Do Not Call list because by not reading the fine print, you have agreed to let them call you. Most companies are not stupid enough to violate the Do Not Call list. Doing so results in pretty big fines. Lastly, a lot of calls come from centers outside of the U.S. They attach themselves to local phone numbers. There is no way for the government to regulate foreign calls. No the law people...and stop running to the phone just because it makes that ringy-dingy noise and these calls won't be such a bother.

I do NOT own a discover card (who does?) nor did I ever receive any opt out mail.  In any event, if I've NEVER done business with Discover, they cant just send mail stating i have to opt out of their calls to get around the do not call list that I'm on.
Just another example of sneaky business practices and blaming the consumer for the fault of the company.  Any business who makes harassing calls to 'potential' customers will NEVER get their business.  Maybe you should pass that message along to your company as I'm sure Im not the only one who feels this way.

They never leave a message or they hang up. I have asked them to stop calling .I wish telemarketers would be banned from any use.

I ignore the calls which is shown to my caller ID is different area code.,They keep calling .........

Caller ID says Toll free Call.
They hang up when I answer.
I have a Discover Card--i will user very infrequently because of this NONSENSE !!!

If this is Discover.... I checked their website and got onto the privacy page and called to opt out.
"Call 1-800-225-5202 — our menu will prompt you through your choices"
Hopefully, the calls will stop, otherwise, it's probably not them.

I called the number back, talked to a customer service representative, and they were actually pretty helpful.  He asked for my name, which I told him I didn't feel comfortable giving him because I couldn't verify if we worked for discover.  He had my phone number (from caller id I guess?).  I said just put this number on your no call list.  He said the name we have for this phone number was "Karen" and I said no.  He apologized and said he would fix it.  He said a lot of people don't trust giving their real number to credit card companies (I don't blame them..), and they make up a number which unfortunately in this case, was mine.

Please stop calling me!!!!!

If Discover wants to call they need to have their Identity on the Caller ID. I Usually Won't answer an UnKnown Caller.

You and Carol can lay down a mile of exclamation points, but it won't change the fact that you need to direct your no-call request to the actual caller, which does not maintain this site or this web page. Your caller is not going to dutifully study random forum complaints and cannot magically determine which numbers should not be called based on anonymous comments.

Then don't sent something that looks like junk mail.
I do have a special mailbox for junkmail, AKA recycle bin. Anything that looks like junk goes in there.

Called ID said 800 Service and I don't answer those.  But they left a msg on my machine reminding me to activate my new Discover cards.   Sounded like it was a pre-recorded message.  I do have new cards that I haven't activated yet, so I think it is legit.

I just spoke with someone in the fraud prevention department at Discover (by calling 1-800-DISCOVER and being transferred over).  She stated that Discover would, first, have their name come up on the caller ID, and second, no matter what reason they had for calling, would never hang up without leaving a message.  She assured me that they have not been calling me or anyone from that number.  Clearly these are phishers.

So good try to the above poster.  Let us guess, you probably need a lot of our personal information in order for us to opt-out on you, right?
