    buried in debt
I feel so stupid when it comes to knowing consumer's right against these third party debt collectors.  I fell for the trap.  I set up payment with them from Oct. to Dec. for $150.00.  Of course they also take out another $10 processing fee.  Each month they sent a postcard saying that on a whatever date that they were going to deduct the amount from my account.  This plan was only set up on a 3 month trial and I only approved it until December.  They called a few times in December, of course when I am at work.  Then nothing.  I found out in April when going through through my bank account that they had taken out payments for Jan., Feb., March., April for the same amount.  The problem with this is - is that I did not give verbal or written consent to go past December, and on top of that I did not receive one of their cards saying that they were going to deduct from my account.  I finally received on of their cards on May 11 stating that they were going to deduct from my account on May 2.  Well, that date had already past.  Then I just got a notice that they are going to deduct $600 from my account over the next 4 months and then they would consider the debt paid in full.  I could my bank immediately to stop them from taking out the money because again, I did not authorize it and I don't have the money.  If I did not give consent past Dec. and they did not notify me that they were going to take Jan - May's payment out then I feel that I have a claim against them...and should sue them.  My bank says that they will file fraudulent charges against them and will pursue the case for me.  These people are ruthless.

Well this is all very interesting. Starting July 13th, I received a voice message at home (computer generated) to call Patricia at 855-222-5483.  Same type of call stated above (listen in private, etc).  I received another message yesterday, July 27th, and again today.  All the same.  I knew this would be a scam, and I refuse to call them back from my home.  I called from work, still did not give my number and finally got someone to say they are a collection agency for United Healthcare.   When you go to the drs., the dr. bills the insurance company; insurance company pays their portion, any remaining balance you pay the dr. NOT THE INSURANCE COMPANY.

I called United Healthcare and put them on notice.  Next call (tomorrow) is the State of Connecticut Insurance Commissioner.

I have been getting these calls and do not tell me who they are are what they want  same way at the person above said having to wait for so long so they can talk to me in private.  Only thing I have been told in this voice mail is the name of the person calling and it is important that I call them back.  I do not call back numbers until i check first  with google and that is how I found out it was RMS, from the telelphone number and when the voice mail answered and said RMS,, all our people are busy  helping other people so please stay on the line.....I did about 1 minute and hung up and did it about 2 hours later and the same thing .I want to send a complaint to wherever the company is or what it is they are calling about I see the home office is in Bethlehem,Pa.  interesting such a biblical name for such a company,, So I will be sending a letter there along with the one to the Feds

My husband got a message from them (888-545-4170) but he refused to listen. Their first sentence was a statement that if you continue to listen, you are legally informed. This sentence prompted my husband to hang up. We had no clue who and why calling him from this number until I looked it up on the internet. THANK YOU to all for this post. We have no debts and have no plan to return a call as we know now THIS IS A SCAM.

These "[***]" keep calling my cell phone and it causes me airtime minute costs.  The call every few days and are relentless.  Someone on the recording identifies themselves as "Patricia" wanting to speak to someone named "Cash-a-Kay" (our that's what it's sounds like).  Whomever these people are, I would very much appreciate anyone giving me information that will identify their physical location.  I am filing a complaint with the Washington State Attorneys General Office, the FTC, the FCC, and the United States Attorney.  Whomever these [***] [***] are that refer themselves as RMS and Patricia from RMS need to be investigated, prosecuted, and (if had my way) taught a lesson they will remember forever. Know what I mean?  Yeah!

    Fools Rush In
I received a call from this number last night and pretty well figured it was from RMS. The call itself was an automated dial that asked for me by name, yet had me on hold, waiting for their rep to pick up and speak to me. I WANTED to speak to them, as they've given the run-around previously. After holding for about 5-10 minutes, I was told they could not answer and I needed to call this number back (never revealing who the call originated from). I Googled the number and found this message board.

They're a huge scam and I've been leary ever since I first heard from them.  Why? I received a letter from them about a supposed debt from my previous health insurance company. The debt supposedly was incurred 3 years prior to receiving their collection letter. Their letter was the FIRST TIME I had ever heard of any such "debt." I have called the insurance company 3 different times and after exhaustive research, each customer service rep cannot find any such debt ever existed. Besides, I always had a credit card on file and all orders from their mail-order pharmacy were automatically processed to that card.

Per the detailed instructions on the back of the collection letter, I provided written notice to RMS disputing the debt and requesting written information from the creditor regrading the debt. I never received the documentation. Then RMS called me recently and the rep said, "Oh, we talked to (the insurance company) and they said sometimes that happens," (regarding not getting any notices from the creditor) "but you owe the debt. Are you prepared to pay that now over the phone?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! I'm so stupid that I'm going to take his WORD and pay the debt over the phone by giving him access to my finances??? I don't think so. BRING IT ON, RMS. YOU'RE IDIOTS.

I called back just because I was too curious.  The phone was answered "hello?", no business name given, just "hello".  I said someone called me from this number and I was returning the call.  The woman on the other end asked from my claim number.  I told her I didn't have any claim number.  She asked for my name, phone # and address.  I gave her my name and phone number but said I wouldn't give her my address as I had no idea who she was.  She replied that she was a debt collector and was trying to collect a debt of $27.61 from my insurance company "Travelers".  Travelers is indeed my insurance company and has been for over 10 years.  I know of no debt owed to them.  I told her I would contact Travelers directly and discuss the matter with them and hung up.

I have nothing from Travelers (except my monthly bills which are always paid on time.)   No idea what this $27.61 could be.   Also, I wouldn't expect a reputable company such as Travelers would hire such an unprofessional collection agency.

I dealt with a collection agency many years ago.  First you get notices in the mail on a REAL company's letterhead.  Then the person who sent the letter calls you.  It was a debt I knew I owed and was disputing.

Long story short, please beware, people.  If you have a debt that works its way all the way to a debt collector, you will KNOW you have a debt!   Do Not Give Out Your Personal Info To Anyone!

I received the exact message of this person, word by word.  I called the number back, as I was angry because I am not behind in any payments, whatsoever.  When I called them back, The computer wanted me to enter an extension number.  No extension number was left with the message, only 888-545-4170.  I even entered 0 for the operator and the recording said that it was an invalid extension.

This is from the Federal Trade Commission website:

How can I stop a debt collector from contacting me?

If a collector contacts you about a debt, you may want to talk to them at least once to see if you can resolve the matter – even if you don’t think you owe the debt, can’t repay it immediately, or think that the collector is contacting you by mistake. If you decide after contacting the debt collector that you don’t want the collector to contact you again, tell the collector – in writing – to stop contacting you. Here’s how to do that:

Make a copy of your letter. Send the original by certified mail, and pay for a “return receipt” so you’ll be able to document what the collector received. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again, with two exceptions: a collector can contact you to tell you there will be no further contact or to let you know that they or the creditor intend to take a specific action, like filing a lawsuit. Sending such a letter to a debt collector you owe money to does not get rid of the debt, but it should stop the contact. The creditor or the debt collector still can sue you to collect the debt.

I have also received several messages from these people. I have no outstanding late or delinquent debts that I am aware of. I have made attempts to return their call, but so far I have been unable to connect with anyone. I always get a busy signal. At no point during the messages left do they ever mention my or anyone's name (except the name of the caller). The message is exactly as follows:

"This is a message for... . If you are...., then please continue to listen to this message. By continuing to listen to this message, you acknowledge that you are Mr or Mrs .... . You should not listen to this message in the presence of other people so they can hear it, as it contains personal or private information. There will now be a 3 second pause in this message to allow you to listen to this message in private. [3 sec pause with music]. This is Patricia, from RMS. Please  call me back at 888-545-4170. This is an attempt to collect a debt, and any information obtained will be used for that purpose. Again, contact me at 888-545-4170 to discuss this important but personal business matter.Thank you."

It sounds like a scam, but I am not sure. There is indeed such a debt collection agency as RMS, but I am not sure if they are behind this.

I don't think that's the collection agency we are dealing with. Just happens to have the same initials -- which they probably stole to use.

My parents have been gettting these calls for months (and I haven't lived at home since 1985).  I finally called them at 855-222-5483 and a man answered. I asked for Patricia and he said that is just an automated name they use and there is no Patricia (a code word. no biggie). Then I said "you've been calling me saying I have a debt" he said "Yes we are a collection agency. What number were we calling?" I said "I'm not giving you that number, but I'll give you my name." I gave him my name and he couldn't find anything. He again wanted the phone number. I didn't give it. So he rudely said good bye.  How in God's Name can they call 3, 4, 5 times a week and not have a record of me?  Do not give out any info to them re: address, ss#, account #s. From what I can tell here they SAY they are working for an insurance company (Travelers, United HealthCare, etc) just to sound legit.  Idiots. (I'm in the white pages in the same city I've lived in for 55 years. If they really wanted to reach me, and if they were legitimate, they would look up my name in the phone book. Such a scam.) In Minnesota "Collectors cannot tell others that you owe a debt." From the Attorney General's office. If you have a lawyer, they can only contact the lawyer, not you.

If the debt is 7 years old you do not have to pay it period, and you can not be sued for it period.
The credit reporting agency has to remove the bill from credit report except tax liens-it's 10 years
