report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment[/b]
Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question. As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes. The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question. Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else. So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you. Let the FTC sort it out.
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand. - Unreal| 1 replyOriginal message came from a process server named Heather and she left a number. So I Called the number and the lady said I was being charged with fraud and had a writ of garnishment pending. She said she is representing me in arbitration and that she was able to cancel it. She also said she had the whole file on my fraud/ debt and they ran a back ground check on me. When asked to provide me a case number or file number she wasn't able too and wanted to transfer me to the billing department to finalize a payment arangement. She got nasty when I insisted for validation of debt and a case number and insisted that she is representing me through ARS Arbitrations and to accept the settlement payment plan. I had an account with who she was trying to reference and it was in good standing and closed but she insisted it wasn't. The only reason I kept on with them is because of a pending divorce and the weird stuff the ex-wife did.
Just hang up the phone and block the number.- Caller: ARS Arbitration

- Evy replies to Confused?!?!I got that exact message. Glad to see it has already been reported and is a scam. Leading up to the call today from 541-275-8276 telling me to call the 888 number, I have been receiving numerous calls from a "Private Number" which I do not answer. So annoying.
- Annoyed| 2 repliesYesterday recieved a call from heather lockwood at a 616-208-1338 about coming to my job to serve me. I don't owe anyone anything so I blocked her. Then today I got a call from 1844-301-5014 lisa hoffman mecosta county (never even heard of it) with the same message about coming to serve me at work etc. Left a number of 188-709-6105 as a contact on the summons. It's harassment from someone named Heather Lockwood saying she is coming to my home & place of business to serve me a summons . EVERYONE MUST REPORT THIS SO IT WILL BE STOPPED.- Caller: Heather Lockwood
- BluSk1esWe have had the same experience as the other commenters. We called back and spoke with Cheryl Courtland and offered to meet her at the local sheriff's office or the county jail to facilitate the process, but they hang up on us. If you received this call please contact the FDIC.

- VoRoberta called from this number stating she's been trying to serve me and I needed to call and verify my addresses with her.
- Caller: Roberta no company known
- DeniseReceive the same message from Heather Lockwood. First off if this was legal she would state whiChat company she has been retained by. Secondly, no one calls to say they are serving you. They just show up. Next, you don't need 2 forms of ID nor a witness. They get by with leaving more than one message a day because they say nothing about a debt that is owed. Harassment and scam! Stop these people please before somebody falls for it. She also calls from a local number now and leaves the 888 number as a call back. Shame on her!

Ya nice try bozo's. I'm not your mark today. If your being served papers first off your not calling the person to tell them. Secondly I owe no one past debts. I hope they are found and jailed for this harassment.- Caller: ??

- HeidiIf you listen to the message (about a legal notice)and then hold for a minute when it is finished it will be picked up and answered. I could hear lots of people in the background and he was very unprofessional not even giving his name. He had my phone number and I didn't give my name. When I questioned him about "who" he was trying to reach at this number he was rattled and then ended up telling me it was just a wrong number.

- CoreyCalled them back and they said I owed $896.00 from a credit card from 2013 but they would be willing to settle for $500.00. I called the credit card company to verify and they had no record of me ever applying. This is a scam to get scare people into sending money to settle a debt that does not exist.
- Natalia replies to AnnoyedI got the same message from Heather Lockwood!! I called back and they couldn't give me detailed info.
- BrendaHow are they getting my information from old accounts that are closed and that I don't owe anything to?

- RenaeSame exact experience. Papers will be served at my home or job. If they have to serve at my job, I must present 2 forms of ID and get the supervisors signature. I call the # back and a guy answered. When I explained that I had just gotten a call from the #, he said with attitude, "This is ARS and I don't make the calls. However, I am tired, it's been a long day, and what is your # ?" I replied, "Well get some F**KN sleep and I hung up."
