- marrs| 1 replyI just got this message from a company called Brennan and Clark...stating that i had to call them back or my lawyer about a case that needs to be settled and that it's in its 11th hour (what that means i have no idea). They gave me a phone number, ext. and case number! Not calling them back!! As what I read on here it is a scam!! And the number that comes up on the caller id isn't the one that they tell me to call back!! (630-359-6125)

- BradfordI got a call from a supposed “Robert Sterlling.” He said, I had a balance of $800.00 from Paychex. My Paychex balance was really $500.00; apparently they add a very hefty fee of $300.00 on which is a lot and illegal againt the federal trade agreement. I stupidly complied and gave my bank account number. They have not at all stuck to their agreement to take out 100.00 every Thursday, till it was paid off. They have on some occasions taken out a lot more than agreed and sometimes did not take it out on the correct day. When you live paycheck to paycheck, this usually makes you go into the negative, snowballing into more fees.
When I called to confront them, they simply apologized. The same man answered the phone, but with a different name, how corny that annoying voice and accent and same sayings is a dead giveaway it was the same man. After confronting them, they gave me attitude and still have been messing up. Apparently the man I talked to was fired. Yeah right. My bank told me they were a real company, but they were operating very fraudgently and were scamming me. I had to close my bank account and am currently looking into a lawsuit. They act like scary big wig lawyers, but they are not. They deserve to be shut down! Don’t give them your information!!- Caller: Brennan & Clark

- Eric replies to BreI've been dealing with George Daniel from this firm for a few months. After this morning's harassing phone call, I finally called the firm that hired them and got them to back him off. He's a classic collection agency shark.

- Chris| 2 repliesThey are a legitimate business. They don't always do things nicely, but are for most businesses what is called a "second placement" agency, which means that whoever is trying to collect this money from you most likely tried to collect it from you nicely but you did not comply. So they place it with a second agency that will push harder and if necessary work within the court system to get you to pay.
Harassing calls are an annoyance, but if you want it to stop, you need to call them back.
Fyi, if they never actually SAY they are a lawyer, they really have broken no laws. If you assume that they are, that is your misunderstanding. This is not to be condescending but if they are playing word games with you, write down what they say and go look it up -- they use "pre-litigation" a lot, which makes them sound like a law firm, but it is what they do since they are usually your last chance before your creditor takes you to court -- which they can and will do on behalf of whomever you may owe. Above all remember to keep a clear head and don't let them rile you. They are here to make you pay what is owed to the creditor trying to collect from you -- so before you get too upset, remember that. They are not "lowlife" debt collectors, there are debt collectors in business because you did not pay your bills, regardless of the reason why.- Caller: Brennan & Clark
- BVNThey spoof themselves to sound like a law firm. Glad to know it's not since the money they're looking for is for a service contract which auto-renewed. Who auto-renews a contract and sleeps at night?? What is this, the 80's??

- cg| 3 repliesI received a voice mail today (Aug 3, 2010) from phone number 888-217-3212 and the message was left by a William Conway who stated he was calling to intercede on his clients behalf and that he would hold the file until end of business day and to reference an 8 digit number. Also the number that appears on my caller id was 630-279-7600 which ends up being the main number. STRANGE!!!!

- aji just looked at this and didnt pay. thanks cause i just got served papers real sweet. i suggest everyone pay or it will cause u way more money
- K replies to ChrisWhile I understand that they are "debt collectors" it is illegal to state they are attorneys and even more illegal when documents are sent throught he US postal service stating as such. I received a letter from them back in April requesting that I pay xxxx. I contacted them by phone and asked what the debt was for as it was new to me - I requested that any correspondence be done in writing. Did not hear anything back from them. So before 30 days passed, I submitted a "debt verification" letter and clearly stated that I was not refusing to pay, but would like to know the origination of this money owed. Did not hear one word from them until today - August 24, 2010. Received a call from "Anthony" calling from Brennan & Clark with a time sensitive matter and I needed to return his call today before 5:00 pm. Now, Anthony failed to leave a return call and when my phone is in the off position, missed calls do not show so I have no idea where to return his call. I think I might just contact the state attorney generals office.
- Harassed in Los AngelesBen Devine acts like an attorney who is looking to resolve the matter amicably. Wanting to know what law school I went to when I ask him to stop harassing my place of business by wasting my staff's time with automatic messages to call them.
HE over talks when you try to talk to him and does not allow you to speak.
I asked for written proof of a debt. He said I should have it
I have filled a complaint with the FTC. I suggest you do the same.
Looks like AJ works for Brennan & Clark. They never stop!- Caller: Brennan & Clark

- google? replies to to fedup1Yeah so that class action suit ended in 2000...and there hasnt been another one brought since. I could literally only find one case against them. Where are the others, what do I google?
- Rachel replies to MarkI saw your post...got a call from this guy as well saying he his client wants to pursue suing me for $300. He is rude and insistent. How did your situation work out?
- KathyI got a call, {message} from Ben Divine, when I called him back with the case # , he told me it wasn't in his records, so he'd check with his secretary, who was not at her desk, then he wanted a ton of info about me, so he could "look up the file". I don't owe anyone anything, he kept insisting I own my own business, which I don't, I cussed him out for wasting my time, and after drying his tears, I think he gave up. Don't knuckle under to these low lives. They prey on the fearful.
