This is just one of many numbers that call us and hang up daily without leaving messages or identifying themselves on caller ID.  Why would anyone ever answer their phone anymore.  I never do.

I got a number of calls from 800-947-5098, this is AT&T cell phone collection for them. I do not have a cell phone with them and it took two days to correct this.and now I am getting calls from this number 888 211 7690 and when I call back it will not answer,   I got this number from AT&T to report nuisance calls 800-769-4099 from them I called this number and talked to Eric and he took care of it for me.

The service was OK. It took only a few minutes for the repair of broken line  but it took 5 days to get it done
And it was impossible to reach a live person. REF.

Same here its an At&t survey. They called 3 times in 5 hours. Its not that important to hound me. Offer a free movie with a number to call & take the survey, might be a better strategy to get customer opinions.

I agree 100% with this.  What's the deal, AT&T doesn't want us to know who they are?  (I just got a similar call and because it didn't show AT&T, I didn't answer it.  They need to get a clue!)

Looks like it was AT&T and, if it had been identified, I would have answered it. Sorry, AT&T ... your service response was GREAT and I'm very, very happy with my U-Verse, but I do NOT answer unidentified callers, which is one reason I have the VOICE component ;-)))

They just called my cell phone!  I set up new U-Verse service with them yesterday and they insisted on having two phone numbers, so I gave them my home phone and my cell phone (hesitantly).  I told them NOT to call my cell phone unless it was absolutely necessary.   I have a Virgin Mobile, pay by the minute, cell phone, for emergency use only.  I just called AT&T and blasted them.  They, supposedly, deleted my cell phone number from my profile.  Boy, I'm MAD.  Idiots!  I guarantee you that my cell is still in their records.  Morons!  And, yes, the caller ID comes up blank - total violation of Federal law.

I couldn't say it any better, Ginger B. I did the same thing. I called to change up my account. I received good service which, to me, should be a given. If they genuinely cared about service they would lower their prices instead of my bill slowly going up every month until I finally had to cancel parts of my service. Anyway, thank you for your post on here.

My machine took such a call. But the only ID left by the "voice" was 211-7690.   Not even the 888.
Worse, though my machine answered, the message repeated 3 or 4 times.  Any good they did just went down the toilet.

I just got a second call from this number, number ID'd, but not the callers name. I answered it this time, only to recieve several seconds of dead air. After my second "hello", I hung up, as I refuse to wait for auto dialers to connect me with a real person, even if it's only a few seconds. I looked up the number on line to find that it's AT&T, most likely looking for feedback on a repair of change of service as others have reported.
    My response is this -
    1.  If yoiu call my house, Identify yourself on my caller ID. I don't answer calls from telemarketers, and I'm not going to answer yours either if you don't identify yourself.
    2.  If you wish to speak with me, have a real human being there on the line the moment I pick up the phone. My time is valuable, and you insult me by calling me and expecting me to wait for someone to come on the line.

888-211-7690 called me a few days after I made some changes to my services with them.  Now I know the number is from them.  I read all the posts and people were upset, and they have all the rights to be upset.  I bet you this is an automated system to perform the survey on the rep that helped you.  The manager of this dept. should be fired because of the doctrine of respondeat superior.  The manager should instruct his/her employees to program the word AT&T for this number but they did not do that.  That shows the service of AT&T.  Other topic: my cell phone is with VZW for over two decades because a lot people I know told me that there are a lot of "drop pockets" if you have the cell phone service with AT&T.
A big company should not hide their name when they call consumers.  That shows AT&T is an "ID-Ten-T"
Write it down on a piece of paper to decode this "ID-Ten-T" in capital letters (hint: the word Ten is IO, you do the rest).

I think you are right. I've had my phone # for years, and switched service to AT&T yesterday and kept the same number. This 888-211-7690 called me but I did not answer. I don't have caller ID, so I *69'd and it was this number. i hope this will not be a recurring problem. I'm worried now about getting hooked to the internet with AT&T. I haven't done that yet.
