I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

They can't be closed down.  They operate out of thousands of call centers throughout India and Pakistan.  Local governments don't do anything.  Call blocker might be of some help.

Thank you for the info. I have a 5 year opt out on my phone, I don't get it. So very tired of it. Received calls from this number a couple of times but didn't leave msg. Today I get the same IRS law suite msg. I wish their punishment was vocal cords removed.

I got the same call with a recorded message to call 915-595-6462 to discuss my pending law suite with the IRS. I have been told that the IRS will never call you they just send letters so I assume it is a scam. I chose to wait for their letter.

I received at call on my cell phone from this number. I did not answer it b/c I didn't know who it was (New York area on caller ID). The voicemail was an automated recording telling me the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me and to call the number back as soon as possible. Already I was skeptical b/c I had received nothing in writing, but I called it back anyway. A very rude foreign man answered and asked for my phone number. He said his name was Michael Lee and gave me his "badge number," FTA 4908. I said, "Please spell your name for me." He goes, "It's Michael, M-I-C-H-E-A-L." And I'm thinking, "Ok, he spelled 'Michael' wrong....He then said, "FTA stands for 'FEDERAL TAX AGENT,' just so you know."

He then went on to tell me that I had been audited for tax years 2008 to 2013 and that "the numbers don't match up." I asked why I hadn't received any notice in writing about this issue and he said, "You did, we sent letters in November and December." I said, "What address do you have on file?" He gave me some bogus address that I had never heard of in my life and clearly had never lived at. I told him I have never in my life been a resident of that address and that I was going to do some research and pursue this on my own. Then, he said, "Well GO F&@% YOURSELF THEN!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....HA.

Do not call me again.

I got a call from 19145956462 saying this is the IRS and we are filing a lawsuit against you. It said to call back but when I did there was no answer. I thought is a scam as the IRS would send a letter not call.

Thank you for this information. I received the call today and reported it online as suggested.

Like so many others, I received this call today with a voice message that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me. Coincidentally, I received a call just yesterday from someone claiming to represent a charitable organization (I believe it was for epilepsy) asking for a donation. I'm on the Do Not Call list and declined to give money, asking that they remove my name from their list. Not sure if these phone scammers were related, but be careful if you also receive calls from other fundraising organizations purporting to act on behalf of reputable groups. If you wish to donate, research the official organization website to ensure your contribution is going to the intended cause and not some douche scammer with no morals or integrity.

I was also called and was told that a lawsuit was being filed against me.  Does the IRS know about it?

Well, someSCAMING  clowns called me today[robo call]saying that I was being sued by the IRS.Said that it was urgent that I call them back. I think that I will and see what these idiots have to say. I may even give them some FALSE information and see what they do with it.I most definitely did not fall off the turnip truck yesterday. I really do like to play with these idiots and see just how far I can go with them. You know jerk their chain and see what falls off.
