several calls from 1-999-999-9999 does not leave voice mail. Times picked up no one is there

I've had 3 or 4 calls in the last two weeks. I called T-Mobile, my cell phone service, and asked for information about the number. The help person said she had never heard of it. I asked her to investigate for me. She has not called back.

Call at 8p at night while I am trying to spend time with my family!!

Multiple calls from this number usually during the day. No message and I don't think it is a random fax machine as I don't hear a bunch of "beeps."
An internet search located several businesses in different states with this number.

Received multiple calls from ID:999.999.9999 on October 28th, 2007 starting at noon and continued up to 6:31pm, I called back from the missed call log and heard recorded music, hung up immediately and have not received another call.

999-999-9999 ??? Probably collectors
If you have a security feature that all caller must be identified, such as "private", the caller simply types in 999-999-9999 when prompted, to get you to pick up
Also, they might type in one of your personal references numbers or your work number.

Called on November 7th at 2pm mountain time.  When I picked up the phone there was only a beep and then nothing.

Got 2 calls today from 999-999-9999.  Both times the phone only rang for a couple seconds and I never answered it.  Decided to Google the number and see if anyone else has been bothered.  I don't even have a Blockbuster card so I know it wasn't them.

i got call from 1-999-9999 I didnt pick up but it was really freaky cuz the #'s (000)000-000 and (999)999-999 don't even exist!!!

Ha ha, 999 is not a valid area code.  Prolly on the line at the time, but call-back (*69) said I got a call from 999-999-9999 on 11/19 at 8 o'something in the morning.

I just filled out a request for information from http://www.franchisegator.com/ and immediately received a phone call from 999-999-9999. After one ring, they hung up. Maybe they were testing the line to see if I had given them a real number. (shrugs)

Received call this morning 10:18 a.m. - no answer, no one there,  1st time i've ever seen this number

someone called me from the number 1-999-999-9999 in the middle of class and when i picked up no one answered

just got a call from 1-999-999-9999.
they hung up.
I called the number back and got something like:
"this 736-####, leave a message"

Just got a call 999-999-9999..I did answer, no one responds, and I can hear very faint music in the background...Don't have a clue who this number belongs to..

calls house all the time never leaves message and when we answer phone there is nothing there

I just got 3 calls from 999-999-9999 with unknown name one after another. I did not pick up just let answer machine pick up. I could hear it start talking before my answer machine so it must be an automated voice.  I have no clue who it is or why they are calling but I have now blocked the number and will not pick up.  I have no collections problems so if they are calling they have the wrong number.
Sounds like it could well be some type of scam.
