- danny| 2 repliesI received a similar call at my parents house... the strange thing about that is that I don't use my parent's phone number for anything. I was wondering why in the world anyone would file a complaint about me. I will wait and see what happens because it's too odd that anyone would even call my parents house to begin with. Further, the fact that I called and got a "call back during business hours" message was bothersome.
My next step is to call my phone service provider and make sure this isn't one of those calls that are directed to some other country and I end up paying some huge fee for the call!- Caller: United Arbitration Process Services
- angry! replies to danny| 1 replyI got the same call. Stated I owed sears $186.09 since 2006. That I never paid anything on the revolving account and this amount included interest and collection costs. I asked what was the original line of credit and how many revolving lines of credit started under $300. I called Sears of course and they had no record of me. I don't do revolving credit and only owe for my house and car loan. I pay cash for everything. When I called this company back to get the account number for Sears to investigate, the person gave me different year and amount now since 2004 for $574.94. They refused to provide an account number for Sears or anything in writing. Sears is not affliated with this agency and their lines of credit are financed through Citibank. I'm not sure how they got my information or my mother's info unless it was obtained when I financed my car loan because I used her as a personal reference.
- anonymous replies to angry!THIS MAY BE A SCAM. Scammers are using bought/hacked loan application data to extort payments for fictitious debts from victims and victims' families and friends.

The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, just google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"
Report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate. - DeeThese fools called my step-grandmother and left a message on her machine for me stating that I was named as a defendant in a lawsuit. This tipped me off as a scam because my step-grandmother and I have never had the same last name and she has never been a co-signer on any debt I may have. I attempted to call back a few times and tried every option but I got either a message telling me to call back during normal business hours or a message telling me to leave a voicemail. I know enough about the legal system to know that they have to either serve me with papers or contact me via certified mail for small claims court; neither of which has happened. I will be reporting this to the appropriate authorities tomorrow.

- The Second Collector| 3 repliesIts pretty funny how you guys response to situations pertaining such rare information.. such as a restraining order. A restraining order could be release under different occasion when involving an legal matter. Now.. Where does the legal matter come into play?? Broken agreements, business tides, personal situations just to name a few.. All of these can be accommodated with an restraining order.(Words of advice.. I would take this situation serious). Secondly. If someone has my number and several of my family members number just to reach me. I would want to find out whose giving out vital information such as that and why. How can you get this situation resolved should be your next question.. No matter what way you want to approach it but I do and would recommend you approach it.

- MelanieMy mom called me this morning saying that someone called saying the very same thing. An injunction had been filed and that I should forward this info to my attorney... something about restraining orders...blah blah blah... No real business conducts this way and also the person on the phone did not sound like the most professional. My mom was worried but I assured her it was a scam because I know I haven't done anything to anyone. These ppl need to get a freaking life. Although the message was the same as most of the ones listed in this post, the call back number was an 813 area code.

- DianaI received this same call last night and when I tried to call it back it told me to call back at normal business hours as well. I called within 5 minutes of the left message and got a message. I think with everyone getting this call with in the last few weeks that it has to be a scam!! How could this many people have the same issue!! My caller was David Winters and when he started the message he was laughing and could barely get the number out. I also didn't think that personal and private issues could be left on a machine.

- DaleThanks to all of you for posting your interaction with this company. I received a call from a Jimmy Stewart (most have been the deceased actor) stating the same as everyone else, except this had to do with some Payday Loan place and a Mastercard back in 2008. Never had a Payday Loan. He said they mailed me numerous letters (as a former Postmaster I knew that was a lie). Jimmy was argumentative and kept pushing for a settlement or subpeona. When I kept pressing he said they would issue a subpeona since I wouldn't settle over the phone. Thank goodness for all of you and 800Notes. I was really stressed out, until I read all the comments.

- Diana| 1 replyI must say that I believed this due to speaking with a laywer and now am unable to contact this company. They put the info for my check through my account wrong and now I am going to have to fight the bank to get my money back!

- DianaJust wanted to update that this is a scam. This company did put my payment through and has never called back. The info on the check was wrong as well as the check number. They didn't use the one provided and I am still waiting for a phone call back... They still don't answer and it goes directly to voice mail.
I suggest that if they do call you, you have a lawyer deal with them and not yourself directly. That is the route I am going to be taking with this company from now on.- Caller: United Abritration Process Services

- PatrickYeah, so last night my girlfriend had a message on her answering machine (which I listened to also), stating that she had had a restraining order placed against her, and that she would have to call back this (non-800) number within 24 hours to avoid "further legal action." What? I know, right? So that night, my poor girlfriend gets almost no sleep, and anxiously calls this number back in the morning. Here's what transpired: This "rep" tells her she has an outstanding debt from a MasterCard from HSBC of about $2,600 - what happened to the alleged "restraining order?" Here's the kicker - check this out:
1) He claims he is a rep for the collection agency.
2) He refuses to give us the account number.
3) The name on the account is my girlfriend's original, Cambodian name, which she changed 19 freakin' years ago, when she acquired US citizenship.
4) He states HSBC cannot be reached to discuss the issue [false, as I did call them, and they have no record of my GF's name or SS# recorded in their system; also, they told me ALL of their collection agencies have 1-800 numbers, NOT (919) N. Carolina numbers!!!]
5) Lastly, and not to be racist, but the guy had a 'black voice,' but when I asked his name, he said "Alex Porter" - really? How many black gentlemen have the name of 'Alex Porter?'
Ha! Total BS! THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT LET THEM GET THE BEST OF YOU! :)- Caller: United Arbitration Process Services
- KrisThank you to everyone who has reported this, you have put my mind at ease. I got a call from 919-408-7049 a woman who said her name was Lisa Miller left a message on my cell phone and on my father's phone saying I had a court case against me and a restraining order and that me or my lawyer had to respond within 24-48 hours. I have no idea how anyone got my father's phone number, I have never used that number for anything. I was in tears wondering what was going on and how I could possibly have someone putting a restraining order against me when I have done nothing wrong. Then I searched th phone number and found this page. Now that the fear has passed, the logical part of my brain has kicked in. Why would someone leave me a message about a restraining order, restraining orders have to be served to you and how are you supposed to stay away from who ever has filed the restraining order when you have no idea who filed it. I have done nothing that would result in a court case or a restraining order. This is a scam.

- Cheryl replies to The Second CollectorTo the "COLLECTORS" posting on this forum - REGARDLESS if we have debts - we still have the right to question who these people are, what are they calling for, request the account numbers they are referencing for our own research - we have the RIGHT to inquire who and why people are calling extened familes and we need to be careful just giving out information. The amount of our debts has nothing to do with us wanting to be careful. This nation revolves on credit and the majority of people acquire debt - with that aside - we still have to protect ourselves and this "United Arbitration" sounds like an unethical place of business and anyone who works for them will have carma visit them. I work in collections myself and would never go about collecting in this manner.
- Amber| 1 replyI got the same phone call, and was hesitant to call back. I did end up calling back and recorded the conversation for my lawyer. It just so happens this company is a mediator. Although legally they are not allowed to say some of the things they are saying it is a real company. Look it up they are a mediator between people and places. The only problem with my case they are saying that I owe something that was back many years ago when I was 16. Problem I find with that is I did not have any credit at 16 and to get the type of account that they are indicating I owe you would have to be 18. Basically it is a debt collector for the company in which you owe. Definitely call and resolve. Dont hold back and not call. Just give them the case number and they will tell you.
