We have not been able to do so and at this point I need you to call our legal department and set up something as soon as possible. This is a legal matter it's very time sensitive that I call back I sure has no choice but to have this filed with you listed as defaulted. So it is important that we hear from you right away. Getting calls from this number or blocked! Threatening me! I have the same story as many of you...

Same story- legal documents and they needed to verify address to deliver them. 877-596-0257 was the number they gave to call back. I called to see what & who they were & what legal documents  They tried to verify me by my last 4 social digits. I refused to verify my identity and so he wouldn’t tell me more than that I had a civil suit filed against me. He wouldn’t tell me where their office was located. So I said this seems suspicious and he told me good luck when I get served. 👌🏼

They called stating that they had legal paperwork to deliver and wanted to know if someone was going to be available for the delivery.

I got a call it came up private number.and left a message and said about legal documents.

There are no legal documents and no one has filed any lawsuit against you.  This is a debt scamming operation where they try to scare money out of you by use of threats and non-existent legal papers, processes and court appearances.  Ignore and block the calls.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question.  As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes.  The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question.  Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else.  So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you.  Let the FTC sort it out.

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking).   the only thing they understand.

I got a voice message from these people they at first said the wrong name. Called with no caller ID. claimed to be Johnson& Smith Associates. Very suspicious with no caller ID.

Left a voice mail claiming they had some legal paperwork to deliver.

Got the second call today same as many others. They want me to call 855-500-9597. I am not going to call.  If they are legitimate they will send a letter.

Received 1st call from restricted number 2nd call I mistakenly answered. Emailed paperwork and received paperwork via USPS today.
I take any threat to my credit seriously and am researching. I'm glad others have posted here.
855-500-9597 is the number I've received calls from. Living in Texas I know there isn't a warning prior to being served but the details this guy had makes me leary.

They actually mailed you paperwork?! Does it detail the debt they claim you owe? If so, do you recognize the debt? Also, what is the legal name and address on the letter/envelope?

Normally when someone calls with threats, its just a scammer out to extort some money, but since you said they actually email AND mailed you those papers, you could really help clear things up for those here with the details of who this company really is.
They should have a return address on their envelope and stated in the letter. Could you post what they printed ?

I have received the same voicemail. It is a scam.

Just got this call. [***] said his name was Kevin Redden, of Johnson Smith and Assocs. That alone was suspicious! JOHNSON SMITH! TOO COMMON!  He used my Sister-in-law's name (which you can get from one of those identity search sites that list relatives) and said they had been trying to reach me. Said unless I called by Tuesday, they'd have no choice but to file for debt collection these "legal papers." Their number was 856.500.9697. That's the number he left on my voicemail. Sounded like he was reading a script.  Going to post on FB.

Yes this is a scam. Don't believe the posts that say it's legit.  They no doubt work for that disgusting low life company that's calling.   The actual number may be from Morocco.  I have no debt and good credit.  I know for sure that no one in the history of serving papers would announce they are coming to serve you.Unless of course they are imbeciles.    REDICULOUS!

Just got a vm from a Laura, secretary at Johnson Smith & Associates telling me I was listed as an emergency contact and that I should call back asap about someone I don't know or have ever known.... Lucky I work for a Law Firm so know this is a scam.
