just called me and I could smell it on them...first the number was (526)572 36...what the hell..and said unknown caller..Got an indian woman after which she was untrained to be a phone operator. She used that I was a valued costumer and that I paid more than 100 dollar over the last year at wallmart..then she started to scream at me when I refused to give my credit card...
I asked for supervisor. The guy was like I am not trying to scam you!!! what the hell again....I shamed him
He was like the credit card is to charge one dollar that will eventually be credited back but we need that in order to ship the card!!! "ship a card" and only 1 dollar

I hope everybody is carful. don't give info on email or phone......

The same thing happened to me when I called Clairol's customer service.  The call was hacked into by a man with an Indian accent offering $100 gift card at Walmart or Target and it went on from there, exactly as you described. To make a long story short, I called the security department of my phone company and they were aware of the scam.  They said the hacking was not on my phone but on the customer service departments of unaware companies.  Nordstrom's was another company that was mentioned.  These companies need to be informed what is going on.

Yesterday I received a new ATM card and called the number to activate as instructed.  At this point I was offered a $100 gift card. The old adage "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't" was  running through my head, but then I was talking to my bank, or so I thought.   They knew my name and address, but asked for my phone number.  I refused to give it to them, but it seems they already had it anyway.  After questioning them and then asking for the supervisior, I did end up giving them a credit card that I rarely use. They told me I had to listen to a recording in which I would be offered 3 different purchases, and that I had to answer each of them affirmatively to get the confirmation number to activate the $100 gift card.  They assured me that those charges didn't apply, it was just a formality. I was becoming more and more uncomfortable, but I had already given the credit card numbrer.  I answered yes once, but declined to answer yes to the next offer, and hung up.  I then called the credit card company, and told them what had occurred and asked them to stop any charges. They called me back non stop for the next several hours trying to entice me to go back and answer the questions.  They even told me I didn't have to answer yes, it would be fine if I said okay. After many repeat phone calls, I said there was no way I would answer those questions affimatively, so they didn't need to call again. The girl got so angry, she told me to enjoy my monthly charges and hung up!  The $1 they put on my credit card did allow me to get the name of the company, which didn't match what they had told me.  What I would really like to know, is my bank involved or is this company somehow intercepting phone calls.  I seems in all the complaints, the victims were calling their bank, their phone company, even AARP.

Go back to the very first page of this thread, the second comment.  I get a similar "deal" as part of my credit card bill every month.  Its actually glued on the back of the payment envelope.  A $45 gift card but you have to join some buying club that costs $25/month.

I think the gift card people are working with your bank, but the bank may not know how obnoxious the gift card people are being.  Contact your bank and complain.  A carefully-worded letter explaining what the gift card people are doing may get your bank to reconsider their relationship with the gift card company.

I just received a call from this company claiming they wanted to give me a free $100 Wal-Mart gift card, a free gas card, and a $50 card to use on various internet websites.  This was all just b/c I had completed an online survey.  I have been tricked by this online crap before, so I said I wasn’t interested.  The woman on the line, who seemed to be American, insisted there was no catch and all she needed to send my gift was 2 minutes to walk me through their online website. This would seem harmless, but I was concerned this may be some kind of virus or something giving them access to my computer and/or my information.  I again said “not interested” but  w/ persistence from the telemarketer, I let her give me the website.  But rather than pull it up, I googled their safety. This is one of the results that came up.  I told her their company was a scam and I was not interested!!!  Despite her trying to assure me that the info I was reading was not true, I told her she was full of crap and these companies are all the same!  She quickly thanked me for my time and hung up. So thank you, thank you, thank you to all the people who take the time to post Ur experiences so other people may ovoid the same misfortune!  And I encourage everyone to ALWAYS check things out and be very skeptical before trusting people. Even if it seems harmless, you never know what new ways people are coming up with to steal from you!  My husband always tells me; NEVER participate in anything where THEY call YOU!

you have to cancel the card. its the only way the charges stop. you wont get a gift card or anything they promise or offer. the only thing you will get is the charges they put on your card.

Now these scammers have a 3604606284 number to add to the list.  They called me and said i was chosen for a free gift card for 100 dollars to walmart and all I needed to do was give him my cc number for the 2.99 delivery charge that wouldnt be charged until delivery. I asked how did i manage to be selected for that. I was told I was a good customer of walmart and a shopingclub or something. Either way I told the guy I dont shop at walmart ever because I dont have one near me, and Im not part of any shopingclub so try your b.s scam somewhere else and hung up. 2 days later I get another call from the same number with what sounded like the same guy with the same lame ass script. I mean how stupid do they think a person can be. So I figured I would have some fun this time. I told the guy ok it sounds too good to pass up. I gave him the number to a visa gift card with $1.25 left on it. He repeated the number 4 times then told me he was with usa benefits and even gave me a ext. number and a employee number then said his name was james brown  (Real original jackhole), then he sent the call to verification. So now im talking to a new guy. I figured id be difficult at this point. I told the guy I changed my mind. Then the guy says you cant your card has already been proccessed and the only way to end the subscription is to complete the verification. I told him he was full of sh*t and  a few other words. He then told me that if I didnt stop he would hang up and I would be stuck with the charges. I told the guy to go f himself and he didnt hang up. I said this cant be legal, His comment was that I gave him my cc number willingly. Then I said " but im not aggreeing to these terms and thats why you need the verification recording to make it legal. He kept telling me that I was going to  be charged 19.99 a month unless I did the verification. I then replied " so I cant end the subscription until I do the verification but you need the verification to bill me". He said yes thats right. After that remark I called him a moron and told him that makes no sense. your gonna charge me with or without the verification and I cant get out of it. I told him id cancel the card. (KEEP IN MIND HE STILL THINKS IM USING MY CREDIT CARD AND DOESNT KNOW I GAVE HIM AN OLD VISA GIFT CARD NUMBER) His reply was that it doesnt matter. I will still continue to be charged. I replied that if a c.c is cancelled it would be impossible for him to continue billing. After that I was told I had one more chance to verify or he would hang up and there was nothing I could do to stop the charges. I told him he was a no talent [***] clown then told him he could have the the cc i gave him was visa gift card with 1.25 on it. I told him congrats and that he deserves it because thats about all he was worth. He got pissed yelled a few things and hung up. Moral of the story do NOT give out any info over the phone. If the deal sounds to good to be true thats because it is. If these people contact you. do not listen to one word of what they say about anything it is all a lie and empty threats. if you do fall for it shut down your card right a way and ask for a new card. end of problem. but anyway i had some fun and wasted about 45 min of the guys time, got under his skin for $1.25.,money well spent on entertainment.

I can't believe I was dumb enough to fall for this OkeyDoke.  Received the same call telling me I won a $100 WalMart Gift card.  They needed my card number to charge a $1 service fee. A couple of weeks later, NO Walmart card ever received but my card was charged for $59.90 from a CORE VISION GROUP, PINELLAS PARK FLORIDA. I Googled the company and found all this information. When I called the company, they already had my name and info without me giving them my information.  A man with a heavy Indian accent assured me that the money would be charged back to my card within 5 -7 business days. I am currently waiting to see if I actually get my refund but I hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else.  I called the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION (FTC) at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357) and filed a complaint on the company.  I was very angry that I fell for this scam, but at the time I really needed that WalMart card and figured that a scam couldn't happen to me. DON'T FALL FOR IT!!! It's never a good idea to give your private information out over the telephone for any kind of "winning" offer.

Waka or whatever that business is seems like other businesses that are out there now. Most are really going to come close to you and get you to sign up or answer a survey or buy something. Check your receipts, people. I do.
