Thats not true either. They can get into trouble and get fined for not placing you on the internal DNC list when asked.  In most cases, people are cussed at, hung up on and the calls continue.  There is thread after thread on this here.

But the fact remains, charity, survey's and political calls can get into trouble and fined. They can be reported.

Now how in the world would the Epilepsy foundation find a cure on the pennies that your employer gives to them?  It is common knowledge that scumbag telemarketers put more money in their pockets than they give to the charity, if they give anything at all.  Petitions do nothing.  Now as to the bigger issue, if you feel that it is so important not to complain, then why are you wasting your time here when you could be out soliciting funds?

I'm saying it's more important to stop epilepsy than it is to complain about telemarketers.  I have lost two very close to me from epilepsy - dead.  Everyone should contact their state representatives; petitioning your state rep does work (especially when elections are close).   And, fyi, I have a real job and I'm not a telemarketer.  Also, you can contact Les Brody directly at the Epilepsy Foundation in Dorchester, MA.

Hi BigA...ya, you are right; they are required to put the number on their internal dnc list.  In May, the attorney general in Minnesota sued SAVERS THRIFT STORE for not giving all money they got from selling the donated items from charities back to the charities.  But, Epilepsy Foundation was sued a month later for allowing Savers to use signage that was misleading to donors.  Google "Epilepsy Foundation sued in Minnesota" to see the details.  Interesting.

With all due respect, you are also on this board so perhaps your time would also be better spent finding ways to fund raise for epilepsy. My major cause is Alzheimers and I spend a lot of time fundraising and educating the public about it since it is one of the currently overlooked diseases . I never receive unwanted calls from them, just a mailed donation request twice a year from my local Alzheimers Disease Resource Center. It seems like the charities who do call relentlessly are the ones who give very little to the actual cause. Just saying. Now I am going to finish my coffee and continue packing for my impending move. This is nothing more to be said. Have a nice day.

"In May, the attorney general in Minnesota sued SAVERS THRIFT STORE for not giving all money they got from selling the donated items from charities back to the charities."

Where did you read that? The articles I read said that SAVERS paid the charities for their donations by the pound, no matter what it was or whether it ever got sold or how much it sold for.

Only an foolish person would expect a brick-and-mortar store to give the donor charity "all the money they got from selling the donated items" and I hope that attorney general in Minnesota is not foolish. It is just not possible to track every donated item within these stores, the employees I have seen in the two stores in my city are not able to do that.

What I gather from the articles is that SAVERS, being a private for-profit business, does not disclose its financials the way the non-profits have to disclose their financials, and that rankles the attorney general. Furthermore, if SAVERS is being run as a business that supports charities, then my logic says all the profits have to be distributed to charities, with very little going to the "owners" of SAVERS, beyond a modest amount for their "work" in managing the properties. Perhaps the owners should disclose what they do with the profits beyond expanding their "empire".

The conspiracy theory node in my brain says that other non-profits that actually run their own brick-and-mortar stores resent that, because all of their profits after sales goes to the non-profit and not some rich twerps' wallet. There are some non-profit stores that intentionally hire people with handicaps, so that donations actually do help those people directly.

I am all for finding effective ways to combat epilepsy. But that does not change that fact that there are charities that refuse to stop calling people when asked not to. I trust the national Epilepsy Foundation, but I do not trust unfamiliar callers.

I have to question if part of the issue is related to the fact that some charitable organizations use third party services to make many of the calls in question here on 800notes. As I stated just moments ago, I do not to trust unfamiliar callers. Especially consider the fact that telemaggoters use caller id spoofing. Because of this practice,
I believe people should be leery of what appears on caller id.

Due to all the annoying phone calls we received from this number and others at all times of the day and night 24/7, we have long since just turned off the ringer to the land phone.  In checking the call log, it is incredible the amount of unwanted ones there are.  It is just an invasion of our privacy period.  Call blocking just costs money, time and effort and we cannot be bothered with it.  At least there is 800Notes to keep everyone informed as to whom these calls originate from.  Most of them are just scams anyway from spoofed numbers including our own.  The call type is unknown as it might be from the Epilepsy Foundation or just from another scam artist who spoofed the number.  Sometimes the caller company is logged in as unknown but the same number.  Anyone who gives to a charity by phone is a fool unless they themselves initiate the call.

We got a call again from this number today at 12:55 pm . The call would have been blocked but my wife was on the line. We have call waiting, but no voicemail message was left. The caller ID was still "UNAVAILABLE". Please see my post of 12 May 2015.

Because if you call the number back then they know for sure it's a live number with someone who cares on the other end and they can sell it to the next spoofer, spammer, or organization.

This really IS the Epilepsy Foundation.  We got a card in the mail and were looking to get rid of Clothes.  The did come in an Epilepsy Foundation Truck and picked up old clothes in a garbage bag that we left out on the driveway.  You attach the card to the Garbage Bag and they leave you a receipt in your mailbox.

Received call from this number.  Have no clue why they call.  They pretended they were ckg on our computer.  I verified the number and called it back.  Sure enough it was from The Epilepsy Foundation.
