Same threatening call. John Stratten-left a message. I called back-no answer. I have great credit and no delinquent debt. Checked the # on the web and now am more educated.

This firm keeps calling my CHILD even though I have repeatedly told them that the person they are trying to track down has not had this phone number for at least 18 months.

John stratton,  threating  call..  I  call  back  and   they  said  they  would  take  my  number  off, but  every  day  same  call.

If you know how to mask your IP address, go on Craigslist and place an ad in looking for hook ups and list John Stratton as the dude "who's looking" using their 888 number as the contact number. If there are quite a few ads in each state, their phone will be ringing off the hook. I'm sure they appreciate the iPhone 5  for $50 , "I'm broke and need cash" ad placed  :).   Must be busy as I have not been called for 4 days straight now. A new record.

john staton called me too , but from a different number 302-483-7032. same message, ending in good luck. talked to a lawyer he said they are scammers

wow, i just called the number johny boy straton called me on 302-483-7032, another rude black lady answered and told me he is a prosess server and he was not there, hey folks process servers dont call you and threaten you they just frikin serve you. she called me an [***], when i didnt allow her to talk over me like a child. Then i laughed at her, and hung up on her, then she called back 13 times in 2 minutes. i now was blocking ( with mr. number ) that number so she went crazy, and started calling me from other numbers. i finally picked up to laugh at her some more, she told me she was asigning 30 others peoples cases to my phone number. meaning that they will purposely harrass me with their accounts to. she said they will call me morning and night. THEY ARE FRIKIN SCAMMERS DONT LET THEM SCARE YOU. I HAVE SPENT 5 OR 6 HRS RESEARCHING THEM. DONT LET THEM HARRASS YOU, HARRASS THEM.

That's an even better idea then mine.  I left them messages on the full 4.3 minutes of their voice mail continuously for over two hours.  I reviewed every circular I got in the mail and haven't had a call since.

I hope you check this again.  I filled their voice mail with nonsense.  Called them straight over and over again for almost three hours.  If they are paying their phone bill, they got charged for every single minute I used their line.  Haven't had a call since.  I also made a complaint with the PA attorney general's office.

I responded to this just to see what type of scam this was. The person who answered so was unbelievably rude when I asked her to take my number off their list. (They actually were calling for someone who might have had my number previously.)  The woman actually said, "I don't give a damn if you call President Obama to report us." Really? I will report it to the Better Business Bureau.

I am getting several calls from John Stratton.  All giving 48 hours yet days pass before the next call.  Numbers called from are local numbers in Dallas surrounding area 214-452-2661 & 469-458-0507.  I refuse to call back.  I had not thought about blocking the numbers until I read one of the post above. Good idea.  Thank you all for your posts.

I promise you all, this IS a scam. I've been getting calls very similar to this originating from all over the U.S. all saying almost the exact same thing in the exact order and even ending in the exact way of saying "good luck". The name often changes though, if they give a name at all. I've gotten them originating from Indiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Texas.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I just got the same call a few times and the scary thing is they had my social security number. very very abusive, can we report them somehow? this seems wrong, and yeah the name?? Arbitrary mediation? LOL it sure is arbitrary...

I have been receiving same phone calls as above listed. I have had African-American female cuss at me and an A.A. male hang up after me questioning what case number. Message left was also from a John Stratton and I had a caller I.D. of 816-272-2866. I am reporting to my Attorney Generals Office

It is quite common that they find an Attorney and their Bar number and pretend to be that Attorney- DO NOT FALL FOR IT !!! If the police had an arrest warrant for you they certainly do not call you in advance to warn you. They are not filing anything in the court system. It is best to just ignore these scam artists.

John isn't there anything you can do about this.  They're illegally using your name.  They are annoying

I was just called from this number.
"John Stratton" left a voicemail from Arbitrary Mediation gave me 24 hours to respond to complaint number 2014-400158.
Told me to call back 888-259-2437 or "further action would be taken in my county".
This is horsecrap.
I have no unpaid debt and am in collections myself.
Collectors are not allowed to leave any information on voicemail due to privacy laws.
If the number we are calling is not who we are trying to reach, and we leave personal info like a complaint number, we can be sued and that defeats the purpose of collecting.
A few months ago, I answered a number I didn't recognize, and had the same dance.  I asked the man if I could have some documentation sent to my home address (which he HAD already, scary) stating where the debt originated and the breakdown of interest and fees.  He said he could not due to this being a time-sensitive matter...I had to pay this $400 NOW!
Don't fall for this.
Ask for documentation, and if they threaten you with arrest or having "the sheriff come to your door", it's a scam.
Also we never say Good Luck to people.
