By the time the debt gets forwarded/sold to a collection agency, your credit has already been damaged.  The phone company, credit card company etc that you owe reports it after 30 days late, 60 days late, 90 days late...so please don't think that because a Collection Agency tells you your credit won't be affected if you pay them or make payment arrangements this is true.  

Check your "credit"..its free.  You will see what has or has not been reported etc.  Also, if say a collection company does put a strike against your credit, do your research and ensure that they have the right to do that.  Did you sign anything with the company your actually have a contract with (Phone company, credit card company) that allowed them to pass your personal info to anyone else or a collection company?  Don't just allow this...get to the bottom of it..it is your right and more importantly YOUR responsibility to stay on top of your credit and not let "reports" that are not legit damage your credit!

I Agree with you 100% she has called me 1000 times and while I do have the debt that she is referring to, it is currently under investigation due to a fraud that happened on my account after a theft. Which I informed her of. She is abrasive, rude, ignorant, and should not be dealing with the general public, she makes collections companies look worse than people already think they are. She needs some sort of psychiatric evaluation. Debt is hard enough on people as it is, having someone like her dealing with people  could have adverse effects. What if she is so rude to someone who is already having a tough time in life, including debt among other issues, that the person in question was to commit suicide? my only thoughts would be, how do you like me now [***]? now you're never getting paid.

yes, some body called me also left a message and when i call back them with ref number, they said it is wrong number.

yeah, getting the same call, her name is melanie, ext.229. called her back left a msg. now they are calling family member, asking them questions about me.  My family of course is not answering, because they will not state in what it regards. It's really getting annoying now

You guys are all idiots. Working in collections is a perfectly normal job that contributes to the health of the economy. This job keeps my bills paid and the ability to buy nice things. I admit I just stumbled upon this while I was bored at work, but WOW. I'm having a good laugh right now at this whole blog of morons teaching each other how to avoid paying their bills. You're all real winners, keep up the good work keeping me employed.

18 mar 10 @ p.m....recieved a phone call from a male who identfied himself as a " mr. thomas " stated that he was looking for a " bridget quesnel " and horribly pronounced the last name...that he was a long lost first cousin and was trying to locate her..." mr thomas " gave his phone number as 1-888-395-1147 ext 6868....and was from "dna corporation"....a look up of the number shows it is acually d and a collections agency of toronto...wow..."mr thomas" must be real desparate to start calling numbers in kingston ont...on the pretence of looking for a long lost cousin...LOL...

got a call from these people very annoying people.when i called them back couldn't or wouldn't tell me why they called me.

I refuse to call them back because the account they are trying to collect does not belong to me.  The account is for my husband who has been dead for 5 years.  Over the years I have given Bell a copy of the death certificate as well as 2 other collection agencies who have been trying to collect on behalf of Bell.  Bell sells their bad debts to people like this and I have not figured out how to stop the harassment.  Not only is it anoying but it just brings back hurtful memories.  I just don't answer the phone anymore when they call.

I just got a call from this guy, re: my son's cc that shouldn't have been issued without a credit check in the first place. The guy told me that if my son didn't call back within an hour, they were going to start legal action. The kid doens't work, has no money, etc. WTF

They are listed as  a Collection Agency, but they act as if it is life and death in order to scare u into to thinking you have done something wrong.  I googled them and that is what it comes up as. Like I need this crap !

Received phone message on my voice mail to call 1-888-395-1147 and that I have a file no. 337802. They even don't know my first name correctly. They called twice and said the same thing. They then called the 3rd time. This time I told them that I'd be contacting the Police.

The agency is called D&A Collections, not DNA!. I talked to one of their reps one afternoon. The guy on the line threatened me several times. I said I just want my questions answered, he hung up on me. I called them back and wrote down the whole conversation. If this happens to you ask for their legal operating name and the reps name and license number. Write down the time and date that they called. Ask for a supervisor, if possible. At least this way you can have your situation covered on your end.

How do they get your number and then ask for another person to call them. If they don't get a reply from someone then they threaten to keep calling you until whatever is resolved. Can I call the police and have them serve this dna corporation with harassment?
