Do not answer the call from 404-410-3535. They are checking to see if your number is legit.

I just received a call today with a 404 area code.  I missed the call but whoever it was left a voicemail. When I listened to it the person was a male and he sounded like he was black. I could not understand most of what he said..but I did hear him say my last name.  I have no clue who it is or what they want..but if they call back..I am not answering it.  I pray it isn't some scam.

I just received a 404 area code call claiming to be the IRS and that they had started a law suit against me.  My first reaction was "what for?"  Like you, I think it was fake.  If the IRS wants something, they will notify by mail.  I'm not calling back either.

Is it true Chris that 404 is a scam #? The person on the other line call me at the 404# saying the government gave me 7 grand to pay my bills I gave them my account which is stupid of me after they say I have to call this number 315-951-0156 so they can deposit the 7grand. Should I call that number back? Please help.

Good grief .... An entire area code cannot be "a scam pound sign", or used exclusively by crooks. For your homework tonight please learn the phrase "advance fee fraud".

Of course not. Everyone knows that total strangers routinely hand out piles of money to people chosen at random who did absolutely nothing to apply or qualify for a grant.

It astounds me that people can use a search engine to find these threads but can't figure out how to put a simple search term such as "grant" or "grant scam" and find out what the real story is.  One of the first several web sites that comes up on a "grant" search is grants.gov, the government site.  Since these people claim to be from the government, that would be the obvious choice.  I guess people are simply blinded by the free money soon to be delivered by some magical entity sitting in a government office that somehow gleaned they need the money to pay their bills.
