She called and wanted me to press Ctrl, Window key and R and type in INF.  I felt extremely uncomfortable and stopped her there. asked for her phone no to call her back.  I have been having difficulties with my registry, so this call could have had some credence. Still, I felt this was not ligit. Thank God I did not follow thru.

This company is a complete SCAM.  The guy called me with a THICK indian accent claiming his name was George Williams.  Really tho...George William!I know all about these scams, but just for laughs I went along with it.  It was a good laugh for the afternoon, but I wasn't giving him access to my computer...not in a million years.  The number that came up on the caller ID was 1-123-456-7809. If that's not a red flag that this is a scam then I don't know what is.

Got a  call with the Indian accent, said he was from Microsoft and the operating system was compromised and he would help me fix it. I asked him several times about who he was and he said he was with Microsoft Technical Services and they wanted them to help. Been here before and not going back. One I got in to a couple of years ago, at the end they want to sell you a matinance contract.

I tried to register a complaint with the National "Do Not Call" Registry.  However, the registry refused to accept the complaint.  The message said:  "the phone number you reported is the same as your receiving number."  Bottom line, these jokers have some sort of software that makes the 1-888-574-1650 number look like your own number.  It is a scam.  Do not even think about letting them access your computer!

I got the same call. This guy was Ricky something-or-other (I tried to get him to spell his last name and got no further than "Vhdl"). The incoming caller ID gave the number 1-333-260-2212. I asked for a call-back number for security and got 888-514-1650. I called back and it's a legit number asking you to "Press 1 for Customer Support." I hung up. Too bad the FBI is totally useless in processing these kinds of scams.

I just experienced the same thing that all of you are talking about. It actually sounded legit because I was experiencing some issues with viruses on my computer. He had me press the windows key and the R button and before I knew what was happening, he was in my computer! Thank God I hung up on him, shut my computer down and unplugged the internet right away. I never gave him any private info or any credit card info either. I also called the credit card company and told them to RED flag the account. So I do feel better.

I actually think you maybe one of the telemarketers making these phone calls. I can tell by the way you are spelling words and typing. You type as if you have broken English. Examples: (i don't think its scam ...I got a call today) (The caller id was  unknown number) (one stop sum thing they told me if i need any help give a call)
Most educated Americans don't type and spell this way!!! YOU'RE BUSTED!!!

Received a phone call a few days ago on my home phone (a gentleman with an Indian accent that wanted me to go to my computer from because I had a virus. The number came up as a private caller and the only reason I answered it was because I thought it was a family member. I asked him how did he even know that I have a computer. At the time, my computer was not on. He kept telling me how he was going to help me. I asked him his name and what company he was calling from - he did would not give me that information. I told him I thought this call was a scam and that he should remove my name and number from his list. He hung up on me!

Two days before I received my call my daughter, received a similar call on her cell phone. She told the person on the other that she did not have time to do what he wanted and assured him that her computer was fine and did not require his help.

On 9/18/2013 a co-worker of mine also received a simliar call at her elderly mother's home and they asked for her mother. He told her that he was going to help her eliminate unwanted files on her computer.  Feeling very uneasy about this, she asked for his name, company and phone number. This is what she got:
Jordan, One Stop e Market Computer Maintenance Co. 1-888-514-1650.

As stated by other folks who posted, this company must be violating some laws as they are cold calling folks and possibly scamming the elderly and and bilking others for services that they likely do not need. Not too mention if they give them remote access to their computer the damage that can be done.

These guys have called me twice in the past week or so - today is was Debra and she too had a thick Indian accent.  I pressed for a corporate phone number and a mailing address.  All I got was their corporate headquarters are in Valley Cottage, NY - I Googled it and it is a small town of about 10,000 people.  I could not get them to give me a street address.  The only # they'd give me was the 1-888-514-1650 number.
I kept asking questions about them and their company and where they were from, etc.  I asked to speak to a manager and just kept pestering them until they both hung up on me.  I asked that I be taken off their call list but that goes no where.
This is a scam and I never give them any info.  Funny, but Debra told me today she didn't have time to answer all my questions as it was a waste of her time and mine and that she had other important people to call.

I have gotten at least five phone calls from heavily Indian-accented people, both men and women, in the past month.  Their script is always the same, telling me they have been monitoring my computer and that I have downloaded viruses or bad files from the internet.  They are very rude and pushy and only respond to questions with repetitions from their script.  If I ask too many questions they hang up so I've never gotten a call back number.

Have some fun with these guys; go find a Judge Judy Soundboard online, put your phone near a speaker and hit the recorded responses when you call them and they ask you questions. I had one guy responding to Judge Judy's voice for 5 minutes! Too funny!!

I got one of these calls, too.  Same story as others a guy with a heavy Indian accent named "Dan".  (hmmm suspicious right out of the gate)  claiming their company has been monitoring my computer and noticed it downloads unnecessary files when I go online.  He also claimed we had made a report of a tech problem, and he was calling in response.  Well, I think we would know if we had made such a report.  When I pressed him for proof of his legitimacy, he offered the following:  1) His knowing that the key next to my CTRL key is the four-flag icon 2) My husband's name, our street address, and phone number...which he claimed he could only know if he had access to our account records.  I pointed out that this is public information.  He reverted back to his script.  3)  When I pressed him for a phone number, he gave this 888 number, and claimed that only a legitimate company could get an 888 number.  When I told him that any individual could get a toll-free number, he argued with that, and then reverted back to his script.  Then he tried the sympathy approach>  His name is Dan Heart (with that accent?) living and working in NYC trying to support his family.  Nice try, Dan.  He gave up.

Received a similar call tonight.  This one was from a woman in New York.  My husband initially answered the call and she first asked for his username.  He asked how she knew if he had a computer...that's when she asked for his username. He handed the phone to me and I could barely understand her....a strong Asian accent...I asked her where she was located...she said New York...I asked for a number and she gave me 18 1 888 514 1650.  I asked her if she meant that number without the first 18 and she said no, and repeated the number.  She said something about unwanted files and a virus within Microsoft Windows infecting 45% of Windows Software.  I told her no thank you and she hung up.  I called the number and it merely said...thank you for calling press 1 for Tech Support, 2 for Customer Service and 3 to exit. I exited.

My wife took this call, got the usual spiel, and the caller wanted her to type Windows-R (which is "run") then type "inf," which just opens the "c:\Windows\inf" directory, then delete all the device driver .pnf files (these are compiled .inf files, and deleting them may actually be harmless -- I think they are automatically re-constituted). She refused to do that and hung up, but she got this number (888-514-1650) first as a call back number. Who knows what else they would have asked her to do?

I called the number, pressed 2 for customer service, got a woman (also with a thick accent) who appeared to want to sell me a support package. My guess is the people who make the first call want to either mess up your computer (or convince you it is already messed up) and then sell you service to "fix" it. They will, among other things, have your credit card number at that point. (Elsewhere I read of someone who gave them a CC#, then cancelled, but they continued to bill him.)

The original callers are probably paid a small fraction of the take, as in any boiler-room operation.
