    I got the same call today.. They used a different number, 347-614-1048, targeting victims in NY. Just don't do it.. When anyone calls YOU to give you anything free, hang up!! If they give you a website, google it!!
    I got a call on my house phone about a month ago from someone claiming to be from my ISP, saying that they've noticed some slowness with my internet connection [LIE] They then wanted me to download a program where they would be able to access my desktop remotely.. Just hang up people!!

    My wife just got a call from a "Walmart employee" saying she could receive a hotel card and visa card for $500
    And all she had to pay was $99. He said he got her info when she used her card at Walmart...
    When she asked to speak to a supervisor... he hung up...

    They keep calling me too. One lady that I talked to insisted that this was a good deal, because all I had to do was to pay for the postage to get a gift card that I can use anywhere.
    I don't have any credit card, so I asked her to go ahead and charge my gift card for the postage and send me the card with remaining balance.
    She said she can't, then suggested borrowing someone else's card....
    So I asked her to borrow me her card, and she said she can't.
    I knew it was a scam and I was just so mad at people who are trying to cheat us out of our hard earned money...
    I just wasted little of their time, I am sure they will keep doing this to everyone.
    Be careful.

    "There has been a sudden increase in scam text messages referring people to a site where they can "claim a Walmart Gift Card" by entering certain private personal information. These attacks that take place through SMS text message technologies to personal mobile phones are scams and are in no way sponsored by or affiliated with Walmart. This type of scam has come to be known as "Smishing" because of the use of SMS text technology. Similar to the way scam web sites send "Phishing" emails, scam artists have been sending text messages offering free Walmart gift cards to consumers in exchange for entering information on a mobile website. The most popular website being used recently is called "walmartgift.mobi". This site is not owned, operated by, or affiliated with Walmart. Any site can be used for this scam and users are often asked for private personal information including credit card numbers or social security numbers. Providing this type of information is very likely to lead to identity theft or credit card fraud.

    These text messages and the sites being used are not from Walmart and Walmart is not associated with parties promoting this activity. Walmart will never initiate a text message where we ask for sensitive personal data like credit card information or social security numbers. Learn how to report text message SPAM."

    "A fraudulent e-mail encouraging consumers to "Click Here to Claim Your $1,000 Walmart Gift Card!" has been making the rounds the last few days. This communication is not from Walmart.

    Walmart does not offer $1,000 gift cards for completing surveys or merely clicking on a link.

    In addition, Walmart will never ask you to e-mail personal information such as:

       * Passwords
       * Social security numbers
       * Bank account details
       * Credit card numbers
       * Other financial information.

    Walmart will never make unsolicited phone calls asking for such information."

    "Walmart Gift Card
    Claim:   Walmart is distributing free $100 or $1,000 gift cards to users who click an online link.

        FALSE"

    "Origins:   In mid-November 2011, a survey scam purporting to offer free $100 Walmart gift cards to those who followed particular links then did as told once there spread via e-mail and Facebook.

    ....

    In March 2012 another "free Walmart gift card" scam appeared, that one spread by e-mail or cell phone text message which promised $1,000 Walmart gift cards to recipients.

    It too was a fraud. Walmart posted a security alert on its web site alerting consumers that:

    Still think these junk text scams are real? I sure as hell don't ... and never did!!!
    1. If I didn't enter anything from Walmart (and they don't do this sort of thing to begin with), it's simple really! I won't win something out of the blue like that! Period!!!
    2. The links that usually accompany these scam text aren't anything like Walmart [walmart.om (except for fraudulantly including Walmart name in it somehow)!
    3. The email is either gmail or something not connected to Walmart (which is @walmart.com)
    3. Putting 1, 2 and 3 (above) together tells me quite clearly that it's a bs scam and to just delete the junk text!!!

    If you gave the scammer your bank account number or credit card number call your bank.  They might be able to reverse the scam charge.  And they can keep the scammer from taking even more money from you.

    He also called me but fortunately I did not give him my card info, but as I was a new comer to USA, I gave him my address because I did  not know about such fraud here!! i am wondering whether anything bad would happen to me or not. Did you finally receive your reward card?

    Evelyn Smith did not get a reward card. No one got a reward card.

    If you gave them your street address you'll get more junk mail. If you gave them your email address you'll get more spam email. But thats all that will happen. If you didn't give them your bank account number or credit card number your money is safe.

    "Origins:   In mid-November 2011, a survey scam purporting to offer free $100 Walmart gift cards to those who followed particular links then did as told once there spread via e-mail and Facebook.

    Those links led to web pages (which were not operated or sponsored by Walmart) that asked the unwary to click what appeared to be Facebook "share" buttons and post comments to the scammer's site (which was really a ruse to dupe users into spreading the scam by sharing it with all of their Facebook friends). Those who followed such instructions were then led into a set of pages prompting them to input a fair amount of personal information (including name, age, address, and phone numbers), complete a lengthy series of surveys, and finally sign up (and commit to paying) for at least two "Reward Offers" (e.g., Netflix subscriptions, credit report monitoring services, prepaid credit cards):

    "In March 2012 another "free Walmart gift card" scam appeared, that one spread by e-mail or cell phone text message which promised $1,000 Walmart gift cards to recipients.

    On previous occasions Walmart has addressed others scams of similar nature, including other gift card sponsor offer scams, saying of them:

    'Walmart does not solicit online for individuals to complete online surveys for gift cards, nor do we send unsolicited emails asking individuals to participate in our surveys.'

    Walmart does not endorse and is not affiliated with any "sponsor offer" related program or survey. Walmart will never send you e-mails or surveys that are contingent on your making purchases, subscriptions, or fulfilling other financial requirements. Drawings for the receipt survey occur four times a year. Winners of the register receipt gift card are notified by certified mail, never via email.' "
