I just got a 999-999-9999 call on my cell phone and it was my HR department at work calling from the home office in Chicago.  Don't know why it came up as 999-999-9999.

My boyfriend and I share the same verizon account.  On the bill there were several of these 999-999-9999 calls.  We figured out what happened.  Several times we talk to each other on the road. Often we get disconnected.  One of us usually calls the other back.  However, occasionally, we both call each other back at the same time. One or the other of us then usually beeps over...seeing the caller ID....and use call waiting.  When this happens, one of us does not get disconnected....so whoever is still technically "on the line", is getting charged minutes with the 999-999-9999 number since the phone cannot seem to register it any other way.  Since it is just us talking to one another...yet there is still one of us hanging on the other line unknowlingly...the other call is still being registered but then shows up as that 999-999-9999 call.  We have closely scrutinized the pattern and this is indeed when it happens.

My phone rang with the numbe 1-999-999-9999, but didn't answer in fear of being scammed or something.  Recently changed to TMobile and never got a call like that when I was with AT&T.
