your information is incorrect. 404-827-1500 is a general line for CNN. I work there so maybe you just typo' do the number?

Great! After texting my name and address to someone with a 404 area code in response to a Craigslist add I had replaced in selling a tractor what can I do to protect myself from identity theft? After sending the person my info I thought it strange that the tractor kept being referred to as "the item" in place of tractor. He is suppose to call me when he gets out of work to go over shipping it to him after I receive cashiers check. Should I be concerned? After all, I was suspicious enough to look up the number, which turned up Atlanta Georgia and also as a "TEXT NOW" app number. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

Did you look up that number on this website or the search engines to see if anyone else has complained about it? Still, scammers can get burner phones (no-contract cell phones) and the number won't already have a history. And how far are you from the 404 area code ?

    "Should I be concerned?"
Yes. Did he send you as much information as you sent him? If not, ask him for his identification, including his drivers' license number.
There is no need for him to be in a hurry to get this tractor. But scammers are always in a hurry because their schemes come apart the longer their targets take to investigate.

    "after I receive cashiers check"
It could be a counterfeit check, or a stolen blank check, filled out later, which would make the sending of it mail fraud, and of interest to the Postal Inspectors. Do not deposit it; ask your bank to verify its authenticity by contacting the alleged issuer. A legitimate buyer will have no problem with you taking time to do this.

I looked it up on reverse phone number lookup sites as well as an online search, which is what led me to this site. I haven't seen any other complaints on this number.
I live in Michigan. He said in a text that he would send a cashiers check to include the price I'm asking plus $50.00 and enough to cover the cost of the movers. Maybe I'm just being paranoid over being a TEXT NOW app.

Keep in mind the government will never call you if they have a problem with you.  They will send you a letter.

is the OP stupid? 404 is the area code for the majority of legitimate businesses AND residential in Georgia (specifically the Atlanta-metro area). To make an ignorant statement that all 404 numbers are scams is doing nothing but providing people with false information and making yourself look dumb.

It is a matter of the odds.  When calls come in from numbers in an area code that are not recognized, from unknown or blocked names, it is a reasonable assumption that the calls are not legit.  Therefore, the op's declaration of Shenanigans is founded on geometric logic.
I don't know anyone in Jamaica, so when those area codes show in my CID, and the name is "unavailable" or "unknown"I am about 99% confident the call is not something I want to pay attention to.  Not a thing against the legit businesses and people in Jamaica, it is a question of the odds.
The op is not stupid or biased.  If the op came off as a bit ticked off, I think that is an expression of understandable frustration.
