If you read the other posts you will see that charities are exempt. You may still consider it a joke, but please stop adding to all the the negativity in the world. At the risk of being negative myself, being critical seems to be so much more "hip" that pointing out positive things. That could make us all feel better.

Didn't pick up. No Caller ID. The number seems to be registered with the donation people for the Epilepsy Foundation of New England. I didn't check that. They triggered my voicemail but didn't leave a message. I've donated to other pickup services in the past. Possible that my number got passed around. The other donation center always leaves a helpful message.

I got the  contact number  of 888-322-8209 when I inquired.  which is for the Epilepsy's Wilmington, MA location.
I informed the supervisor that they were in violation of federal law and that the number they called was on the do not call list.
I told him I was reporting the number to the FCC,FTC, and states attorney generals office.

Our solution to all of these unwanted calls is to not answer anything we don't recognize or have ID'd.  Any friend or business that we are dealing with would leave us a message so that we could return the call.  We're hoping that after a few times with no answer, they take us off their list - we'll see.

Seems call blocking equipment is not the answer:
    1. If they want to get around the block they will just spoof the call so that the phone number and/or name is different on the caller ID.
    2. I also strongly believe that these debt collectors sell the debt to different agencies who then start calling from a different number.  Block the call, they sell the debt.

Rather than blocking calls I want to allow calls but only those of my choosing.  If you want me to get a call you would need to register first.  Bottom line, I

Just so you'll know for future information a non-profit organization does not follow the same regulations as a for-profit organization so you're number is not screened under the national registry of "do not call" numbers.  Reporting a non-profit organization number is useless.  However, if you answer the phone  and actually speak with them all you need to say is "take me off your call list" and it will get done.  They will keep calling anyone unless the person actually states "put me on your do not call list".  It might take a few weeks but it will get done.  Frustrating, isn't it.

Unfortunately, that is not always true. There are many non-profits, who despite being asked to be removed several times, continue to call. I report them anyway, if they are not following the removal requests as they are required to,  they can face fines for being in violation of the guidelines set forth. I have now blocked any and all so called non-profits since most of them who call are rated very low and not even BBB accredited. I do not donate to any organization that cold calls me constantly. Apparently you have not read many of the hundreds of complaints concerning "charities" who persist in calling and even told people they have a right to call. Just because they are exempt (and frankly, they should not be exempt from the donotall list) does not give them the right to harass the public. I have filed complaints with the FTC and FCC because of their unethical call practices and will continue to do so.

While the charity may be non profit, the person calling is working for a for profit organization that gives pennies on the dollar to the charity and pockets the rest.  Donate directly to the charity and 100% goes to that charity.  I too have been told by non profits that they are not "obligated to have an internal DNC list" which is not true of course.

Again, not always true. There is one "charity", who despite being blocked since before April of this year) has called since then approximately 75 times and yet still tries. They are cut off after their first ring so it never gets through and I don't hear a ring either. When I questioned why, the response was "if there is no one on the other end, it is considered a dropped call and they will try again". I have noticed, though, by unplugging my answering machine, that most of those who call and only reach a ring, don't seem to call back. I block them anyway and there are few who will still try, I just glance at caller id and delete the numbers. They want to waste their time calling, well, so be it. I just block away and laugh.

And, apparently, you're a hothead.  You must spend a lot of time reading "the hundreds of complaints concerning charities".  You must be exhausted!  As I said,  non-profits will remove your name from a call list if you actually ask them to do so (within 31 days).

I beg to differ. For over two years my mom has been receiving calls from Lupus looking for clothing. On several occasions they were asked to place her number on their do not call list and those requests were ignored. Just in case you are wondering, the number that has appears on her CID is in fact an official Lupus number.

No I'm not, I just know when they do not remove your number. Post again in 31 days  if they actually stop calling you. And for your information, there are certain numbers to continue to call and have pages and pages of complaints for just one number .

In my mind, the bigger issue is do we want to find effective ways of managing and curing epilepsy or do we want to spend our time complaining about phone calls?  You might want to contact Les Brody in Dorchester, MA about the phone calls.  Also, to get some laws on the books about unwanted calls, we need to collect the required amount of signatures and petition our state reps.  Or go to change.org and start a national petition there (less time consuming).
