    Careful
"Ellie" stated that my name and number had been pulled, but she never verbalized either in her message.  She said call x 421.   We do contests but always carefully define them.  This has no info. It may be fishing for info to do ID theft or verify a name & number for other nefarious purposes.  It also smelled like a bill collector.  They say you won to get you to call then they hit you up when you identify yourself.  Real companies & contests show up at the door or deal with certified snail mail.

Same MO received here.  I did call back and spoke to Mark Lewis.  It is a ploy from Direct Buy to get you into their local showroom and listen to an hour and a half presentation.  No doubt there would be a high pressure sales pitch with hopes of you spending money with them.

Supposedly, after you hear the presentation you are given a "golden key" to try.  If it opens the lock, you win the $50K home makeover.  If not, you receive one of two other lesser prizes (airfare in US or cruise voucher).

I have no respect for companies who use these kinds of tactics to draw potential costumers.  Direct Buy will NEVER get my business, especially after this scam.

    Now you know ... BEWARE!

Ellie is still going strong and she is still trying to say our name was pulled for a 50K makeover.  Glad you guys are posting this scam so we don't wonder any longer.

Same scam.  Ellie @888-301-0702x421. 50K hom emakeover.  I did not bother calling them.

I must say, not re this call, that I'm really disappointed in the FCC.  We have been receiving dozens of no-one-there calls from several exchanges:  All of the #s are spoofed caller IDs.  Reported these to the FCC, and received "we can take no action:  Contact your State Attorney General" replies.

But spoofed IDs are in the FCCs domain, not the SAGs!

I got the 50,000 Home Makeover, too! (Haha)  I also didn't remember doing any entries... So I decided to check online before I called!  "Verification Center" also seemed a little strange.  No company name or business...

Thanks everyone! Just threw out the number!

I received the exact same message from "Ellie" and to call back and ask for x421.  When I called back, I was told that Ellie was at an event giving out prizes but she left her computer at her desk.  I asked who they were and he said they were the "Verification Center".  He asked for my last name and home phone number and put me on hold.  While on hold I searched online and found all of your posts!  When the man came back on the line he told me he would need more information and then he would tell me where I could go to pick up my prizes.  I told him that I was online reading about the same calls other people had received and I was concerned.  His voice changed completely and he said "FINE!  We'll just give your prizes to someone else then!"  Then he hung up on me!

    Thanks everyone for your help!

Thanks to all who have posted this information.  I just received the same message today from "Allie" of the Verification Center regarding the $50000 home make over from Direct Buy.  I almost fell for it.  Now I won't even bother to call back.

They called last Saturday morning to confirm my appointment. My wife talked to them and said we'd be there......(ha ha ha. we weren't.) Received a call today asking if we could make in this Saturday. We said sure, we'll be there THIS time. We wont !! Act like you're falling for their crap and then stand them up. It's kinda fun.

Got the same message today. Ellie at Ext 421. Googled the number to see if it was legit and ended up here. Like a few others here, I had actually entered a 50k home makeover contest on HGTV at some point.

I find it interesting that it's DirectBuy. I despise this company. There is a local branch here and back in 2004 when I purchased a home and was shopping around to furnish it, they were one of the places I contacted because supposedly they have wholesale prices and such. They sent me a catalog - cool... looked through it, nothing I really wanted or needed or their prices were too outrageous for "wholesale", so I tossed it and moved on. Well they kept calling me with follow up calls for months leaving messages while I wasn't home and such to the point that one day when I actually caught them on the phone, I had to yell at them to take me off their FN calling list. Calling EVERY 4-5 DAYS to see if I wanted to buy something or come down to their showroom was NOT ACCEPTABLE to me. Anyway, no surprise they're involved in this BS.
