Caller ID read "Toll free call", and decided to screen the call, but the caller hung up when my answering machine kicked in.

Let me get this straight.  People should ask R. M. S. Collection Agency for a settlement on an alleged debt that they do not owe?  Plus the collection company is willing to settle for half of the alleged monies owed because so far, they have not been able to collect on the alleged debt.  Furthermore, the simple fact that a representative from the collection agency is posting information on this string on this seems like the collectors for the company are already trying to harass and intimidate those people from which it is trying to collect. It is a good idea to know what collectors can and cannot due.  Understand your rights when a debt collector calls.  Google FDCPA it is the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Thank you R M Rode!! Well put!! I thought those earlier posts seemed rather one-sided! My husband has been getting these BLOCKED calls (Caller id says "Out of Area") & they always have some BS sounding refrence # like 221 112 234.. and the debt itself is from many years ago when he was married to a shrew & it's been long gone & forgotten... anyways.. I think this "collection agency" uses almost any kind of tactic to get you to make JUST ONE payment so they can update the old debt to a active status & when you start questioning what's what they say, "Well why did you make a payment if it wasn't YOUR debt?" I also have heard that they will even try to falsify a debt that was not even yours!! SO BEWARE!!!!!

These schmucks sent me a collection notice saying I owe $55.00 to an insurance company. I haven't been insured through this company in a year. Never had a contract with them and have never gotten any notice from them in regard to an outstanding balance. I am a debt collector and know the FDCPA laws. I called this company and they did not give me the mini Miranda, they never validated to whom they were speaking, nor did they identify themselves as a collection agency. Jessica Irizarry was the collector who answered her supervisor is Jeff Brown. I will be filing a complaint w/ the FTC and also the Attorney General for the unlawful collection practices. Thank Receivable Management Solutions I'm gonna get a fat check from you!!!!!

Me too!  They are calling me for a Sprint debt that is clearly someone elses.  I've told them that it isn't mine and never has been (my guess is someone else with the same name as mine is out there since mine is very common) and they are trying to extort some money from whomever they can. Not to mention they said the debt is from the year 2000 on one call and 1997 on another call! They have called me 4 times and each time i've told them to stop calling me per my rights and they still call.  I will be getting a big fat check as well!  Time for people to start standing up for their rights.  These collection companies are ramping it up and now they are slipping up left and right with people from what I read.

We received a call at our home number from RMS about 2 months ago regarding an invoice we supposedly owed through our business - which closed 12/31/08.  It was for insurance through Travellers, which we had let lapse since we knew the store would be closing.  We even have a cancellation notice from Travellers.  However, RMS is saying Travellers sold the debt to them.  Travellers can't or won't verify whether this is accurate or not.

Anyway, we have requested that RMS send us backup in writing at least 5 times now.  We have started calling them every other day to get this info.  They supposedly mailed it to the business address - which (as I mentioned) is closed, when my husband specifically told them to mail the info to our home address.  When he asked them to fax and mail a copy, they told him they could only process one backup request per phone call.

I've never dealt with a collection agency before, but this seems like some sort of scam.  When we finally receive written info from RMS, we plan to hand it directly to our lawyer.

This company works as a contractor for a number of insurance companies, usually relating to disability coverage.

Disability RMS is an unscrupulous firm hired by insurance companies for the primary purpose of finding reasons NOT to pay claims.  They are as callous and ruthless as they can possibly get.

In addition to their claims delay and negate tactics, R.M.S., as part of the way they are compensated are given premium payment information by the respective insurance company.  By LAW, in every State I know of, life and health premiums have at least a 30 day grace period.  R.M.S., falsely (and illegally I might add) tells people they are responsible for their premium to cover the grace period unless it can be proven that the insured gave the insurance company a minimum of 30 days termination notice.

The only way to R.M.S. to stop their harassment is to write a formal complain to BOTH your State insurance regulators and the respective insurance company.

Personally, as an independent risk manager and broker, I also recommend boycotting any insurance company that contracts this scum.  Some of the insurance companies companies that I do know using this outfit are as follows:

    Principal Financial Group
OneAmerica (formerly called AUL or American United Life)
    UNUM/Provident
AEGON Companies (including Monumental Life and Travellers)

In addition, there are many large, self-insured companies that use this firms services.  Remember, the only real reason Disability R.M.S. exists is to get insurance claims denied for ANY reason.

If your fighting the unscrupulous collection tactics of R.M.S., you probably can fight this through your State authorities without getting a lawyer.

However, if you are fighting a disability claim, you may have no other choice but to obtain legal counsel.

In addition to their claims delay and negate tactics, R.M.S., as part of the way R.M.S. is compensated, insurance companies supply them with client premium payment information (which is probably illegal as well).  These insurance companies KNOW this is illegal, but since the client terminated THEIR services, this harassment is their retribution they take on the the client. This is true for all life and health insurance policies (unless there are self insurance issues or special Section 125 obligations).  The insured is under NO obligation to tell a company they've been replaced or their services cancelled.

not even the person they wanted
My message was left on the answering machine. It left the 888-545-4170 return. It said it was RMS and wanted to speak to my son that lived here 15 years ago and it was not even this telephone number.

One interesting thing is that is says you have 3 seconds to hang up or identify yourself or you are acknowledging that you are indeed "the name they give". What kind of legal crap is that.

Harassing my 92 year old mother for a terminated HUMANA Medicare insurance because her local clinic would no longer accept the contract from HUMANA due to too low reimbursements will be a problem for RMS and HUMANA. With a terminated account and no claims submitted to HUMANA for reimbursement, harassing my mother is causing mental distress.

I waited for a minute when RMS young, immature, representative "Preston" decided to answer his company's war dialed call. When he came on it took about a minute for him to provide information that he was doing a financial shakedown for HUMANA to capture as much money for that failing company by pursuing bogus, wrongful claims against elderly people. Then, after a back and forth game of ping pong, Preston insisted on having the last word by saying have a good day and after 3-4 minutes of that, I got the last word of repeated "don't call" with a dial tone.

Then I called and got "Minerva G" from Customer Service of HUMANA. Minerva tried to run circles around an "outstanding balance" and "company policy" and I replied that it was our policy to not accept any bilings under Medicare law when the account had been terminated and a new Insurer, Blue Cross Blue Sheild had been contracted for Medicare Medgap coverage with premium payments and claims processed by them. Again an exchange of ping pong positions.

My statement was that if RMS called and mentally abused my mother anymore causing mental distress, I would initiate a small claims court action against RMS and HUMANA to get a court order to stop harassment of my 92 year old mother, reimbursement for my time in intiating and following through on this action, Court Fees and costs such as mileage to and from the Court and compensation of over $50,000 for emotional distress for my mother.

I can and will intitiate this claim. So if RMS trolls are following this website, bring it on you little sparrow farts!!

I advised Minerva G that she sounded like an educated and intelligent young woman, that I realized the labor market for jobs was tough right now but that I was confident that she could and should try to find a different career path than shaking down elderly citizens for $45 here and $60 there for monies that are not owed to defraud them of monies AND mentally abuse them.

She wished me a Happy 4th of July and I returned the comment.
