FTFTC. Waiting on them for help is frutile.  Too busy spending gross amounts of tax money to be bothered with actualling assisting the individual tax payers.
Concerned citizens need to pick out these garbage peddling numbers that are LOCAL TO THEIR calling areas or toll free, and have some great sport at returning the "favors".
The FTC contact number(888) 382-1222 (or your local & state politicians phone numbers) can be provided to scammers (by filling out scam prize drawings tickets and alike).
Unite & do your part.  When the people lead, the politicians will follow.
Things only get done if they are bothered.

Be wary if this number appears on your caller id.....1-866-899-1844....they will call and leave a voice mail telling you to call back regarding some type of loan you supposedly have with them. Come to find out someone who is trying to avoid them is giving out other peoples' telephone numbers...both landline and cell numbers. After 5 calls in two days I was forced to turn it over to my local police department as harrassment. Don't expect much to come out of it but maybe if this company knows the police are involved they will stop. Since we are all paying for the damn airtime on our cell phones I refuse to change my number just to make them stop.

1-800-669-6654 - Received a message stating that it was from Countrywide - the beginning of the message was cut off on my answering machine and due to the fact that we have had a loan with them in the past, I followed the prompts as directed and entered my husband's social and our area code.  A gentleman (with some sort of accent) then picked up the phone and kept saying "hello, hello". . . . "hello, hello" and then he hung up.  WHAT AN IDIOT I AM!  Hopefully nothing will come of this but in this day and time with identity theft, I have to admit, I'm worried!

The link to FTC's Online Complaint Form,  https://www.donotcall.gov/Complain/ComplainCheck.aspx does not work.

Click on it and you get a green and white screen saying "Sorry, we're having online difficulties."

What good is call trace?!   I get getting anonymous calls from a telemarketer who is asking for credit card information.  They block the caller ID and they hang up if I ask for the company name or phone number.  I am on the national and state Do Not Call Lists.  I can activate Call Trace through AT&T (at a cost to me of $7.99), though they will only release the phone information to a law enforcement agency.  The FTC, Texas Public Utilities Commission, and my local police department refuse to get involved so it is impossible to report them.  Any ideas?

Possibly the FTC is to blame. After all, if we include our phone numbers, then someone there has access to them. Now, I'm not saying that an employee of the gov. would ever do anything immoral, illegal or violate the privacy rights of citizens.

But when you do look at who's supposed to be "in charge" of the government, it may make you think about it.

I was considering signing up to the Do Not Call thingy, but sounds like it's a waste of time, these callers already have me so miffed wasting my time throughout the day that I don't want to give them anymore time, effort or energy, emotions etc.  I plan on being rude and answering every call everytime.......I currently have 6 numbers calling me throughout the day, I run an inhome daycare so it's very disrupting especially at nap time...seems like this is one of those things that drive us all crazy and will take way to much time to get anything done about...hmmm should I be a squeaky wheel??? pondering, more important things to burn energy on, no I'll just be miserable back to them, the most recent caller from Nevada seems to be returning to somewhere with a messed up answering machine, I'll call them randomly throughout the day all day everyday and give them a dose of their own medicine...squeak squeak.

    nobody cares
So you can sue if they continue to call you..big deal! Who has the cash to take them to court? Of course, you will also have to supple the dates, times etc they called and a 'recording' to back your claims.
